I am looking for an excellent quality live version of "Why" with the Rumours lineup. Can anyone help me out?

I have some live versions, but the quality is not very good at all.

Thanks in advance!

There's a live video version from Midnight Special floating around out there.

I have the video, but the audio quality is poor on mine. For sound quality, I'd go with the upgraded Trod Nossel Studios, Wallingford CT 9-23-75.

Of passable quality would be several of those rehearsals of Why for the rumours tour.

I can't remember offhand if there was a Why at the KBFH Yale Coliseum show, but there's a very nice quality Why from the upgraded Sausalito 1974 studio gig.

Any idea where I can get it? Does it have all 13 songs?

I just checked Brian J.'s site, and I can't tell if one of the two versions he has of this show would be the upgrade or not. One's rated "A," and I believe it's the same as the copy I have ('Who's The New Girl'), and the other is rated "A-". Neither says it's an upgrade, and he usually notes that.

I think the "Who's The New Girl" boot is the upgrade. That is of pristine sound quality, in my opinion. The only song it doesn't have is "Get Like You Used To Be". However, I have another Trodd Nossel boot that has it, but the sound quality isn't quite as good.

These are all of the live versions of "Why" that I have:

1974 Sausalito, CA
10/8/74 Hempstead, NY
10/10/74-Chicago, IL (very poor sound quality)
9/23/75-Trodd Nossel Studio, Wallingford, CT (2 versions)
10/5/75-Largo, MD (excellent quality video)
11/20/75-Winston-Salem, NC
1976 Midnight Special (very good quality video)
6/24/76-Milwaukee, WI
7/23/76-Cleveland, OH
2/25/77-Rumours Rehearsal
2/26/77-another Rumours Rehearsal
3/77-San Diego, CA
3/21/77-Philadelphia, PA

That's all that I have. There may even be a few more out there. The best versions, as far as sound quality goes, are Sausalito, Hempstead, Trodd Nossel Studio & the 2/26/77 Rumours rehearsal.

I don't know if it's the best version (probably not) but it's the first I've heard and is still my favourite.

To update your records, this concert was on March 10th. (I was there; it is my tape that is the source)

One helluva concert...wish I had the whole show.

Thanks, ChiliD. I'll update my records & thanks for taping it & sharing it. :) I've had that boot for several years now & never knew that you were the one who had originally taped it.

I didn't TAPE it, I just owned the one & only surviving cassette of the show that I copied for a couple of people, then they shared it with a couple of people and then somebody transferred it to CD two or three years ago and the rest is history.

One helluva concert...wish I had the whole show.Did you find your ticket stub? Back when you gave me a copy, you didn't know the date. You just knew it was early in the tour.

Also, did you ever get the CD someone ripped of it? I was supposed to mail it to you, but I think it was around the time you were really sick & I don't remember if I sent it. . . . I think Brian Johnson made nice CDs of your two shows & I was supposed to send them to you. Did I?

Well, you are helping keep the music alive, and thats what counts.

No, didn't find the ticket stub (all my concert ticket stubs I'd collected were jettisioned a couple of relocations ago)...2 things jogged my memory. 1) somebody's trade list listed it as October 3rd...which I knew was wrong, but then I figured out that they must have gotten it listed with the UK date style of 10/3/77...and 2) which triggered the rememberance that it was my pal Russ' birthday (which is March 10th) and, since my VW bus was broken down (for about the 100th time), driving my parents' 1973 Toyota Corona station wagon down to SD for the show...stopping for pre-concert joint & lines  at the rest area off of I-5 in the middle of Camp Pendleton. (statute of limitations has passed!! And, remember, it WAS 1977!!! ;) )

Yep, you sent the CD's (ya know, you could've just bicycled over, being downhill the whole way, and saved the $$ on postage).

Thanks, yet again...and thanks Brian! :wavey:

They came back to California for several shows before heading to Australia in early November. They played Santa Barbara Campus Stadium on Oct. 2, San Diego on the 3rd & UCLA on the 4th & 5th. That Santa Barbara show was the weird one where Stevie was laughing & then crying & then laughing -- she was having a dream-state. Those widespread Ralph Hulett photos from San Diego where Stevie has her fist in the air were shot at the October San Diego show rather than the one you got the recording of. The band are all dressed in their late-rumours-tour garb.

Yep, you sent the CD's (ya know, you could've just bicycled over, being downhill the whole way, and saved the $$ on postage). Now that I have a DVD burner, I'll send you a list of DVDs I can copy, & just check off the ones you want. I'm knocking on wood, because I was copying DVDs all last week of some newer stuff (neither you nor I would want) & I didn't have one single coaster! Not one burn went bad. This is a Lite-On brand recorder.

Not one burn went bad.

I've discovered something I've been doing wrong when burning...I was trying to burn at a higher speed than the blank disc can handle. (ie, the disc is rated at 40x max, I was trying to burn at either 48x or 52x) If I just have a little self-control and patience and burn at the rated speed, they come out just fine.

I think the "Who's The New Girl" boot is the upgrade. That is of pristine sound quality, in my opinion.I have a copy of 'Who's The New Girl' that I won in an eBay auction about six or seven years ago. It's good, but not what I'd call pristine. Would be awesome if there's an even better version now, as that's one of my favorite Mac performances.

Thanks for the info! :xoxo:
