Heather Mills McCartney Loses Leg In Row With J Lo's Guards
http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/celebrity/61252004.htm
SIR PAUL McCARTNEY'S amputee wife HEATHER MILLS McCARTNEY lost her prosthetic leg during a violent confrontation with security guards at JENNIFER LOPEZ's New York office.
The incident happened on Tuesday (13SEP05) as the former model-turned animal rights activist attempted to deliver a People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) DVD showing creatures being killed for fur to Lopez, following a demonstration at which the 37-year-old pleaded with fans to boycott the superstar's music, movies and clothes because she uses fur in her fashion range Sweetface.
After striding into the building opposite Manhattan's Bryant Park, accompanied by an entourage of journalists and photographers, McCartney Mills - who lost a leg after being hit by a car in 1993 - was confronted by burley minders who yelled "you have no authority to be here. Get out! Leave the floor immediately!"
In the tussle that ensued, Mills McCartney's prosthetic leg became detached.
She bent down and clutched her knee in pain, before asking to use a bathroom so she could reattach the leg. Guards refused and she was forced to cling onto a photographer as she carried out the humiliating task on a stairwell.
Photographer Richard Corkery tells 25hoursonline.com, "I saw her touch her knee and I could see she was in pain. She limped to the ladies room but it was locked. I found another door open - it lead on to the stairwell. At least she could have a private moment - which is what she needed." .
According to 25hoursonline.com, Lopez's guards continued to verbally attack the group - screaming "Call the cops! Call the cops!!" - until Mills McCartney recovered her composure and was able to leave the building.
Meanwhile husband SIR PAUL McCARTNEY is backing his younger brother against claims he groped a waitress at a party, calling the allegations "ludicrous".
MIKE McCARTNEY, 61, has been charged with sexual assault following the incident in a suburb of the brothers' native Liverpool, England.
But the former BEATLE, 63, is adamant his brother, "A devoted family man," is innocent.
He says, "Mike has respect for people and has earned respect for himself in his professional and private life."

J Lo's a heartless bitch. There have been campaigns for months to get her to stop using fur in her clothing line and she won't hear any of it. She even used her "clout" to get Billboard to pull a PETA ad. I won't pay to see any of her movies and I certainly won't buy one of her **** albums.

On edit and because I just cannot resist
Who does HM she is that she can "stride" uninvited into a private office with an entourage apparently immediately after publicly insulting the people in their and with the sole intent of causing trouble. Did she think they would welcome her with open arms because she is someone famous' wife? Moreover, why didn't she just leave when told to leave, which could have avoided the tussle that happened after she was told to leave. Thus, according to the facts presented in this article, HM acted in a way that knowingly put her in situation where she could be thrown out and J-Lo is not at fault for what happened.
I do think she should have been allowed to put her leg back on, but I am sure after the tussle people were really not inclined to be nice to her. This is PETA we are talking about and they are known to use violence to get their point across no matter how genuinely noble their point is.

They torture the animals before they die. The traps that are set to catch them usually don't kill them, only wounding them instead. Then they're put into cages to suffer until these butchers deem it time to skin them. When they do murder them, they either electrocute them, poison them with carbon-monoxide, break their necks, slit their throats, or strangulate them. Unfortunately, a great number of them do not die from any of that and end up being skinned alive. People who wear real fur when they can wear faux fur sicken me.

I tend to agree. Its one thing to demonstrate across the street, thats protected speech. But to agressively enter someones office and berate them and get in their face, what did she expect? Her cause may be worthy, but her methods crossed the line. PETA lost some credibility for me when they started resorting to agressive protests, vandalism and intimidation tactics.
Sorry. not a good way to get people to sympathize with your cause IMO.

That's the whole point, not any of that other predictable stuff you said. It was downright cruel for them to treat her the way she did after her leg fell off. I get that they were pissed off and wanted her out, but christ, that was low.
In any event, Heather Mills McCartney's behavior in no way changes how heartless and disgusting an individual J Lo is for using real fur in her clothing line.

I just don't understand why HM didn't do things in a different manner. It's totally humiliating how that all went down but I just don't get why the woman, with her newfound clout, just didn't go about it differently.
Fur is horrible, I would never wear it. I never touch veal either.
But there are ways to go about protesting it without looking like a crazy madwoman. The story of the leg will be alot bigger than the issue at hand, that J.Lo hates furry little animals.

How are you going to get attention to your cause by just standing outside an office with a sign? You can't, not these days. People drive by those who picket and they snicker. It takes salt, ingenuity, and outrageousness to get attention. I'd be willing to bet that this incident alone got many, many more hits to the PETA website than any picket line protest would, and if that means people are currently reading about the horrific ways animals are treated and possibly changing their minds about their support of such practices, it's a good thing in my eyes.

Well I have even less respect for PETA in this story.
Yes it sucks that HEather lost her leg - why did the confrontation get violent though?
She is half to blame in this IMO. Yes they should have let her re-attach it - but emotions were probably high - and PETA people are totally unpredictable - so who knows what people were thinking.
Why J-LO is to blame in this story is beyond me - she wasn't there - she didn't order then to not let HMM put her leg back on

Just yesterday we were discussing Christianity, so how Christian-like is it to torture and brutalize these creatures? Would Jesus approve?

That may be the most ridiculous argument I have ever heard!
God gave us dominion over the animals - believe it or not - animals have been getting killed by man since the dawn of time - for food and for wear.
It's called the "circle of life" as Disney has coined it - we just happen to be at the top of the food chain!
How do you know who supplies J-Lo with her furs? Maybe she gets them from a humane fur dealer

Well, I'm not a PETA member and I don't agree with Heather Mills' tactics at all, and I'm not trying to start an argument with you - I'd just like to ask you something. Alright, I'll take into account your belief that "God gave us dominion over animals" and that humans have used fur as clothing throughout history. BUT, fur is no longer necessary - and for those who want the look and feel of it, synthetic material is available. So my question to you is, why should animals continue to die cruel and violent deaths so they can be made into coats? After all, aren't they also "God's creatures?" Shouldn't they be treated with an amount of respect?

Freeman's 'Unfinished Life' Co-Star Gets Different View of Serious Actor in Scene With Partial Nudity
By The Associated
The Associated Press
Sep. 17, 2005 - Boxers or briefs? Becca Gardner got a backside view of co-star Morgan Freeman for a scene in "An Unfinished Life."
In the new movie directed by Lasse Hallstrom, Freeman plays a ranchman who was mauled by a bear, making him dependent on morphine. Becca's character has to give him an injection.
"I was kind of nervous to see, like, his butt, and I pulled down his pants and he was wearing a thong!" the 15-year-old told The Associated Press in an interview.
"An Unfinished Life" also stars Robert Redford and Jennifer Lopez.
"Everybody else knows her as J.Lo, but I see her as Jennifer," Becca said. "Like they're two different people. She was like a big sister to me. She's so sweet and loving."
When Lopez asked Becca to name her favorite singer, "I told her Stevie Nicks and she said, `I only know one of her songs,' and she tried to sing the song, but she didn't know the words very well, so I had to teach her."
Becca, who was 13 when she won the role, said she was nervous about meeting Redford.
"I'm like, `Hi, Mr. Redford,' and he's like, `You can call me Bob.' I'm like, `OK. You can call me Becca.' I think of him as a stand-in grandpa."

No one said fur farms are going away any time soon; the realistic goal is to work towards making fur less of a desired commodity, which would lessen the number of innocent animals being slaughtered to manufacture such despicable apparel. It isn't that hard to comprehend.

The same can be said for the tactics of liberals and Democrats.
I think PETA takes things a bit too far at times, but on the other hand, I'm grateful that they do because it leads to more attention and more exposure to animal rights. At this point, a peaceful protest isn't going to get you anywhere; you need to be loud and obnoxious to get the desired attention. I laugh at PETA alot more than before...They came to Oklahoma a year or so ago to offer 20,000 lbs of veggie burgers to the town of Slaughterville in exchange Slaughterville would change their name...
The town unanimously voted no, Why, Because the town was named after a Mr.Slaughter not because of the rumoured reason that PETA stated...
PETA suffered egg on face and went ahead and donated the veggie burgers anyways.
I will say I did see one positive about PETA, Back in June 2002 when the Ford Center opened for business the first show inside was the (lame) Ringling Bros. & Barnum Bailey Circus...They (PETA) had a beautiful woman painted up like a tiger inside a cage to protest the circus' mistreatment of animals (I agree with PETA on that), The news showed this gorgeous lady as they interviewed her inside the cage...
Only thing the news didnt know she was nude and was wearing paint in all the nice strategic places...Man, she had a nice body, Made me want to join PETA just to get her phone # (I dont think the wife would like that much.)

I disagree. I think outrageous behavior only gets you disdain.
I think people have been gradually switching over to other fabrics on their own, JLO wont sell any furs to people who wont wear them, and I truly think the demand is down, therefore that particular line will probably fizzle all on its own.
PETA is no better than the Christian fundies if they resort to strongarm tactics or outrageous behavior to force everyone to march to their tune...In the end, we are all only responsible for our OWN behavior. We each must act according to our own conscience.

Yeah, that's definitely your brand of logic.
P.S. LV is made of leather and you are a proffesed LV girl - please surrender it all now
You think I buy real LV? I'm not that frivolous with my money. I think I did once years ago. Knock-offs all the way, babe. You can even buy LV knock-offs at Overstock.com nowadays.

People who wear real fur when they can wear faux fur sicken me.
this is so sad~ did you ever watch the docu, i think it was called "roger & me" another michael moore thingy?, but there was a chick on there who lost her job & was raising bunnies for this purpose, so she is sitting there holding 1 of her bunnies all sweet like, & then she just hits the poor thing in the head w/ a bat & skinned it right there, i thought i was gonna throw-up~ i will never wear fur~ hell my mall has a great store w/ fakes, you can hardly tell the difference~

Humane killing is an oxymoron and you know that.
It's unrealistic to think that anyone can put the meat industry out of business and stop people from eating meat, but it is not unrealistic to curb animal cruelty before these creatures are murdered for food. There is no excuse for the conditions they live in or the ways in which they're abused. To kill an animal by cutting limbs off while they're still alive and only stunned by electric shocks is reprehensible. Or to kill them by boiling them alive. Or to break their legs and shove them into cages to suffer until it's their time to have their throats slit. There are ways to prevent it but the meat industry doesn't want to because it would require too much effort and they see nothing wrong with what's happening.

Seriously, I know animals should be treated better - and I support that.
What are you doing to support the better treatment of these animals?

I don't know how those people can sleep at night. I can't even go into pet shops because I see all of those animals in cages and cry because they look so sad and I can't take them home.

Actually, Mr. Let's Try to Call Jason on the Carpet
I give to many animal charities such The Humane Society as well as many human ones.
I also wrote my Congress People to support some Act about humane methods of slaughter.
What I do not do is throw paint on people or haul into someone's office that I consistently decry and expect them to welcome me with open arms and then act put upon when they throw me and my media crew out on my a$$.

I agree with that and was not arguing against it. I was merely saying what is the difference between chopping a chicken's head off or some other method of killing it.

There's quite a marked difference between gassing them and chopping off their heads while they're still alive.

Well, I think you should put your money where your mouth is and insist on using leather only from cows humanely raised and then killed for that sofa. I mean how is that different than boycotting KFC for the inhumane way they raise their chickens  (which I abhor BTW)

Gassing them would seem the more cost efficient way as well.

Because I'm not in any sort of position to do so. I don't own my own company, therefore I don't make the rules. When I run my own business, that's when I can implement such rules. I do what is requested of me if I want to keep my job. I don't get paid hourly, as you said I did, I get paid a set fee depending on the job; some want leather, some don't.

The whole PETA thing is besides the point.
Does J-Lo really need to use real fur on her clothing?
This ain't the Middle Ages folks, there is absolutely no need for it.
And just because she has worked hard to get where she is doesn't justify it. I work hard too and I don't help skin animals alive.
I have to wonder of those who endorse Ms Lopez's right to wear fur, how would they feel if it was their dogs and cats who were being skinned alive for a trimming on some unattractive clothing?
What I find even more mystifying is who the hell is buying Lopez's ugly ass clothes anyway? I will never forgive her for reintroducing the velour tracksuit. Those nasty things don't look good on anybody, let alone overweight middle age women who still think they are hip by wearing something "J-Lo" had on last week.

AHEM. I resent the "overweight middle-aged" comment. I am heavy and in my mid-40's and I certainly wouldnt wear something only because it is trendy--especially JLO's line (I happen to abhor her "style") I choose my clothes for comfort and for coverage, as I suspect most heavy women do.
Its comments like yours that expose the pervasive prejudice against weight/age. One day, you too will be middle aged, possibly even overweight.
A little forebearance on your part wouldnt come amiss.
as for the fact that she uses fur, as I said before, most people DONT wear it any more and I predict that particular line wont do very well. I suspect that the few people that would buy fur probably wont like the reaction they will get from the rest of their friends etc...this whole phenomenon will probably become a non-issue in short order.

well, speaking as an overweight middle aged woman, I cant imagine wearing anything from JLO's Line, and I have my doubts that ANY overweight middle aged woman would rush right out and buy her clothes, thus the comment was off base if you ask me. The days of worrying about what is "hip" and perusing the fashion magazines are long gone for me....

I apologise, I didn't mean to offend.
A lot of people young and old wear those awful velour tracksuits (not necessarily J-Lo's, she just re-introduced the style) here in the UK, and they look terrible on everyone, that's all I meant.
I've seen plenty of people wearing them who shouldn't be. Both teenage girls and their mums wear them.

They do look comfy but they're not too flattering unfortunately, which is why I can't wear them either. I think the only person who they look good on is J-Lo, which is why I blame her for the epidemic! :)

I saw a girl the other day it looked good on but she had a perfect body. To me they are leisure clothing, for lounging around the house, not to be worn out! I have one and it really is comfy but I would never wear it out.
