A C-section is pretty painful afterwards too.
I think Angelina Jolie has the right idea - adoption! :)

no ****, right? it gets so tiring.
on the subject of why she had the c-section- there wasn't some sudden medical emergency that made them decide on a c-section. britney was planning it all along. why? well, like other people said- probably because she heard that childbirth hurts. maybe she didn't want to stretch out her hoohoo. maybe kevin made her do it for that reason. maybe that's why he dumped Shar- she gave birth the regular way. who knows. they're all dumb- and the dumbest part of all is that we're all sitting here talking about them  myself included :)

Can I just say that if you don't like pain you won't want a c-section. Sorry but it amazes me that people think that a c section is painless!! It might be at the time but what abou afterwards?? When you can barely move without pain?
I don't talk from experience as I had 2 natural births but my friend had a c section at around the same time and it took a good few weeks for her to feel well where as I was up and about pretty much right after the birth. She also told me the horror story of a friend of hers who ruptured her c section a week after... not nice!

My sister-in-law had a c-section and was in pain for weeks after. She could barely move. Apparently it's the equivalent to major surgery.
It's not the easy option as some people think.
As for Britney, no one here knows why she had one. Just because it was decided in advance does not mean it was not for medical reasons.
And anyway, she still has the right to choose.

Word on the news today is that Britney did not want to go through the pain of childbirth so she had a C section done.
I guess whn you have $ you can have your kid anyway you want. I also thought that there had to be a medical reason in order to have a C section but I guess not. Didn't Madonna also have a C Section?

i wonder too, i have however thought if stevie ever did have a baby, her baby's bassinet would be draped in fabulous black chiffon like "rosemary's baby", minus the upside down cross & not meaning stevie would have a possessed baby, but that bassinet in that movie was very extravagant & stevie-like  ~

Also I think alot stars opt for the c-section because they can do the tummy tuck durring the surgery. I've got over 40 hours of child labor under my belt and personally I'm glad I did the childbirth. There's alot of recovery time invovled with c-sections, plus they have to stick a giant needle in your spine that stays in till after wards. After the baby is taken out you're doped up and out of it for a long time so you're like not even there for the first hours of your child life. Any who, I hope the baby is doing well :)

No they don't really do that and if they do it because of that they are ignorant. Unless you have a large number of childbirths back to back, it is going to go back to the original size and tone.
Then on the subject of not wanting to go through the pain of childbirth, geez, has she never heard of an epidural? Many times you only have to be dilated to a 3 (has to get to a 10 for those who don't know it) before women can get one.
Most OB docs won't do C-sections on first time moms unless there is a medical neccesity. It is a far greater risk for mom and baby to do a cesarean. Repeat c-sections are a different story because it's possible for the uterus to rupture during a vaginal birth after a previous c-section.
Anyway, my two cents. After 45 hrs of labor, I would still say that I would rather not have a C-section because of the pain AFTER. Not to mention they cut thru that muscle which takes awhile to heal, so we'll see how fab Britney's abs look now.
Sorceress
09-15-2005, 02:23 PM
Yeah, when I heard she had a c-section to avoid pain, I literally laughed out loud. Wait til they take her catheter out...wait til they make her get out of bed. I'm sure she'll have lots of pain killers, but it will stilll hurt to roll over, walk around, etc. It's major abdominal surgery. After 2, I can say that it's not any easier than a vaginal birth. Maybe the pain is stretched out over a few weeks rather than a few days. Now doing it for the tummy tuck at the same time? I guess that would make more sense.

The epideral didn't work for me, for my first baby the labor was induced because of toxemia. 38.5 hours of labor + 3 hours of pushing! It was all worth it though, the thing is no matter how much it hurts you're willing to fight, and a few months later I started thinking about having another one :)

Never specify a preference! I went so far as to put a sign on the baby's bedroom door that said "Cynthia's Room" needless to to say his name is not Cynthia! LOL! A friend of mine who is 22 has 3 boys, she kept trying because she wanted a girl! And wants to try again! Another friend was dead set on a boy...you guessed it, 2 girls. Her husbands family was also dead set on a boy and bought the baby all boy stuff. The girl was a cross dresser for the first two years of her life, and they still buy her boy stuff! Sounds similar to my experience, although I didn't have toxemia. But I had excrutiating back labor almost from the beginning, and was in labor for about 35 hours. The epidural was wonderful while it lasted, but wore off right before I was ready to push! 3 hours for me as well, before they whipped out the forceps. Unlike you, though, I already had declared there would be no more children for me when I reached about hour 18 of back labor. I've heard back labor is the worst :( My mom experienced that with my brother, she said it was the worst pain ever.
They had to use the forceps on me too with my first one. My second was like a trip to Disney Land though! I was really scared that the same thing was going to happen again, but I only had a few hours of hard labor and he was out with one push! Still I just look at him sometimes and say "Thankyou", LOL!

Yes, it's horrible! Definitely the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life! It's like being hit repeatedly in the back with a brick! (Not that I've ever been hit with a brick... but you get the picture.) It's caused by the baby being face up instead of face down, and the head laying on your spine, pressing on nerves there.
They had to use the forceps on me too with my first one. My second was like a trip to Disney Land though! I was really scared that the same thing was going to happen again, but I only had a few hours of hard labor and he was out with one push! Still I just look at him sometimes and say "Thankyou", LOL!
Most people say the first one is the hardest. I know several women who had horrible first experiences, and the subsequent births were like a walk in the park in comparison. I'm still too scared to try again, though! (Not that that's the only reason I'll probably stop at one... but it does enter into the equation!)
My experience with my son could have turned out even worse, though. They weren't sure that he'd come out with forceps (he was coming out crooked), so they were preparing to do a c-section if that didn't work. If I'd had a c-section after all the hours of pain, as well as being pretty much torn to shreds down there... I might be in jail now for killing my doctor! :p Seriously, though, I could barely sit down for about 2 weeks after giving birth, I was so sore down there. If I'd had to deal with a c-section recovery afterwards as well, I would have been in serious trouble. And I'm about as big a wimp as there is when it comes to pain!

That does suck that they wouldn't reboost it. I had 30 hrs of labor w/ my daughter  and and had the epidural only for the last 7 hrs. not fun. W/ my son, i asked for it right off the bat, but they put it in wrong at first and I had awful side effects-- pain, plus an intense itch that was all over my body. all while marty napped peacefully in the big ugly chair. lovely.
But I suppose the kids are worth it LOL. :) And when those epidurals are workin', baby, you can't beat 'em!!

I know a couple women who had problems with the epidural not being inserted correctly, or coming disconnected. Not fun at all!
I was well into labor as well (about 24 hours, I believe) when they gave me the epidural, because I wasn't dilating. (I actually punched my husband in the stomach at about hour 23, because he told me I was going to have to wait awhile for the epidural! I know, I'm a horrible person!) But once they gave me that epidural.... I felt wonderful! I was feeling no pain at all, until it started wearing off. They ended up inducing because I wasn't dilating fast enough, and I still couldn't feel a thing, even with the contractions intensifying. When I felt it wearing off, I kept telling the doctors and nurses I needed a reboost. But by the time the anesthesiologist got to me, I was too far along, and they wouldn't reboost. By that time, I could feel everything in my back again. And they didn't realize my son was coming out crooked... when I was making little progress with pushing, the nurse told me I was "pushing ineffectively". She thought it was because I was still pretty numb in my stomach and couldn't feel the contractions there, so she took it upon herself to remove the epidural drip altogether. I freaked out so bad that the doctor ordered her to reconnect it! My poor husband thought I was going to hurt someone... starting with him!
But you're right... when the epidural is working, it's a beautiful thing! If we do decide to have another child, I think my husband will request a "portable" epidural so he can connect it to me as soon as the first contraction hits!

Yep... I had back labour with my first.... and somehow I managed to survive on gas and air. Foolish woman I was! To make matters worse she had he hand up by her face.... with each contraction she would come out so far and then go back in again. Had to be cut in the end

My second was definitely much easier. He was certainly in a hurry to come out. Even took the midwife by surprise. She actually told me to stop pushing... yeah right... at that point I HAD to push, if you know what I mean! LOL

Check this out... My cousin just had a baby boy about a week or so ago... his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck... and his heartrate suddenly dropped.. so she had an emergency c-section... instead of cutting from hip to hip... she was cut the other way.. all the way up her tummy... her doctor said it was the fastest delivery he ever performed.
and we got a big ole 9 pounder named Cameron!
ciao!
