A Rock Legend's Own USO Tour

The troops went gaga recently when Fleetwood Mac hottie Stevie Nicks showed up for a little morale boosting at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Insiders tell us that she showed up July 8 without notice, lugging dozens of T-shirts and Apple iPods to hand out to those she visited. "She even programmed them herself," says a USO official. Nicks is just one of the dozens of stars--most notably Cher --who have visited injured troops from Iraq and Afghanistan unannounced and sans paparazzi. Many are planning a return trip this week as part of the USO's huge fundraising gala to herald the work of "service heroes" and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Richard Myers.

It seems as if Stevie knows a lot more about technology then we think she does. I wonder what was on those iPods?

WOW - I hardly see La Nicks programming the Ipods herself - but she probably picked the songs to put on them and let someone else do the actual programming - I certainly would have

I imagine if you were down in the dumps and missing a leg with no family and someone famous pops in and gives you presents and spends time with you like that. Random acts of kindness are so telling of her big heart

That is just so great of her. What a woman

Yeah, can you really imagine her programming them? Hey maybe she did. Either way her heart was in the right place.

If she put rare demos on these, we gotta get a hold of them

Could you imagine stalking some poor soldier for the drum demo of The Dealer

P.S. don't anyone around here get any ideas

Do you have to actually program iPods? I thought you just transferred songs to them & push Play & the machine did the rest.

What am I missing?

She would have create the song lists, which doe a 1,000 or so songs could take hours depending on if she transferred them from CD's. Then she would have to transfer the list to each Ipod. It would take a few hours.

Number #321 of why Stevie needs to hire the Ledgies to help her out. Better tour books, Shirt Designs, and we could come up with a killer Ipod list! OOOOH! Special Stevie issue of the Ipod! Stevie Design with ALL her songs and demos! Where are her marketing people?!?!?! :p

OH - I thought ya'll meant she had to set up directories for each artist/album/genre, etc. The songs you download from iTunes are already coded as such, right?

Yeah - she probably picked the songs. But I'll bet Karen did all the real "work".

Did you load from CD's? I did and I did like 500 of them. It took hours. Then ome CD's did not list the names of the songs, etc. I took me awhile.

I did the same thing. Some I had on my PC, some I just had on discs and I had a LOT of cd's. It took me days to get it all done. But it kicks ass now!

I buy stuff from the music store and load them from CD's. Loading from Cd's is time consuming. But once you get them into your playlist then all you have to do is connect the iPod and download them, which is what she probably did.
