Really wanted to share these lyrics with you guys. A song by Amy Grant, and these lyrics stir my soul in a deep way...and I feel it's really a song about that longing for hope and change in the world...

TURN THIS WORLD AROUND

We are all the same it seems
Behind the eyes
Broken promises and dreams
Our good disguise
All we're really looking for is some place
Safe and warm
The shelter of each other in the storm

Maybe one day
We can turn and face our fears
Maybe one day
We can reach out through the tears
After all it's really not that far
To where hope can be found
Maybe one day
We can turn this world around

Who can trace the path of time
Not you or me
The twisting road we call our lives
We cannot see
The hunger and the longing everyone of us
Knows inside
Could be the bridge between us if we try

Maybe one day
We can turn and face our fears
Maybe one day
We can reach out through the tears
After all it's really not that far
To where hope can be found
Maybe one day
We can turn this world around

Yes that is a nice song. I really like Amy Grant. There is always hope in her songs. I have been a fan of hers forever. At least since 1984.

That’s What Love Is For
Good For Me
I Will Remember You
Lucky One
House Of Love – Duet With Vince Gill
Takes A Little Time

Yes, she actually started recording in 1977/78. She actually was a pioneer if you will...because there really was no "contemporary christian" music back in those days.

"Lead Me On"

(Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Wayne Kirkpatrick)

Shoulder to the wheel
For someone else's selfish gain
Here there is no choosing
Working the clay
Wearing their anger like a ball and chain
Fire in the field
Underneath the blazing sun
But soon the sun was faded
And freedom was a song
I heard them singing when the day was done
Singing to the holy one

[Chorus: ]
Lead me on
Lead me on
To a place where the river runs
Into your keeping, oh
Lead me on
Lead me on
The awaited deliverance
Comforts the seeking...lead on

Waiting for the train
Labelled with a golden star
Heavy hearted boarding
Whispers in the dark
"Where are they going-is it very far?"
Bitter cold terrain
Echoes of a slamming door
In chambers made for sleeping
Forever
Voices like thunder in a mighty roar
Cry to the Lord

[Chorus]

Man hurts man
Time and time, time again
And we drown in the wake of our power
Somebody tell me why

Amy was one of the first Christian music artists to sing rock. Her album, Unguarded (my personal fave) is lauded as one of the greatest Christian rock albums of all time. Lead Me On is another.

Lead Me On is an AMAZING ALBUM! Considered one of the best! And that song is simply beautiful! I think Michael wrote the verse and Amy the Chorus.

I have Michael's Worship DVD, Talking about bringing you to your knees. Very powerful. He also does a spoof on the Osborns, very funny.

El Shaddai makes me cry. I saw her in concert back in like 1997 or 1998 and she did that acoustic....I was balling. One of the greatest songs, EVER. Her Christmas album, Home for Christmas, is my favorite Christmas album, it's perfect.

 Home for Christmas is fantastic - or perfect as you state - I love it!

I had tickets to see Amy in the early 90s I think - I remember because I begged my grandpa for $20 for the ticket...then she canceled because she had to have eye surgery or something :( So I've never seen her.

El Shadai makes me weepy too - it's just so beautiful and she sings it with such emotion....love it.

Oh and yeah - her version of Hark! The Herald is PERFECTION!

Amy Grant is a great artist, imo. I've kind of grown out of her, but I totally respect her. Brings me back to the days when I was obsessed with Point of Grace (blech)...

For anyone who wants to here the song "Turn This World Around", that I posted the lyrics too...

here is a link to a sight where you can download an acoustic live performance she did on the radio a few years back. and then there is also a link to the story behind the song (she tells before she sings it)...it is one of the funniest and most heart warming stories I have heard.

scroll down to the Mix 102.9 Radio Special from 1997 and is segments 9 and 10.

***If you have DSL these stream SUPER fast...so no long download.

I can hear how Heart In Motion is a bit dated and well - I think her music is just realy positive "pure" I guess - no profanity etc...

Oh - I forgot...also LOVE the song "Ask me How I know" and "Galileo"

Obviously Heart in Motion is the album with which I am most familiar.

She's as fake as the day is long. My mother and I had the "pleasure" of meeting her years ago. All my mom said was "I've really enjoyed your music over the years." She looked at my mom like she was some street rat and said "uh...gee, thanks." And then walked away.

That is NOT Amy...

She is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She treats you sort of like a friend.

I dont' know what was up with her that day...time of the month or what! BUT I HAVE NEVER EVER EVER read one story where a fan didn't have a pleasent encounter with Ms. Grant...except for the one you just posted.

And I have been backstage A LOT!

Yeah - maybe she was having a bad day - or was approached at an inopportune time???

I've heard nothing but good things about her from people who have met her.

Heart in Motion is def. very early 90's! lol...and Amy will be the first to admit that. It's so funny because a lot of her stuff prior to "Heart in Motion" does not sound dated at all, really. Her new stuff is killer-good!

No she approached us. It was a small concert she did in east Tennessee back in the mid 90s. My mother knew the pastor of the church that sponsored the show...i remember it vividly and I remember thinking she was an ungrateful bitch.

Galileo is my fave song on Heart in Motion. :)

Brandon, sorry to hear about your Amy experience. I dunno why she wouldn't have been more nice. "Um, gee thanks." doesn't sound bad, was it her tone?

I've not met her, but I've met Michael W. Smith and he was one of the sweetest, kindest people I've ever met. My mom interviewed him and I got my picture taken with him. We sent him some pictures and he sent them back autographed! I lurve him.

Well, I don't see how this could be Amy. However I have heard her say that back in the early 90's, when she gained her "sudden" fame...she has said that she did, for a while, let it get to her head. So...

But that has def. changed!

More GREAT Amy lyrics to post...haha

ASK ME
Amy Grant

I see her as a little girl hiding in her room
She takes another bath and she sprays her momma’s perfume
To try to wipe away the scent he left behind
But it haunts her mind.

You see she’s his little rag, nothing more than just a waif
And he’s mopping up his need, she is tired and afraid
Maybe she’ll find a way through these awful years to disappear.

Ask me if I think there’s a God up in the heaven
Where did he go in the middle of her shame?
Ask me if I think there’s a God up in the heavens
I see no mercy and no one down here’s naming names
Nobody’s naming names.

Now she’s looking in the mirror at a lovely woman face
No more frightened little girl, like she’s gone without a trace
Still she leaves the light burning in the hall
It’s hard to sleep at all.

Still she crawls up in her bed acting quiet as a mouse
Deep inside she’s listening for a creaking in the house
But noone’s left to harm her, she’s finally safe and sound
There’s a peace she’s found.

Ask her how she knows there’s a God up in the heaven
Where did he go in the middle of her shame?
Ask her how she knows there’s a God up in the heavens
She said his mercy is bringing her life again.

Ask me how I know there’s a God up in the heaven
Where did he go in the middle of her shame
Ask me how I know there’s a God up in the heavens
She said his mercy is bringing her life again
She’s coming to life again.

He’s in the middle of her pain
In the middle of her shame
Mercy brings life
He’s in the middle
Mercy in the middle.

So ask me how I know...
Ask me how I know there’s a God up in the heavens.
