Premiere is Tuesday 9/27/05 at 9pm :blob1: . Here's the link to read the teams' bio's:
http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race8/
I'm already rooting for the Weaver family. The Paolo's sound funny & I also want to see how Austin Black does - he's 8!
The Linz family gets points from me since they're wearing orange shirts :D . Also - one brother lives here. I already dislike the Schroeder's, mainly for the note that "17 year old Stassi is the queen of the family" Blergh.

Here's my prediction on the way the race will go (Totally based on looks...and bios...but mostly looks  )
Weaver
Gaghan
Godlewski
Bransen
Paolo
Shroeder
Black
With Linz, Aiello, and Rogers in the final three.

I've never been able to get into this show. It's all like "Hey, let's go! Hurry! We gotta get to the... place... yeah, let's go! Hurry!" I TOTALLY miss The Mole. If The Amazing Race had someone trying to sabotage their missions, I'd be all over it! But seeing everyone hurrying to get someone just doesn't hold my interest.

I loved the first two seasons of The Mole (I wonder why...), but I hated those celebrity editions. They were soooooooo bad. Corbin Bernsen and Stephen Baldwin? Yech.
The Amazing Raace kicks ass, though. My favorite "reality" show by far because I get so into it. I literally jump on my couch and slap my hands and stomp my feet and yell and scream when I watch it.

Didn't you notice how the first two seasons were really inventive and, dare I say it, intelligent? Then they did those celebrity ones and it totally went down the ****ter. Not to mention that Ahmad Rahad is quite possibly the most annoying man on the face fo the Earth.

It really was the most creative show I have ever seen. Every episode I thought I had it figured out, but I never did. It funny how the creators knew that no one would be able to figure out The Mole because human error runs rampant and so many mistakes were made during each task, keeping the identity hidden until the end. Amazing.

Pfffffft. You've obviously never watched a whole episode. :p
Little people getting electrocuted, abusive boyfriends smacking their girlfriends, Phil's huge bulge, and just downright nastiness make that program so special. And then there are people like Joyce and Uchenna that you just can't help but love.

It's the BEST show! I only started watching a few seasons ago but I am hooked. I heard the couple from LA a few seasons ago (the abusive ass and his wife/gf?) were negotiating for their own show. They also appeared on Dr. Phil. I loved hating him. This show brings out the absolute worst in me. But like Diss said, some of them you really care for. When Joyce cut her hair - I lost it.

Even with all of that it never seems to cross the line that most reality shows do and become a voyeuristic sleaze fest. It's still an intelligent show... for the most part. That's what I love about it.
And then there are people like Joyce and Uchenna that you just can't help but love.
Or the old couple from last season... sometimes I wanted to slap them and was literally yelling at them through the TV screen, but they seemed very sweet and I had to admire their perserverance.

I love Cold Case Files. But I don't watch it, my roommate hates those kinds of shows. I can see why, I might be a little sick for liking it! I saw it for the first time on a plane and the story was about a new homeowner finding bones of a child buried in the garden beside the house.

Yeah, I've been told to watch it but I just can't bring myself to watch reality tv anymore. I was completely overdosed. And sorry, but the premise isn't even remotely intriguing to me. It just sounds really stressful to watch to me. Watching people hurrying to catch planes and get to places = meh! :sorry:

There is strategizing, there are alliances formed and broken, there's deception, there's drama (both between the contestants as individuals and as teams), and there are physical, intellectual and emotional challenges. Plus you see these teams as they experience tremendous highs and crushing lows.
And it's very fast paced... teams are working hard to keep up the pace and come out ahead as the smartest and fastest, rather than just laying around an island for 48% of the show trying to figure out who to boot off next.

I'm kind of sad for the Black family (Mark actually said to me "that's not cool" so I had to explain that Black is actually their last name. Doof.) but they were not very competitive, so that's the way it goes.
Those little Paolo bastards? They should be ashamed of themselves for talking to their parents that way (esp. mom.) I hope they're totally embarassed when they see themselves on TV. Esp. that smug jerky one who was like "yeah, my dad came here from Italy & tells us he didn't have all these things when he was little. Well, sorry. What am I supposed to do?" Don't be so ungrateful for starters, ass! OMG, I feel like I'm 70 years old...
Love the Lintz fam, love the 2 kids fam, love the sons-in-law fam & the widow w/kids fam. (I screamed when the buggy ran her over - how awful for them after losing their dad!) The rest? Eh. Whatever. Suprisingly, I don't hate that 17 year old 'daddy's girl" but her dad's a jerk. :p

I teared up last week when little rugrat Carissa started with the pouty lip. Those kids did kick ass and Mom and Dad had to do twice as much work having them as teammates. I think the Paulos were freaking hysterical and I will miss them.

They were obnoxious at times, but they reminded me so much of my family & friends, I couldn't help but like them. They were on CBS This Morning today & said they were giving half to their parents & the other half would be split among all 7 siblings.
When the Weaver's basically gave up looking for their charter slip in the stadium, I was hoping they wouldn't win. You're this far & you just stop? Come on.
The Jetboat thing is about a 15 minute drive from here, I've never been on it, though. Always wanted to. I must say that the stupid map puzzle had me more on the edge of my seat than any other challenge this Race! :o poor Wally - so close, yet so far.

The Weavers never bothered me, until last nite. They really were acting like big fat losers, except for the son who was so angry with everyone else.
I didn't care for the Linz boys but they were in a comp so that is part of why they acted like tools. Don't you almost have to try to trash talk the other side when you're trying to beat them? It seems they are less tooly than I thought giving half the money to their parents. Perhaps they are dumber than I thought!
I wanted the Bransons to win too. :sigh:

You are that close to Niagara? Neat! Those things looked really cool and very scary! :D

I would have been happy w/ the Bransens winning also...
WTF w/ Weaver mom? I'm taking a nap....LOSERS!
I know, the puzzle was a nail-biter. Aaack! I'm glad the next season is back to 2 per team, and they will go worldwide again.

Oh yeah. I've been to Niagara Falls literally about 30 times, we used to go annually (our big family outting ) I've done Cave of the Winds (the stairs you walk right next to the bottom of the Falls) and Maid of the Mist (boat that takes you to the base of the Falls) but never the jet - that's a bit higher up the river, I believe.

Yeah, it looks to be. We went there as a family in the 90s, my Mom's brothers and sisters went too. I just framed a photo I took then from the observation tower on the Canadian side. We also did the Maid of the Mist and the Cave of the Winds. It really is an amazing place. What struck me at first is the sound. That is something that obviously doesn't come accross in photos but it doesn't in movies either.

Yup, it's really loud, actually. And you can see the mist rising from MILES away.

Hahaha! Yup. It's actually a really touristy thing to do - I was never on it until 2 years ago when my cousins came in from out of town & they wanted to do it. :)

Nevertheless, it is cool! You can get close to the falls. The Maid is in my photo from the tower!

Really? It seems to me that the other teams were talking smack first because The Weaver's keep to themselves & then the Weavers started getting snarky. I guess it's a matter of opinion (and editing, of course.)
I have to say I don't really know who I'm rooting for. Love the Linz fam, so I guess them. It's not on this week, btw.
I agree with this statement. It seems the Weaver's only talked smack about another family when it became apparent to them (the Weaver's) that certain other familes had issues with them. I really liked the Weaver's and felt the were ganged up on for no good reason. It's easy to jump on the bandwagon which is what some of these familes did. I don't care how hot the Linz boys are, I could not stand their smug attitude.
Look at adorable Rolly Weaver .... :)

I couldn't stand the Weavers, and I was thrilled they came in third. For me it wasn't so much that they talked smack (although it always annoys me when "Good Christians" behave in such a way -- what's so good about you, if you don't even try to be a better person?), but their nasty dispositions are what turned me off.
They complained about every place they went ("If I met someone who lived here, I'd tell them, 'I'm so sorry for you." "This place looks an ugly pimple on the face of the Earth."), and never had a nice thing to say about anyone or anything (even when no one was "picking on them").
Not to mention that they wouldn't have gotten anywhere, if Rolly didn't do every single task (with the exception of the race-car thing).
The Linz family was great... they laughed, they goofed off, they had fun, but they also all worked hard and supported each other throughout the race.
My favorites definitely won.

Thank the stars this ****ty family edition is over and done with. Please don't ever do another one of these, this was unbearable. Not even the magical Phil could get me to watch more than a few episodes of that sludge. Now we can actually look forward to a true amazing race. Anyone know when the new season is supposed to start?

Not even the magical Phil could get me to watch more than a few episodes of that sludge. You, my friend, did yourself a great disservice. The bulge Phil was packing a couple of weeks ago, was JAW-DROPPING.
I was sitting there quietly, with my eyes bugged out of my head like some Looney Tunes character, when my mother says, "wow, Phil has a huge bulge tonight!" :o
In fact, he was testing the limits of his Khakis in several episodes. *faints*

OMG! I know. That one episode, his package was definately Priority Mail. He doesn't wear underwear.

He doesn't wear underwear.A man after my own heart. Though I've never worn a kilt!

However, if I ever saw Phil Keoghan naked, I'd be fainting for an entirely different reason!

oh you guys are killing me, I noticed phil's package as well, it was hard to miss.
And my favorite team won as well, the Linz's were by far the most entertaining. They made me laugh every week. The Weavers were mean and nasty, very hypocritical 'Chriistians' IMO, and the Bransons were just too boring for words. I didn't even know who they were until aobut 2 weeks ago.
