Anybody looking forward to any new shows this coming season?
How I Met Your Mother seems like a cute little comedy, I hope it's not crap.
I'd like to watch Bones, but Gilmore Girls is on at the same time so no dice. Tivo's not hooked up right so I can't watch one thing & record something different. We're dumb.
My Name is Earl is getting great reviews, but it looks so dumb to me. Plus, The Amazing Race is on, so forget it.
I'll probably watch Everybody Hates Chris. It's gotta be better than Joey, right?
I already missed the first ep of Reunion, but it seems so original I'll have to try to catch it.
I have NO desire to see any of the new law shows or supernatural/weird/alien shows. None of them. Blech
Returning shows I'm looking forward to: Medium, Gilmore Girls, 2&1/2 Men, Still Standing, Family Guy, Desparate Housewives, Amazing Race, Bernie Mac & Malcolm in the Middle.

Hmmmmm, not many new shows look good to me.
Commander In Chief might be good, I'll watch that one because I like Geena Davis and it got good reviews.
I'll try Kitchen Confidential because I love Bradley Cooper.
How I Met Your Mother is supposed to be laugh out loud funny and got *great* reviews, so that might be a good one.
Other than that, I'll just watch the few shows I normally watch. Malcolm In the Middle, Medium (should be such a good season from what I've read), Alias (but if they kill off Michael Vartan, that's it for me), The Amazing Race, and Boston Legal (I read that David E. Kelley is going to be much more hands-on and that Mark Valley will be used much more, so I'm there).

Depends on what news your watching. The nightly news, which I *never* watch, will surely be scary once Katie Couric takes over CBS.

That's more untrue than ever in the last couple of years.
I'm looking forward to Kitchen Confidential, but I don't think I'm watching anything else new. I have been watching Prison Break because of teh pretty that is Wentworth Miller. Holy schnike! Oh, and I'm sure I'll try Invasion, because I'll always give anything from Shaun Cassidy a chance.
I'm a whore for my returning shows. Alias, Arrested Development, Battlestar Galactica (although it started weeeeks ago), Boston Legal, CSI (original recipe only, thank you), Gilmore Girls, House, The OC, Veronica Mars. And 24 and Scrubs in January.

Is it a good article? I haven't read it yet, but my heart skipped a beat when I saw the three of them on the cover when I got my mail. I hate how they're going to draw out the identity of The Carver, though. It drove me nuts when it took ten episodes for Sean to find out Matt wasn't his kid.
In any event, I'm watching season two over again and the deleted scenes on the DVDs are FANTASTIC.

Are you kidding? There's actually quality television now, you know. There are incredibly creative people who have come in with great ideas for shows, and craft them with more quality than 95% of the movies released nowadays. Arrested Development is by far the funniest, most inventive, well-written, and perfectly acted television show in history, as far as I'm concerned. Veronica Mars is a perfect example of an original spin on a relatively tired idea, elevated by perfect acting and the ability to truly sustain a mystery throughout a season. No one's done it as well as they have since the first season of Twin Peaks. Sure, I have my guilty pleasures, but shows like those two, and Battlestar Galactica, which is one of the best dramas to hit television in years, not to mention THE best sci-fi show, redeem television. And don't even get me started on Gilmore Girls.
I really hate the attitude that there's nothing good on TV. There's plenty of crap, but there are more quality shows on television now than there probably ever has been. I hate that holier-than-thou "TV SUCKS" attitude. Most music sucks too, and most movies suck. That doesn't mean that there aren't amazing films and amazing artists out there. Anyone who bitches about TV in a blanket statement-their credibility goes down in seconds to me.
And did you read the title for tomorrow's GG ep? "New & improved Lorelai."
Yep :) As long as I hear an emphatic "YES!" from my flannel-y boyfriend I'll be happy no matter what!!

yeah, I can't watch that much. But I'm not sure if it's because I'm impatient - lots of times I'd just rather read. Although lots of TV definitely does suck.
But - I'm looking forward to the Chris Rock show.
the rest are shows that are already on, not new. I don't have cable, though.
So...
The new America's Next Top Model starts on the 21st. Veronica Mars on the 28th. (I have class that night, sadly)
Boston Legal is on at 10, so that's convenient.
Grey's Anatomy.
Sunday Fox animation block, all.
mainly i'm stoked that South Park is going to start running on UPN every night at 11:30. - Even though I've seen all the first...4-5 seasons? :p

I feel that way about movies today. Can't remember the last movie I saw and went "WOW, that was amazing!! Can't wait for that to be on DVD!!" I do want to see Batman (no, I never got to see it  ) and The 40-Year-Old Virgin when they come out on DVD I guess. When I was a kid, we rented movies ALLLL the time, now, I very rarely go to the movies. I'd rather watch TV or listen to music and surf the net.
Can't wait for Lost, Desperate Housewives, The Office and How I Met Your Mother (have heard wonderful things about it).

Truth be told, I wouldn't have watched it if it wasn't for McDonnell, but I was blown away by how good it was when I tuned in. I didn't realize how popular it was, either, until I went to get the DVD and there was a ****load of people snatching it off the shelves at Best Buy.
BTW- I wish I could have your attitude about Alias. I'll stick around no matter what and bitch the entire time.
Alias will be simply ruined without Vartan. They spent four years building up the relationship between Syd and Vaughn, they've teased us, split them up, got them back together, gotten her pregnant, etc, and now they want to pull the rug out and essentially tell us to go screw ourselves. No thank you. I stuck around when they were slowly killing the show, but I won't stick around for when it finally jumps the shark. I'm also not enthused about the influx of new agents that are joining the show. It kills me to watch it become such a shadow of it's former self.

My thing is, it's weird to me how involved people get with TV shows, and how much they discuss them. And also the sheer volume of TV that some people watch...I can do it to a point, but not that much. :) I mean, unless it's a TV show about an issue, then it's easy to discuss. I understand it, but in the back of my mind I'm still thinking "this is way too much discussion for something that never happened, about people who don't exist".

Ooh, I hate her. I never watched North Shore, but on The OC, she was terrible. I tend to be more biased to haaate people with my name on TV, though.
I did enjoy the time she got into a catfight with Lady Heather at her bachelor party and they went into the pool. Probably because of my monster-sized girl crush on Melinda Clarke.

Let's see...being that there's a bunch of new spooky & alien type shows, I'm really looking forward to seeing which stick & which fall by the wayside. I can tell already that I'm seriously going to have some scheduling conflicts this coming season. Wish I could afford one of those DVR's from my cable company. Even with two VCRs, I'm STILL gonna have a logistical problem at some point or another.
New shows whose trailers intrigue me:
Surface
Invasion
Threshold
My Name Is Earl (saw the trailers during "Tommy Lee Goes To College"...this looks pretty funny)
Night Stalker (the original '70's show was great...the pre-cursor to the "X-Files"...I hope this one lives up to the standard)
Ghost Whisperer
Commander In Chief (two words...Geena Davis)
Returning shows I can't wait for the new season for:
Medium
CSI (the original one...NY & Miami suck...except I DO like Emily Proctor on the Miami one...hate David Caruso with a passion though; Gary Sinise's talent is wasted on the NY one)
Numbers
West Wing
Scrubs
AFV (always love a new batch of videos...I think Tom Bergeron is the best host they've ever had, but can we please get Daisy Fuentes to make at least ONE cameo appearance per episode?)
Reno 911
South Park
Shows that I used to hang on every line but now I've lost interest in:
Desperate Housewives (I missed a couple of episodes and just never could catch up...lost momentum)
Boston Legal (ditto...but still love Shatner's "Denny Crane")
Will & Grace
ER
The stuff I'll probably end up watching the most, though:
History Channel
Science Channel
National Geographic Channel
Discovery Channel
Animal Planet
Canceled shows I still pine for and wish would come back with new episodes:
X-Files
Twin Peaks
Northern Exposure

That one lost me in the middle of the season last year. I did read an interview with David E. I think she's just on the season opener. Fine with me because television is suffering from Locklear Overkill. She will always be Amanda Woodward the Superbitch to me.

I love Ally! The last two seasons weren't very good, unfortunately, but the first few were fantastic. I wish they'd put it on DVD, that one that's out with only a few season one episodes doesn't do it justice. I want the episode where Elaine was sued over the Facebra.

Really? She seems redundant, and doesn't get enough screen time to interest me. Regardless, this season was pretty funny. Nothing has measured up to season one, imho. The early episodes were the raciest/most edgy; this year was a little tame.

[QUOTE=hayley]Are you kidding?
Anyone who bitches about TV in a blanket statement-their credibility goes down in seconds to me.[QUOTE=hayley]
I totally agree with you! I would rather watch television than see half of what is being released in theaters right now. NEVER thought I'd say that!!

Granddaughter of Dino DeLaurentis. (But who cares). I want to strangle her with some linguini and stuff her skinny remains into some sheep's intestines and feed her to a hungry cobra. I followed Tony Bourdain to The Travel Channel and watch his antics over there. The food network blows. How many specials do we need on making salt water taffy for crissakes. It just shows the mentality of the viewers. How some buffoon yelling "BAM!!" every time he adds some GAHLICK to a recipe causes orgasms in the audience. :distress:

There's usually only one surgery scene per episode and they never last longer than 30 seconds or so. I just close my eyes if it's particularly nasty. There was one last season where they performed eye surgery on Rebecca Gayheart and I almost barfed. Anything that has to do with eyes makes me especially queasy.

The second season was even more out there than the first; it was pretty shocking. Famke Janssen, Vanessa Redgrave, and Seth Gabel were great additions in the second season, Roma Maffia got some more screentime to show what a fantastic actress she is, and Alec Baldwin was quite good. I really like all of the actors (except for John Hensley, I don't care for him much).

That's the reason why I like her (not the whining, we see the show dubbed and that aspect probably becomes less evident), but the control. While the rest of the cast is taken by a hyperacting fest.

Well this actors list is pretty impressive, I guess I should try again, I want to see what Vanessa Redgrave and Alec Baldwin have to do with this series. I forgot about Roma Maffia. Medium Goes 3-D
Patricia Arquette won't be the only one seeing dead people in her living room this fall, thanks to a two-hour, 3-D episode of NBC's Medium slated to air November 21. The depth-defying feat is the brainchild of series creator Glenn Gordon Caron, who's been thinking outside the box since his 80's tenure on Moonlighting. "I wanted to do a 3-D episode of that show," he says, "but the techonology didn't exist at the time. Technology has come a long way." One thing hasn't changed: Folks will still need to put on those kooky paper glasses- to be distributed int he November 21 issue of TV Guide- to get the 3-D experience. "The whole show won't be in 3-D," explains Caron, "but there will be 3-D segments throughout."

Just when I thought I couldn't ever be shocked again by this damn show, they shocked me. The violence was pretty alarming. I was caught off-guard when Matt beat the living **** out of the transvestite; it was quite surprising.

I watched it. Shamelessly manipulative, but I liked it anyway. :p Cried too, of course. Not sure that I'll make an effort to watch it every week, though.
Other new shows I've seen & impressions of them:
How I Met Your Mother - Funny, but not hilarious. Actors are likeable but writing needs to improve.
Ghost Whisperer - Ripoff of Medium, which is 100 times better. Slightly different in that Love Hewitt isn't solving crimes, she's connecting spirits with their families. The premise is good, but I don't like her in this show. Not sure why - she's kind of wooden. Also, I'd love to know how her & her character's paramedic husband afforded this enormous old house - a fixer-upper, sure, but still way unrealistic & it annoys me. Oh, her hair is bad too.
Supernatural - LOVE IT! My favorite new show (and I was not planning on watching it at first.) Very scary (not cheesy at all), cool special effects and good storylines. Oh, they guys are way hot too. :D
Reunion - boring boring boring. But I want to like it, I like the idea of it. I will watch a few more shows & see if the acting/chemistry improves.
The War at Home - It's OK, has its moments. Grounded For Life was WAY better though (I'm still pissed they cancelled that show.)

How do we feel about last night's episode? I thought the images of Van Gogh painting were fantastic. Other scenes were more difficult to focus on, my perception kept popping in and out of 3D. Maybe it is a limitation of this technology or you could learn to focus with practice. The axe in the back was quite vivid as was the reaching from the sack she was to be buried in. I thought they did a decent job with this. But for all of the hype there should have been more 3D scenes.

^ Agreed. I thought the ep itself was good (although did they ever say what happened to the woman they were initially searching for? The remains were her mother, but what happened to her?) But the 3D was kind of disappointing. The butcher knife & the paint at the beginning were the best parts.

It kind of sucked for me because my eyesight is so bad. I have way more vision in my left eye than my right (which is practically blind), so it was hard for me to see a lot of the scenes. The most vivid ones, for me, were the paint swirls on the television screen at the beginning and the cleaver flying at the screen. Pretty freaky. I loved the Rod Serling opener, too, that was great. And her husband is, like, the most perfect spouse ever created. I'm convinced of it.

I taped it. Actually, I taped the last three episodes and still haven't gotten around to watching them.
I don't watch many shows these days. Just Arrested Development, Medium, Lost, The West Wing, and now Bleak House.

Interesting. I don't think it will matter much to me, but they damn well better Leave Supernatural on the schedule & not screw with GG too much.
From CNN.com:
CW network to replace WB, UPN
CBS, Warner Bros. announce plans for new network to debut in September.
January 24, 2006: 11:41 AM EST
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Warner Brothers and CBS Corp. announced plans Tuesday for the creation of a new broadcast television network, called CW, that would replace the WB and UPN networks in the fall of this year.
The new broadcast network will draw on programming from both WB and UPN, and will be a joint venture between Warner Bros. and CBS (Research), with each company owning 50 percent, officials of both companies.
WB's 'Gilmore Girls' will be one of the shows on the new CW network, officials said.
"This new network will serve the public with high-quality programming and maintain our ongoing commitment to our diverse audience," said Les Moonves, the chairman of CBS, in a statement.
Prime time programming will target the profitable 18-34 age group, officials of Warner and CBS said.
The new network will broadcast such UPN shows as "America's Next Top Model," "Veronica Mars" and "Everybody Hates Chris," as well as WB programs "Beauty and the Geek," "Smallville" and "Gilmore Girls."
Warner Brothers Entertainment is a division of Time Warner (Research), as is CNNMoney.com.

Bridget's face when Ariel told her she'd get the top bunk! :D
That was awesome.
Bridget: Well what do I get?
Ariel: You get the top bunk!
Very cute.
BTW - I know earlier in this thread (maybe another, who knows) I put down Ghost Whisperer. We've really gotten into it, it's not really like Medium at all (therefore, not a total knockoff, lol.) Despite my minor annoyance with Love Hewitt, the writing is good & the effects are too. So there.
I watch this too. My mother made me give it a shot. And I do like it!
Shows I'm still watching: How I Met Your Mother, 2&1/2 Men, Medium, Idol, Gilmore Girls, Supernatural, Still Standing, Earl, The Office, Everybody Hates Chris, Ghost Whisperer, Housewives if I happen to be sitting at home with NOTHING else to do, Grey's Anatomy if I'm still awake.
I quit 2 1/2 Men last night, its the same show every week now. All low-brow humor like bodily fluids jokes and sexual innuendo. Which is fine but there should be some more depth to it! There was last season but someone made a decision to ditch the depth it seems. What a shame. So now I am watching Related which I really like. I'm not watching GG right now because AI is on against it. :(
I also watch What Not to Wear and have gotten lots of good tips from it. Two clothing items I've purchased have showed up on the show afterward! So I guess I've got it down.

Whew. I read another article on that CW thing that didn't mention any of the shows they'd be airing. I'm a huge Veronica Mars fan and the idea of combining two networks, and having half the time for programming was sounding ominous for our not so popular show.
I am such a TV ho. I watch Arrested Development, 24, House, Gilmore Girls, Scrubs, Lost, Veronica Mars, The OC, CSI, Alias, Grey's Anatomy. I'm trying to give that Love Monkey a shot because of my crush on Tom Cavanagh. I tivo the Daily Show and Buffy & Angel reruns every day too, as well as selected episodes of Alias. It's a sickness.

^ Good Lord, I guess I am too. I keep forgetting about shows I like until you guys bring them up! I still watch SNL & I LOVE Project Runway. Other shows that I like to catch when they're on (but don't watch religiously) are House Hunters, Flip That House, Moving Up, Dog The Bounty Hunter, Antiques Roadshow, What Not To Wear, Mythbusters & Queer Eye. I really got into The Closer this past year, and Rescue Me is good too.
BTW - Kevin Bacon is on Queer Eye tonight, they're making over his brother! :p I must watch to see if they'll show Kyra at all.

My "sometimes" shows are Queer Eye, Trading Spaces, Cops, Taxicab Confessions, and Intervention.
Thanks for the reminder on Kevin Bacon - how many "six degrees of..." jokes are we gonna hear?

dont watch TV as much as other folk do...
Let's see, 30 minutes of Full Metal Alchemist (Best writing on ANY show...and to think it's an anime), 30 minutes of Inu Yasha & occassionally 2 hours of Monday Night Raw...So I watch only 3 hours of TV a week nowadays (Excluding local news-Until the weather is shown...Got tired of VH1 Classic running the same videos on a weekly basis)
Btw, Am I wrong for hating the free subscription to "Entertainment Weakly" that has been arriving in my mail? I guess I can always hoard 'em just in case there is a great TP shortage in the near future....cause otherwise they may be used as litterbox liners.

How is Veronica Mars? I've read really good reviews of it recently and the guy who created it is from Austin

Veronica Mars is AWESOME. You like Buffy, right? I've noticed that the vast majority of VMars fans I've talked to are also Buffy fans. It's fast paced, quick witted, the acting is great, and the mysteries of the week as well as the overall arc of season one are fantastic. The first season is available on DVD, and I would definitely recommend checking it out. I just converted my best friend recently.

Cool. Yes! I want to start that series as well as Arrested Development. And yes, I LOVE Buffy. It was a brilliant t.v. show! I hear that Veronica Mars is very much like Buffy sans demons and ghosties. Too many series to start, too little time...
