[Is it too soon for Stevie to even be considered before some majors in their own right get in?]
2006 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Leave Out Many Again
Cleveland, Ohio (AHN) – The nominees for the Class of 2006 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is filled with a lot of hold overs from previous years and virtually ignores a truckload of artists that many critics are shaking their heads over.
J.Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex, Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame, located in Cleveland.
This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five.
Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.
Nominees are picked by a 70-member committee of rock 'n' roll historians, journalists and label execs, with ballots then mailed to an international voting body of 700 music industry types for the final decision. The five to seven nominees that receive the most votes will be inducted into the Rock Hall next year.

If she is, it won't be for many, many years. She was inducted with Fleetwood Mac, they aren't chomping at the bit to induct her as a solo artist, especially with all of the artists and bands that have been passed over year after year.

Heart? Van Halen?? Pat Benatar?? yeah ok, no, Stevie will not be nominated for the R & R Hall Of Fame anytime soon.. especially if she decides to never record another solo record ever again, which seems to be the way this is going :wavey:

Personally, I was shocked when he agreed to reform with Tina, Chris, and Jerry for even that one Hall of Fame induction show. Shocked, I tell you. And then they teased us by saying a reunion could happen and years later, nada.

Dudes, I'm totally expecting Stevie to get in once she's nominated. Eventhough she didn't make the list her first time out, once she's there I'm sure she'll get in. She is well liked, has worked with so many artists, and is considered an inspiration by many young performers today. And she has contributed well enough as a solo artist to reckon her worthy.

The older he gets, the crazier he gets. Which is saying a lot when you look at how nuts he was when they started out. He's a hell of a musician though.

I don't know how everyone else feels, but I think Sabbath, Cooper, Skynard, Benetar and Van Halen should definetely be inducted into Hall of Fame. I am not a huge fan of any of their music, but they are most deserving of being inducted because of their influence and achievements.

It is a shame. I think Bella Donna is her only solo work that would have been grammy worthy. She kinda of went down hill from there. (Don't get me wrong, I love everyone of her solo albums!) I just meant from a "number of albums sold" viewpoint.

I thought H*ll was going to have to freeze over before Blondie got nominated, about damn time.
Now Heart and JJett should've been nominated, and I'm sure Heart will eventually get in but JJett well I somehow don't think she is the most loved individual in the rock world, but she deserves to be in there, her and Heart were some of the first girls to pick up a rock-in-roll guitar. But then again politics plays a part.
I remember hearing that Michelle Phillips had to practically move Heaven and Earth to get the Mamas and the Papas in b/c John Phillips had burned to many bridges, can you imagine the HOF without them in it... :(
As for Stevie she'll get her due, btw is Petty in there yet?

yeah, apparently Kim Carnes and Lucinda Williams are more worthy of a "best female rock performance" grammy than Stevie Nicks
sorry, but i don't think so..
ESPECIALLY Lucinda Williams.. "Get Right With God" is not even a rock song.. its a hillbilly hick song... if anyone besides Stevie should have won that grammy in 2002 it should have been PJ Harvey.. at least she's "rock", not "hick"...

Wait so if Bella Donna was released in 1981 than this is the first year she is eligible. If this is only the first year I'm sure she'll receive a nomination in the upcoming years. This was only her first shot.
And Brian: I could never believe that Lucinda Williams beat out Stevie for Planets with that particular song. A travesty I tell you! Was Stevie at the Grammy's that year? I don't remember seeing her but I wasn't a fanatic back then so maybe I missed it. That was the year Ms. Alicia Keys stold the show and won every award possible.

Def Leppard were excellent in concert this year as were Journey and I wish they were in the running for it. Who the bleep@#%* is voting anyway?!! Hey, don't be ripping on Lucinda. Have you even heard "Car Wheels On A Gravel Road?" That's one of the most amazing albums EVER! I'll agree that that she's not exactly rock, but she's not exactly country, either. She's one of those "alt-country" artists who walk the line (i.e. Johnny Cash, Wilco, Gram Parsons, etc). BTW, nice ethnic slur.

Blondie yes! But Pat Benatar? I mean come on. She had some good material in the 80s but has she influenced anyone?
Stevie has influenced many through her music and fashion, her career has spanned 4 decades and she is still able to tour the major venues and not the circuit routes(see pat benatar).
We will hear Landslide and possibly Dreams on the radio for a long time to come, not sure if the same can be said for Hit Me With Your Best Shot?

Great point. I can't even watch the damn bogus-assed Grammy's after stupid Jamiroqui beat FM in 1998. Where are they now, playing at Joe Blow's Tavern in East Jabipp? WTF, academy idiots? *sigh* I hate how they put Pop and Rock in the same catagory! Not even close. It's more of a popularity contest than it is about the quality of the music. Silver Springs was a million times better than whatever their song was.

I think Benatar is very deserving of being inducted. She was one of the biggest female rockers and put out some kick-ass material. She doesn't get enough credit for being a diverse, experimental artist, which is a shame.

Fleetwood Mac was robbed in 97. Silver Springs WAS the best rock/pop vocal performance of that year. That was a travesty. Stevie not winning for Planets sucked and I thought she deserved it but I would not call it a travesty. Planets was nowhere near the big hit that Silver Springs was in 97. It was a rocking song and a fantastic dance tune but I do not think it was nearly as recognizable to the audience as Silver Springs. I guess being recognizable isn't really how the winners are decided but obviously something influences the judging. Sadly, there will probably be no more Grammy chances for La Nicks.
As for the Hall of Fame...I have no idea if she will get in. I have heard it is important to have a label sort of campaigning for you...I doubt Stevie has that right now with WB after her announcing publically she is considering not recording anymore. Basically, she is already IN the HoF in my mind, so if she doesnt get in as a solo artist...eh, no big deal. Yes, she deserves it and honestly I think Stevie really wants it. That is the only reason I hope she does get a nomination someday....because I think it will make her happy.

I also think that the Mac should have performed Silver Springs at the show instead of clips of Go Your Own Way, Rhiannon, etc. I didn't find it impressive at all.
