Stevie Nicks in her prime...

great setlist
great vocals
great performances (wild, but still coherant)
she looked great
tight band
nice outfits

oh, and she did "Stand back" ;)

enough reasons for me to choose it as her best solo tour! :wavey:

This is a hard one! I'm glad to see the best 2 as the top 2. I'm happy either way. But seeing as I have to vote....

Wild Heart for the win!

I attended the White-Winged Dove shows & the Wild Heart shows, & they were all magnificent. But I have to go with the Wild Heart because there was something so indescribable & so legendary about Stevie's first tour in the big arenas -- the feeling among us fans was like, Our gal has arrived! And the most exciting, heart-pumping moments for me of Stevie's entire solo career occurred on the Wild Heart tour. There are just no words to describe what it was like to hear the drum machine & bongos at the beginning of Stand Back in those cavernous arenas -- it was the very first time ever that we fans were hearing Stevie perform something so modern-sounding, so dancey-trancey, so kinetic ... she was this megastar just bounding across the stage lights, commanding everything & everyone, & the pumping beat in the pit of your stomach was palpable. You never forgot it. Stevie wasn't just at the top of the world that year as a live performer -- she had sailed off the edge of the world, the point of no return. And it really was the point of no return ... for her as well as for all of us.

Well, her SNL and Solid Gold performances of SB and NB are positively beautiful and demosntrate her beguiling demeanor in a flawless manner. I think they are still up on some sites.

Although both of these tours were Stevie in her prime WH wins out for several reasons. By the second solo album I think she had just a little more confidence and was willing to take even more risks i.e. ad libs, etc. She was the essence of a true rock and roll diva and I would attribute a lot of this to the songs. Bella Donna IMO is not nearly as rock and roll as WH. The setlist was just way more rockin for WH (Stand Back, IAF) as opposed to Bella Donna and Angel, etc. I'm also a huge fan of 80's synth and you can't beat that in 83-86 shows. WH hands down was Stevie's best tour evah!!

No doubt this was Stevie at her peak. Stand Back with Bobbye Hall on percussion is enough to make it the winner.

Although it would have been nice if Stevie had come on stage before 11:10 pm at her Oakland WH appearance; I missed the last 1/3 of the show to catch the last BART train.

I cannot believe how absolutely stunning she looks and how amazing she sounds in that Solid Gold performance of Nightbird! That is definitely Stevie in her prime IMO. I've seen it before but I'm blown away. I wonder why Nightbird wasn't included in the set list for the WH tour considering it was a single off the album. That makes no sense.

Also, Stevie is always getting so much crap for being totally coked out during the RAL tour but I wonder how into it she was on the WH tour? She started using the 70's so it seems like by 1983 she was a regular user. Perhaps she was just able to hide it better at that time? Any thoughts?

It was going to be added for the second leg, but that never occured....She went to work on RAL and done all that mayhem in '85, instead.

I think the problem with RAL era is that she was bottoming out and it was the culmination of so many years of use. I'm sure it showed at times during WH tour as well; I imagine that's why she came out at 11:10 for my show.

Some of the boots from the WH tour are IMO so tragic. She tries to speak and gibberish just comes out and your like - what did she just say- then she would sort of, at times, just say the melody or sing one note of it and kind of laugh after, which was alarming to say the least. But, when she was good she was great a la the tv stuff.

But, to each their own.

Yeah I've been listening to some of the WH boots (US Festival, Radio City) and she definitely sounds out of it during a lot of the songs and mumbles a lot! I wish I knew what she was saying half the time. There is no way that was a sober woman. I also have a video of the US Festival which I haven't seen in a while and I think the person that sent it to me said she was a mess during the show. I'll have to watch it again tonight.

I think it has an unfair advantage over the Wild Heart tour simply because there were no official recordings of the Wild Heart tour. But still... I have to say that WWD is superior, not only because of the great setlist, vocals, outfits, energy and hair... she had Roy Bittan AND Benmont Tench backing her up. I always found it amusing that Roy would play the piano like a mad man, but his facial expression never changed- he had the face of a bored accountant. :p

True - but it was thrilling to see her jump off of the stage onto those speakers during SB. It really was the end of the spritely Stevie era.
