How about a new forum where you can request an MP3, etc., post your e-mail addy, & then kick back & wait for another ledgie to fulfill your request?
Then, when that ledgie has sent what you wanted, you delete your request from the forum, or add the word RECEIVED to the bottom of the post so that other ledgies don't keep sending you the same file.
Everybody's always asking for MP3s or photos or other stuff, but these requests are always buried under various & sundry threads, & I have a feeling they get lost.

I think this would be a great idea - much like the "Bootleg Bin" over on Nancy's site.

That's actually an excellent idea, David.
I'll suggest it to Marty. :)

That's so simple, I might even be able to handle that, then again maybe not.

How about a usendit take one leave one policy....i have heard of other forums that do it this way and it seems to work out fine.
I think it we would then have a great place for those of us who can't do the the torrent files...just a thought

This has been discussed several times, but nothing ever came of it. Same with a trading forum - I believe Brian J. offered to moderate it if it ever came to pass. But it never did.

I remember that too. I think that both of these ideas, mp3 page and a trading page, are terrific ideas. Hopefully, if the right person on here gets ahold of this thread, it will come to pass.

But it never did. :shrug:I'd like to moderate the MP3/Photo Request forum because it wouldn't entail any warnings or strikes or debates or discussions. I would just automatically & immediately delete any extraneous off-topic posts. In order for such a forum to function properly, the signal-to-noise ratio must be very high. In fact, the noise must be practically nonexistent.
If such a forum is overrun with chitchat & gab, there's no need for the forum. You might just as well keep all MP3 requests buried in the threads on the other forums, where they are now.

I would be up for a trading forum but not so much for an email sharing forum. I think that they are both good ideas, however.

maybe a datadump that can be sorted for duplicates...then anyone at anytime can upload or down...it they are deleted once specific requests are fulfilled then someone new on board may not have the chance to receive?

The trading pages number in the hundreds. The Ledge doesn't need a whole new forum to facilitate trading. But people here are always asking for MP3s or photos or video snippets or article scans, & a forum devoted especially to immediate requests that could be fulfilled via e-mail would be very useful. I know I'd use it a lot to post requests.

Ooops, thanks for telling me, I fixed it! I hate my new server, instead of telling me a file with that name doesn't excists, it just links to another file! *grrr*

I kinda see your point with respect to the trading aspect. The mp3 idea is what I'm pushing really. A way to centralize...

So. It would be cool to have a Ledgie trading forum. I didn't say the MP3 thing was a bad idea, just that I'd use the trading board cause I don't download. I would assume if they did something like this it would be a bootleg forum in general so it wouldn't be restricted to trading or downloads. It could be anything to do with boots. THe bootleg bin on Nancy's site is like that. Some people post wanting trades, others post looking for mp3s.

Becky, I hear you because I am on dial up, too. I just a letter from AOL saying that it was now in my area but I needed to install something. No thanks. I'll pass.
I would rather get a CD or DVD in the mail then download it anyway. I can see the benefit of getting something right away online, however. No postage and no waiting so maybe at some point I will look into getting DSL.

Dial up sucks big time. I just can't afford DSL right now, or else I'd get it. I like trading the old fashion way. Getting a whole show at one time, DAO, that I can just pop in my car stereo or DVD player. I download everyonce in awhile when it's something special. I HAD to download Stevie doing Rock and Roll as soon as it was available. That held me over till I could get it on CDs :D

Sidebar, but still involving "new forums":
I think it would also be great if there was a Chit Chat forum specifically for music...a place where we can talk about other music besides The Mac. I'm not really interested in wading through the latest on "Survivor" or "How to survive a break-up" to get to "Who's seen the current Tom Petty tour?" I certainly think these things should be available to discuss for those who are interested, but it would be ideal if there was a seperation.
Anyone else?

Not a bad idea, but I think that would be a bit much. I don't know, I don't think it's that hard to see the threads I'm interested in. If you were to start a thread regarding a certain artist and it was being discussed, it would always be near the top of the page.
