View Full Version : Stevie's Relationship With Mick Makes Me Mad

Not the fact that they were "in love" but the fact that Stevie ended it because she felt this love affair would kill the band. I think this is a Stevie cop-out. She always seemed to be avoiding love affairs and "family" because of her "career" in Fleetwood Mac and that's a load of crap. The reason Stevie had no lasting relationships and babies is because she was ON DRUGS. I hate her denial of this. I really do.

I don't understand why people would get worked up over this. The reasons Stevie didn't have lasting relationships are for her to know; private, personal matters. Besides, I'm glad she didn't end up with Twatwood.

Um...what?
I don't think it's just drugs. I think it runs deeper than that. People often become drug abusers because they feel it's a solution to a problem that already exists.
Who really knows why Stevie broke up with Mick. Maybe it was just that she liked him better as a friend but didn't want to tell him that, so she made it seem as if she was making this sacrifice for the band. Maybe it was because of the reason she states. Who knows? It was so long ago and they've both obviously moved past that and onto a great friendship.

I'm glad that you claim to know why she ended her relationships, but I do not..and don't think she would have any reason to lie. She has been quite honest about her drug use in the past...
Plenty of people have perfectly fine relationships on drugs, so I dont think it's ok to assume that is necessarily the reason the relationships ended...and really...who cares?

 Alllllllll righty then!

This thread is about Stevie saying she could not have a marriage and kids because it would hurt Fleetwood Mac. I say had she not been wrecked on drugs, she and Mick MAY have made it. She MAY have had Fleetwood Feet running around. Who cares?? I dunno!! I thought this was a DISCUSSION BOARD! Maybe I am mistaken!! :sorry: :wavey:

Have you ever thought about that maybe it was too hard for her to hide all the time, because it seems like you forget that Mick was still married and had two little children! Maybe that coud've been the reason!

Have you ever thought about that maybe it was too hard for her to hide all the time, because it seems like you forget that Mick was still married and had two little children! Maybe that coud've been the reason! Also, she said she did it because of Lindsey, because if he found out, *then* the band would be over.
But if anything, had the band not been there in the first place, both Lindsey and Stevie said they would have probably been together much longer than they were. I don't think any relationship lasts when you are in a situation like they were in.
So I don't get why you say it makes you mad. I think it's perfectly understandable. It was doomed to fail, so for the sake of the band, quit it while you can.

This relationship bugged me for awhile but not for the same reasons...mick being married was part of it....the fact that it was under lb's nose and all that, but as I learned more about FM it seems that they all kinda had relationships under each others noses. It was just part of living in the bubble that is\was FM. CM did that to john...SN was with some of Lb's associates and Mick....Lb seems to always have his girlfriends around under SN's nose. So that seems to be part of the culture they had going on. Sure, they were both messed up on cocaine, but I dont think that points to reason for the break up.
What gets me, and seems to not effect anyone else, ( as i have brought it up many times ) is that Mick went after Stevie's best friend and she ended up marrying the guy! Then he spills the beans about the whole thing in his book.
First of all, Sara broke a cardinal girlfriend rule...NEVER date or sleep with ur friends men past or present. ( at least thats a rule in my world)
Then Mick's kiss and tell.
As far as the reasons she broke up with him...who knows  I think since Mick went and told she had to come up with something to say and the "career thing" or "for my band", has alway been her rote answer regarding marriage and children.
In this case though I wonder if the reference to the band breaking up is "code" for LB would get pissed and leave the band
Personally I think Stevie has commitment issues and she used her career as an excuse, and thats cool with me. I mean there is no law that a women HAS to marry and have kids. Not that SN and Mick would ever have progressed to getting married..( okay yikes..shakes image from my mind   )
Though I think it is a regret for her not having children, I don't know that it is her her biggest regret. We all have regrets she is no diffrent. She made a choice and she gotta live with that, just like the rest of us.
It doesnt mean she moaning for children now, I think she is fine with her choice. Still...she would have been awesome as a mom its kinda sad, to me.

I have also wondered....how the heck Sara "fleetwood" could do that to her, and Mick who was suppose to love her? And if MF's book has any truth to it..if I remember it right...wasn't he with Sara behind Stevie's back? Or was Mick and Stevie done at this time?

ur welcome,
Thats how I remember it too...Mick and Sara were together prior to the break off of SN and Micks relationship...if that is the case we might have the reason for the break up right there.

"Well you always know when something's wrong with MY friend."
I have always felt that line was about Sara and Mick.

I would have to agree. Maybe Stevie does choose to simplify her reasons for breakups but so what? And the idea of Stevie and Mick makes me shudder anyway. Poor Lindsey.

Stevie is in denial of a lot of things. She sometimes uses her career as an excuse for why she doesn't have time, doesn't have a relationship, or this or that. There are definately deep issues there. Hey, we all have our issues.
However, Stevie has always kept very close ties with her family. And as such, fans are far more aware of her family then that of any other members of the band.
And the drug issue? Her fellow band members all had their fair share of drugs, yet have managed to have relatively stable, healthy relationships and families. Stevie has been drug-free for more than a decade now, yet no lasting significant other ( her family and friends collectively fill that role). That's clearly a lifestyle choice --one that has a lot of variables. But at this point in time I don't think drugs is one of them.

Really, who are we to judge?
Not to mention, even though it seems to be a standard 'excuse' of hers, I think there could definately be some validity to the 'not having family b/c of FM'. That's a lot to take on, a band lifestyle, touring, AND kids! I couldn't see myself in her shoes, being able to balance both.
Regardless of the reason, she's the one who has to live with it.
Besides, I jsut can't picture her with Mick in the long run anyway!

Stevie's past, her love life and her life/career decisions are her own private matters. One thing I do think is great is the fact that she's mentored so many of these younger singers. Maybe that's what she was meant to do - who could be a greater mentor to a young singer than Stevie? (Of course, I may be biased...)
And everyone definitely has their issues. You wouldn't have to wait 5 months to get an appointment with a psychiatrist if they didn't! :p

What about the fact that Mick was also a heavy drug user? It's not like Stevie was the only one with a severe drug problem. In fact, Mick was hooked on coke longer than Stevie, if I recall.
I thought Stevie beat herself up when she was with Mick because he was technically married at the time, with two kids, and she hated being the "other woman".

I, for one, do not believe in sweeping all the obviously unpleasant things about Stevie under the rug. She's talked about Mick quite a bit in interviews. I still think the relationship was drug-fueled. They had their coke glasses on when they fell. But if they really loved each other, they could have been together, and the band would have survived. I think Mick and Stevie, clean and sober, would have been a damned good team. They certainly look adorable together. A Giant and a Wood Nymph. :p

What is she supposed to say?? He is her bandmate....of course she is going to say she loved him. I think she did love him but her soul mate? No way. She has also recently said that the relationship was all alcohol induced. Has Stevie actually said she considered Mick her soulmate?
BTW...in EFO...that line, IMHO, means "you", her friend, always knows when something is wrong with her. As in this man knows her better than anyone in the world, he looks at her and always knows if something is wrong. "You always know when something is wrong, My Friend" ...Lindsey.

Well, she refers to him consistently as one of the three "great loves" of her life  I think the three are MF, Joe Walsh, and LB. But, who knows with her
On edit - Mick has refered to her that way:
"It was all part of the ongoing saga that makes the band unique", grins the lanky 55 year-old. "Unique even to this day, let me tell you. I went to Hawaii recently with my wife Lynn and our kids, and Stevie rented a house just down the road. My wife is a soulmate, but Stevie is a soulmate, too, and Lynn knows that. There's so much you can enjoy with that dynamic."
http://www.nicksfix.com/article_independent_review_april18_2003.htm
Then again, for the TISL promos - she said this:
It must be intimidating to ask you out. It's like asking out Cinderella.
I would think it would be very intimidating for people. That's probably why most people don't, you know, because they're scared [laughs]. I figure if there's a soulmate for me out there somewhere, I'll find him. He'll find me.
http://burnish.net/articles/rs872.php
Do you get crushes?
Stevie: "Do I meet somebody every once in a while who catches my eye? Sure. Do I wanna make something out of it and then end up having to really hurt somebody's feelings on my way out the door? No. Maybe there's a soulmate out there for me and maybe someday he'll standing there. And maybe he won't be. And if I never get married I'll will be fine because I really do love my whole artistic life and I don't know how much of this I could give up for another person. Because I'm 52 years old, I'm pretty what would you say steeled in my ways. I like things the way I like them, doing things at the times I want to do them, I don't like telling people when I'm going to be back. I don't like being mad at me when I'm not on time.So how do you do that when youlive like I live? My life is just one big crazy rock show. You know? Even without all the drugs and stuff that used to go on it's still that crazy."
http://www.nicksfix.com/article_innews_weekly_may2_2001.htm (one of my fav. interviews ever for her!!!!)
Note - the TISL stuff does not negate Mick being a soulmate as a friend as she was talking about a sexual soulmate.

My understanding or the story I always heard was that Mick dumped Stevie, not the other way around, for her best friend, Sara, who he ended up marrying. As for the drug comment, a person can be in love and be on drugs, believe it or not. I was living proof. I know the way peeps look down on drug users, but they have real feelings just like everybody else. I don't think Lindsey had anything to do with their breakup. Didn't he have a steady gf for like 8 years after Stevie and he broke up? The story I heard and from quotes from Stevie was that Mick broke her heart by choosing her best friend over her. He was doing both of them at the same time. If he hadn't made that decision, who knows. They might have stayed together. I also remember reading that the loves of her life were Joe Walsh and Mick. She said Walsh was the man who broke her heart the most. That says a lot.

I think Stevie & Mick have been kindred spirits -- each enormously attached to the other -- virtually since the day they met. Yes, I'd call them soulmates: although maybe it's more unidirectional (Stevie --> Mick) than bidirectional (Stevie <--> Mick).
Still, Mick keeps close tabs on Stevie & always has. And we all know that she has Mick in her life constantly. They apparently have fought numerous times -- don't all friends? And when they had that major, major fight in 1991 -- with Stevie saying that she would never work with Mick again & that the situation was unresolvable & Mick basically coming across as very blase about it all -- even then, Stevie was telling some reporter about being forced to sing Jon Bon Jovi songs & feeling that if Mick had been around, he'd have come riding in on his "big white horse" to save the day & tell her she didn't have to do that & sending all those bossy stuffed shirts packing.
Those two are soulmates, kindred drama queens, sisters under the skin, etc.
