Ok, Well I don't DARE post this on the lindsy board, but as many people DID point out, During lindsys soundstage, stevie WAS on her "best behavior" How she kept the focus compleetly all about lindsy, wich was very appropriate, don't get me wrong, but I don't buy for a second that SHE doesn't remember the rest of frozen love, I think that she was honestly trying to start him off , but he just didn't remember, so she covered, buy saying the same thing. What does every body think ? Discuss~ :)

Heaven forbid she'd go off the cuff and sing something that hasn't been rehearsed over and over.

I think she just really didn't remember, OR didn't want to do it on the fly like that... she is nervous enough about adding new songs to a setlist when she can rehearse them at her leisure, let alone on the spot in front of an audience for a televised taping.

Yup. Plus Stevie was very careful to make sure it was Lindsey's night. To be there that evening was something else. I was totally blown away by his performance. From what I'm hearing, the PBS show doesn't do that evening justice. It's too bad.

Ill bet Stevie knows the words but like it has been said she dared not sing it on the fly...not her style.
I heard that she kinda whispered them as a warm up to the boston doc. Anyone hear this?

She remembered.

You think so? She hasn't done it live since the white album tour, and even then it was an anomaly. She wouldn't have an excuse to know it well enough to perform it on the spot, and I doubt she listens to her own music nearly as often as we do (I wonder if she has a burned copy of BN laying around anyway. Maybe she's only got it on vinyl, so there's even less of a chance she'd actually play it very often  ) Sometimes it surprises me how fuzzy Stevie is on the details of her own career... she often flubs the years of her tours and album releases, but then she doesn't study and obsess over that stuff like we do.

The idea that she would have deliberately stopped so as to not take the focus off of Lindsey doesn't really make sense to me... Stevie shines on that song, but if anything he shines far more. She may have written it, but I think Lindsey owns that song. He sings most of the melody and plays that killer guitar. Stevie essentially just sings backup on it, except for the one verse.

I think it's possible she really doesn't remember. Long nets of white, etc ;). But, I agree... it's more likely that she just didn't want to do it spontaneously.

Now, mind you, I've never before heard a live performance of Frozen Love (would love to though!), but it sounded to me she had the wrong melody going on. And she wasn't even singing the part she sings on the album. Was that something that they did live, like that? Or is another clue that Stevie had no clue what the heck she was doing?

He was great that night.

I think La Nicks knows all the verses of FL, esp. since people were shouting them out loud  I think if he had wanted to play it, she would have though. I think they were kidding around with each other and obviously LB liked it or he would have axed it from the final copy.

There is a live version from Fritz floating around. I don't think it's Fritz, strand. I think it's Fleetwood Mac in 1975 (the two live recordings going around).

As far as doing this majorly orchestrated song off the cuff right there in front of a camera . . . come on! No way. Stevie doesn't remember words, Lindsey doesn't remember guitar arrangements, & the rest of the band probably doesn't even know the chord progression.

I think it was just a fun little moment, spurred by a card-carrying member of the RIAA with a belligerent streak.

I mean, these two sat there with Mark & Brian at the KLOS studios not very long ago, & Mark & Brian asked them to play stuff, & these two just sat there, unable to think of anything to play & sing together except for the stuff they had been doing on tour all year: Big Love & Never Going Back Again.

In one sense, I was just flabbergasted: these two had been singing & playing together professionally for about thirty years at that point, & couldn't perform anything simply & off the cuff?!

In another, I wasn't surprised at all. Buckingham & Nicks -- "we'll play for you IF it's a song we're doing on tour this year anyway."

Sheryl Crow & others (Michael Stipe, etc.) used to say, when hanging out with Lindsey, how he could just play anything, & I always used to wonder just how they'd know, since I couldn't imagine Mr. Anal actually just jamming with other people in the room.

They (Stevie & Lindsey) are just both really bizarre people: she's been playing the piano for thirty or forty years, & plays at exactly the same level today as she did thirty years ago (which is probably a medical phenomenon), & he's been playing guitar for about fifty years, & can't think of anything to play during a casual interview at a radio station. Extremely bizarre. . . .

Well, I was standing about six feet from them and the distinct impression I got was that he was up for it and she was not.

He may have been up for it vocally, but there was no way he was going to be able to play that song on his guitar. He's said before it's a "Weird tuning" and that's why they dropped it. You'll notice he kind of touches his guitar as if he's trying to figure out how to accompany her but not quite sure. He might have figured something out but it would have been difficult, a strum he can only hope is on key.

The lines she sung were not the melody of the song. That was Lindsey's verse so I'm not surprised she remembers a harmony-line type. But considering Stevie sometimes gets confused on what verses to sing on regulars like Stand Back and Rhiannon, I Wouldn't be surprised if she got paranoid about doing the whole thing. Remember the fiasco where she tried to do It's Only Love with Sheryl impromptu, and that was something she had just recorded!

That said, I do think that even if she had been confident about the lyrics, she might not have been confident about pulling off the vocal. Understandable, considering her reduced range. As much as we would have loved her to do it, I can't condemn her for choosing not to.

Didn't La Nicks have to coax LB into playing in that interview. I always though that was a proceless moment. She was like "Come on play it" or something like that.

Also, you may be right about FL being FM - but I always thought it was not because I cannot hear CM in it. But, it is a very bad recording.

Also, you may be right about FL being FM - but I always thought it was not because I cannot hear CM in it. But, it is a very bad recording. It's a pretty rotten recording, but you can hear Chris play the Hammond B3 in it -- nobody else plays the Hammond quite so . . . plainly.

chris was sort of trying to "paraphrase" (tm. Lindsey) the string arrangement on the studio track, or actually not even paraphrase it -- she was just holding down chords.

Still, it worked. It sounded pretty. Stevie sang both verses I have a hunch because it's a little technically heavy to be the only guitarist & have to play "Frozen Love" & to sing a verse on top of that is pretty gutbusting: it's like patting your head, rubbing your tummy, stomping your foot & whistling "Dixie" at the same time.

I believe one of the versions (I only know of two) is dated San Diego 1975. On one you can also hear John introduce it - or at least someone with a British accent. Regardless Fritz never played it because it wasn't written yet - but you probably meant BN. They did play it but sadly no version they did is in circulation. You know what? I might try to post those this week and we can do some analyzing. It'll be fun!

I remember years ago in the late 80's reading an interview with Donna Summer about how she was launching a new tour and had to go back an re-learn all her old songs because she had forgotten them. I thought at the time that is was an odd thing since she had recorded them and sang them on tour before. But having been a singer/songwriter (not profesionally, though) for many years, I look at the stuff I'd written in 93 now, and try to sing it off the cuff and I'm lucky I can remember half of the lyrics! Some songs stick with you longer than others and just because you wrote a song and even had a strong affection for it at the time, does not mean you will always have that affection for it. There are a few songs I've written that I just cringe when I hear them. I think "wow, this was really trite" or "why did I write a song about dolphins?" LOL! So, I don't blame them for not knowing a song they wrote 30 years ago, many lovers, bong hits, pills, rehabs, concerts, albums, and tours ago.

I'll admit it's not incredibly sophisticated but -

wow. . . .

Discuss~ :)

I think she must have remembered - - -

especially considering that the next line is,

"It may be hard to keep up with me,

but I'll ALWAYS be able to reach you!"

And is about how they would find a way to be together,

no matter what happened in their relationship or whatever.

And they RHYME for crying out loud!

And I saw a publicity photo where the B/N album was on her piano

or something in the background.

Then again, she DOES have those "memory glitches" from time to

time!

What I wanna know is, what did she say to him when she

partially turned her back to the camera after "Say Goodbye" and

looked him right in the eyes???

'Cause to ME it sure looked like,

"I'm still in love with you. . . ."

They sure know how to keep us talkin', don't dey!??

She certainly seemed very nervous and unsure before she said

whatever it was. . . .

Anyway as far as only doing the two lines,

I'm sure she felt that her point had been made.

Thunderously. . . .

Well, I was standing about six feet from them and the distinct impression I got was that he was up for it and she was not.

So did you hear what she said to him after "Say Goodbye?"

Or is it like, personal or something. . . .

I agree. Wish I wouldve been there to see that performance. Had to be back to work though. Oh well.

Yeah okay uhmmm . . . These photos are AWESOME!

Except maybe for the one with the security guard looking

like he's about to go all Rambo and start ****ing with her people.

I just thought of something else! :)

How many people who have posted to this thread,

just ABSOLUTELY LOVE the song "Frozen Love?" ???

YOU know - the one that starts out,

"You may not be as strong as me . . .

and I may not care to teach you.

You may not be able to keep up with me . . .

but I'll ALWAYS be able to reach you!" ?

Yeah - ME too! :)

So, uhmmmm . . .

what's the next line? . . . .

I just watched it...my interpretation is that she was totally up to do it but honestly didn't remember and got a sense from him it wasn't happening so she went with that. He did not seem like he wanted to continue and she looked like she would have winged it just for him (even if she didn't remember). Who knows I could be wrong.

This is also the impression that I got.Yes, We know stevie can be "sketchy" on details, especially on ANYTHING that happened during or after Rock a little , but Frozen Love was before cocane, before klonopin, rehab, robins death, touring endlessly with fleetwood mac,and before a whole lotta other boyfriends, and We all know that Stevie thinks about one thing to no undying end, and that one thing is LINDSEY FREEKIN BUCKINGHAM  And I am more than sure that she thinks about buckingham nix more often than we think.

I will be the optimist here and guess (yeah right), well maybe I am not the optimist I claim to be but here goes...

Maybe Stevie brought up FL to remind Lindsey how great that song was and how great their harmonies are on those old songs to hopefully release BN on CD.
(Could happen... say in the year... 2015)

She does seem to mention that in interviews, but again, as we all know, that means NOTHING. I would just love a new version of this song, but live, not studio, now adays I think Mr. Buckingham tends to over produce. an acustic version, like they did for gypsy at AHI. :blob2:

Now, mind you, I've never before heard a live performance of Frozen Love (would love to though!), but it sounded to me she had the wrong melody going on. And she wasn't even singing the part she sings on the album. Was that something that they did live, like that? Or is another clue that Stevie had no clue what the heck she was doing?

In the live version, it's pretty much a Stevie solo vocal. She sings both verses. Lindsey comes in only during the chorus. During the middle part of the song, during the build up for the guitar solo they both sing "I"ve been frozen for you" several times, which isn't in the studio version. That's really cool. Fleetwood Mac performed the song amazingly well. And it sounds like the crowd liked it too.

I always thought that Stevie sang both verses because, given that time and that particular set list, she had the least solo vocals.

Those two live versions were awsome I LOVE when stevie sings her songs, and lindsy yes, sings harmony, but does what he does best IMHO play the guitar, too bad, they arent better qualitty.

i'm chiming in a little late, but hey...

as i sat grinning on my couch at 5AM watching SS the first time it aired down here (damn WEDU's schedule!), my little heart STOPPED as soon as i saw her lips move in the direction of Frozen Love. i can't imagine what it must have been like standing in the audience, not knowing the setlist and what was going to happen. ps - is that nancy in the front row? that was the look on my face, too. open mouth, bulging eyes, clasping hands, total... something.

the look on his face is priceless. i would KILL to hear what they were saying onstage. i can pick out most of it on their lips, it's not much, but i really wish he'd said something other than "great two-part harmonies" afterwards. something along the lines of... nope, way too shipper for this board ;)

even my dad commented on that little exchange.

after listening to the snippet of soundstage, it almost sounds like she was singing it like she'd sing it now...like say...alone in her home, or with an intimate audience...i think it sounds on-key, in that "adult" Stevie way...

I would love to hear her sing it now, I think of how much I love the newer version of crystal, and with the new falseto she seems to have discovered (I.E. Sorcerer, deep dish Dreams remix.) I think stevie could do a cool version of it now. And yes, Lindsy has allways been an amazing guitar player, but he really seems to be at the top of his game now. I think they could rock that song! :]

Extremely bizarre. . . .

  OHMG
i think Stevie'e piano skills are

A: definitely weed induced
B: completely purposely non high tech as not to overshadow THE MASTER

:p
