Heard Lindsey's new track from "Elizabethtown"?

I was really blown away. Easily his best studio track in years.
Reminds me a lot of Springsteen's "Devils & Dust" album.
Really impressive.

How cool it is when one of your favorite songwriters and musicians finds themselves onto something completely new and fresh.

I feel like he finally pulled himself out of a rut. Almost like the Say You Will/Gift of Screws era is over.

Thought this wasn't coming out 'til Tuesday - where'd you pick it up?

It's his most touching track since Save Me A Place. IMO.

Beautiful especially live. But this song, as a studiotrack, has more warmth and is more vulnerable ( I did not know either that that was possible ) I described that in details in the shut us downthreads on lindsey's side.

And Come is fantastic, but I wouldnot call that song touching.

Save Me a Place is one of Lindsey's best songs. Ever.

I LOVE SMAP - LOVE IT I say :wavey:

This new one is just no grabbing me mostly because I am not fond of the vocal. Who knows - once I get the actual version of it, it may like it a whole lot better.

It's like shootin' koi in a pond with a shotgun, isn't it, David. ;)

It's like shootin' koi in a pond with a shotgun, isn't it, David. ;)Well, I thought gerald would laugh because he would say: HEY, wait a minute!! There wasn't any song between What's The World Coming To & this one!!

I employ a type of humor that relies on an ironic trope of reversal or undercutting: an example of this would be W.S. Gilbert's comment on Beerbohm Tree's performance as Hamlet -- "Funny without being vulgar."

To me, this is the epitome of wit, irony & subtle devastation; it sounds as if it were exquisite praise until ... a second or two later, it explodes into perfect disparagement: what could be worse than a funny tragic hero?

A boring antihero? ;)

Well, that's what I thought at first, but I said: "his most touching", and you said "his most important". That destracted me from the fact that it could be a joke..... HMM... I missed a joke. This board gets me on my nerves a little too much, I think.

By the way David, What do you think of his new song?

I bet you thought that SMAP was a whiney vocal at first too, back in 79...

This song has the potential to grow the same way.

I rememner hearing it and thinking it was as well. I still think that a little, but the nego spiritual harmony aspect of the chorus and the lyrics are so amazing

Yeah fantastic. So can't you imagine some same development for Shut Us Down?

PS: the only song between SMAP and SUD that comes close in "touching-ness" is Bleed To Love Her. (imo)

Maybe SYD will grow on me.

As for Bleed to Love Her - I think it is brilliant and the guitar solo at the end is one of the best things he has ever done.

I think his prettiest though from SYW - Steal Your Heart Away.

Lord Child - that man did shine on SYW.

The Dance version? Brilliant, simplistic, and lush. The Say You Will version? Boring, stiff, and way too much noodling. Less is more in terms of that song.

I mostly cannot stand his Dance vocal, but the guitar work is great. In the end though, I like the ending of the SYW one better - that whining and pleading guitar just does it for me.

But, I must say, it's really ..... ummm........oh, you can bet ..... for sure ... that this new song is .... uh..... I just can't quite capture what I feel...when I . uh.... hear it!

I like the SYW version better. The Dance ending....bleh...I don't like all those "Oh Oh Ohssss".

In my estimation, you use Socratic irony far more often and far more subtly.

How can the same song differ that much in appreciation when it's done SO closely the same. It's just a brilliant touching composition. Every version. I like the GOS-version the most, but either one is a masterpiece in songwriting.
