Anyone watching? So far the performances have been excellent. Did anyone notice the guitar player behind the dixie chicks that looked freakishly Gene Simmons (the guy standing up). This is a beautiful song by Sheryl Crow. I don't know it, anybody?
This is a great concert.

What song did the Dixie Chicks sing? Anyone?
I thought pairing up Mary J. Blige with U2 was really cool. That woman can really make you feel a song  Kanye West...should not have performed. Alicia Keys should've picked a song that didn't involve a three-way scream fest between herself and ..whoever she was singing with.
Jennifer Anniston's speech about the premature babies made me cry. As did many of the clips of survivors.

Um, I just saw Gwen introducing Duran Duran, who are doing Girls on Film.
And some time before that there was a Gwen performance. I'm pretty happy.
er...wait, am I watching something else? I dunno. Also, I haven't seen it, but I LOVE the Blige. MJ is the real shiazz. "MJB tastes good when it should" :)

AMBER! that "MJB tastes good when it should" is HAUNTING me. isnt MJB a coffee? thats an old advertising catchphrase, yessir!
right up there with "dont cook tonight, call Chicken Delight!"
and "call Roto-Rooter, thats the name, and away go troubles, down the drain!"
and Brylcreem "A little dab'll do ya!"
oh and "FOUR OUT OF FIVE DENTISTS AGREE" (I always wondered what that fifth dentist thought.....)
ah, the good old days......

I know! And that is always what I think of when I think of Mary J. Blige! She is magnificent, and believe me, I don't like much, if any, R&B, but I like her.
But still, that's what I think.
It's fine, though. I wish someone could take my initials and say "ACMACCG - it tastes good when it should"

there used to be a cigarette commercial "filter, flavor, something something"
I wanna say Lucky Strikes, but they didnt have a filter....
remember "101, they're just a little bit longer (101)....."
cigarette ad of course....in Those days, no one thought anything of advertising booze or cigs...........
ACK! "good to the last drop!"
Juan Valdez gets up pretty early in the morning to pick the coffee beans (but only the CHOICEST beans!)
OMG.......Im on a roll..........

You're watching the Fashion Rocks thing...the Concert for the GC aired right before it ;)
Thanks, Moon. Need that grounding force sometimes. ;) :xoxo: T.V. - so ephemeral and meaningless to me....especially with no Cable! ooo, now Macy Gray! this show is way better than the other one y'all were talking about. Although, Joss Stone is on now, just not singing SDMHA. She's singing some other more crapulous song. She is barefoot, though.

exposing ignorance here (its a KODAK moment) but the only time I ever heard Macy Gray was in the Spider Man Movie during the Multi-Cultural Celebration...
she sounded good, and I recall reading that she guested on one of Stevie's CD's (Trouble in Shangri-La?) (who has money to buy CD's? not THIS single mom.....)

um...
Dear Alicia Keyes...
Oh, nevermind.
My point is, I came in while she was singing:
"living on dreams, living on dreams, living on dreams"
I usually like artists who are varied in their style, but I go very hot and cold with Miss Alicia.
There's something very talented, yet a little POSEURISH, about her. Oh, and now Tyra just said "Lightening Strikes" while introducing Gwen....who is singing with "Puffy". God, I hate Puffy. He's So lame.
Okay, that's it.
Except that Gwen looks hot as usual. Much leg. I also admire her marketing skills.
T.V. sucks bun sometimes.

Ahem. she is taking notes from Madonna. Not a bad role model, but sadly, its been done. Twice. (if you count Cher)

LISA MARIE WITH BILLY IDOL WAS PRETTY AWESOME.
Yeah I'm a sucker for Billy Idol, and that song kicks, but still - There were really good rock harmonies, the band was very good, and LMP wore a black mini with a black bridal veil. LMP almost always looks pretty *rock* good.
She has that face. And I definitely like her voice quality.
Also Billy looked very good, in a weathered way *crush*.
I'm only *80's* human. I mean, I listen to Rebel Yell regularly.
(hi, Livia! :wavey: )
Great closer.

True, but I always maintain Stevie was the first, best, blond media whore.
Stevie was media before there was media on the enormous scale it enjoys now.
Stevie made people want to show videos on TV! Stevie showed everyone how beautiful a blond girl with some good lyrics and video effects, (Stevie/FM and Debbie/Blondie)
and most of all dancing, and flesh, could be. (okay, but really. Hello, Gypsy, Heart of Glass, thank you!)
From what I've seen, she is the most photographed/recorded woman ever. And without parallel the most LIVE PERFORMANCES recorded woman ever.
Madonna did many kick arse videos, and was everywhere, but she was never so live as Stevie. And she could never be, because she doesn't have a voice for it, and also because she mainly (almost solely) marketed herself in the media, rather than on the strength of live performances.
Stevie sang all the time, all around, with all the people. Stevie is a singer/songwriter/visually compelling/master of live performances/brilliant improvisationalist/ workhorse / - with colossal confidence.
Stevie is a musician, a vocal musician. And a good one. Stevie could work with live bands, Stevie made up crazy good *shmidt* all the time! In some periods every performance was different!
Madonna is a brilliant visual artist/fashionista, a brilliant marketing strategist, and a workhorse with colossal confidence. Her voice is good enough, her dancing/choreography is always a treat - is in fact often the best part. Madonna is a different genius, though.
But I really consider them part of different musical worlds.
I consider it a BLESSED MIRACLE that there is so many live audios/videos of FM/Stevie, since they were popular in a time when video/audio recording by the average layman was so primitive.
I always think of it as getting to witness genius in progress. And I mean that of the whole band, although Stevie's voice/movement is a mysterious compelling draw for me. :)
Okay, I'll hush.
P.S. I like Gwen way better than I'll ever like Madonna. She is more skilled in some special ways. Mainly vocally, live performance authentic wise, and lyrically for sure. Gwen is just overall more unusual and versatile and charming and talented.

yez........but: Cher was the first best female ROCKER.(who marketed herself. otherwise, that honor goes to Janis IMO)
Madonna learned how to re-invent herself from Cher.
Unfortunately for Madonna: there's only so many public lifetimes you can exploit. too bad.
I like Gwen ok but Cher is WAY better. Madonna is just a media whore.
Stevie on the other hand, has stayed consistent in her presentation.
She may have more lasting appeal, but her overall image has remained intact.
Which is why she has lasted. its a GOOD image...........some people need to re-invent themselves (Cher, Madonna) but others bank on their timeless image (Stevie, Janis, etc)
oh yes, the all important "IMO".........

Cher as a rocker? Well, admittedly, I am not familiar with the vast majority of Cher's work, but,...it's really hard to picture her as a rocker.
Stevie
Gwen
Madonna
Cher
I edited, (as usual)! Cher was the first female artist to market herself (including re-inventing herself).
Janis was the first TRUE female ROCKER. (point of clarification that didnt go from one page to another)
Madonna copied Cher's ability to transform herself...
but Amber is Right. only Stevie has been able to keep the attention of the massess for three decades WITHOUT changing anyting.
I cant think of anyone else that has been able to do that......
so: Amber: my apologies.

all of which are GREAT rockers but whose images remain static.
I admit I posted in haste but I think my main point (Madonna copied Cher) still stands. its a matter of opinion who you think is the best female rocker........
and I will defend Stevie as strongly as the next Stevie fan. There is NO replacement for Stevie, which in the end is the true test of longevity.

Madonna copied Debbie Harry, not Cher. She's practically admitted as much over the years.

Back to the Fashion Rocks thing...
What did everybody think about Gwens performance? I thought she did a really great job. "Cool" is a really wonderful song and I really enjoyed the performance. As for Duran Duran I enjoyed "Nice" more than "Girls on Film".
