View Full Version : Like or Dislike: Greta

Eh. Not awful, not wonderful. The vocal is pretty good, save the annoying "ooh, she's got a MOVIE star view." Of course, I shamelessly sing along to that part, so wth am I talking about? The music - I like it. Again, not that great. It's an OK song. I don't skip it, but I don't get the urge to hear it out of nowhere either. I wonder what Greta would say...

Best lyric:

"She's got her bags packed...
And she's off to the valley where the
sun meets the sea"

Worst lyric:

"In a very real way...she's the purist art form"

I despise that line, it makes me nauseous. Seriously Stevie. "Rhinestone collections all the time" not so good either, but "the purest art form" is just yuck. It reminds me of those cheesy mother/daughter/womanhood/bonding books/poems/whatever. Ew.

Another one co-written by Mike Campbell. I really have to reread all my liner notes, I obviously have not been paying attention.

It's ok. Not that great, not that terrible. Just right in between. I know of alot of people who really like it. I never understood that.

When I first got into Stevie and thought everything she did was brilliant, I really liked that line. I thought it was cute.

It's a top ten (maybe 5) song for me.

I love how the song builds up to:

Do you really want to change her?
Do you really want to change her?
Or is it your right?
----awesome guitar work----

The '93 Master Reel is pretty darn good, too. Nice guitar work as well.

I wanna hear this live soooo bad. A great opener, IMO....if it was more well known.

Meh - its okay. It should not have been on the record though because it and the 70's demo are just not that great IMO.

70's Demos? I don't think I have ever heard any 70's demos of Greta! That would be interesting.

I love it. Top...4 on Street Angel. It makes me really happy. I always imagine it's about me, that's why.

Anyway, I guess I just identify with it. Plus, it has a nice tune, nice tempo...I like the way it starts a capella (or nearly so?) and then the way it kicks in. I know people can rip the lyrics, but I like them. One of my favorite lyrics (and actually, I like the musical interlude, too, it becomes spare at the beginning of this) is...

"ooo, alone in her chamber she dreams of her home.
In a very real way she's the purest art form.
I bet she said just how many art lovers can one, get to know (although, I used to think it was "just how many are the lovers can one get to know)
She doesn't have an hour
She doesn't have five minutes
She's got to go!

She's got her bags packed
And she's off to the valley where the
sun meets the sea
You understand that
She wants to live by the ocean
And no one is pleased
She gets a house in the mountains
The next day
the next day she leaves the station"

Okay, I just realized that's a huge portion of the song I love, but I REALLY LOVE IT!

My other favorite part is: (because of the music and the way the lyrics sound. I like the way it rocks out here, and the guitar in it).

"Well some cry well I really don't dance down
Stormy weather it cuts like a knife"

Yeah, the rhythm of the words "wellsomecrywellIreallydon'tdancedown!" is really tasty to me.

<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3 infinity for Greta. I love the Movie Star View line, too.

Plus, when SA first came out, this guy at my work wrote a really funny parody about me using Greta as basis. He was the first crazy mac fan I ever knew.

I think he meant 80s. It was a RAL outtake.

That on too, but I thought there was a BN one. It is not totally like the SA one, but it is similar. Of course, I could be hallucinating

I like it. It's one of the songs on SA that I always like to listen to. It's upbeat sounding and I also like how it builds up to the "do you really want to change her" part.

I just want to argue with Amber. I think it's a lame and humiliating song. Klonopin hall of shame award.

I especially love the harmonies on the chorus.

And:
She's got her eyes wide open
And she's ready to stare you down

One of the best things about SA, in my opinion.
Really.

And much of that CD sucked.

I love love love this song and the 80s demo. I guess you learn something new every day though, because I always thought she was singing "Just how many ODD lovers can one get to know" until I read Amber's post.

I think this is one of her fun breezy songs...well the music is. It's a top twenty song for me.

On another SA note, i popped it in right when I got up, because it's cloudy, cold, and foggy -
Just Like a Woman and Kick It in a row just had me bawling :o ....I love both those songs.
*waits for poll about Kick It and JLAW*

"...you won't see me smiling, tomorrow when it's very dark, no crying"

Rhinestone collections "most" of the time. I really like this song mainly because of it's lyrics, which I think are really fun and catchy and easy to put into emails or instant messages...I much prefer the 80's demo of this song with the "da da da" parts. I happen to love the "ooh, she's got a movie star view" part...
