I decided I didnt want to steal Wondergirls thunder in her thread, so I thought I'd post this one. I dont have any data that I've researched myself, but when I was out in Seattle in 2000, I talked to quite a few people that said that they were worried about Mount Ranier erupting, and that it would make Mount St.Helens look like a walk in the park. I havent been there since, and I havent read or heard anything that an eruption is imminent, so here's hoping that doesnt happen in any of our lifetimes. Has anyone heard much about this? I'd be curious to know.

It's considered an active volcano, I think the last activity was in the 1800s. I think most people here are aware of it, it looms over this area so it's hard not to think about it. I know a lot of people who refuse to live in the valleys around here because they are afraid of an eruption. I think Mt. St. Helens was pretty minor compared to what Rainier could do.
Here's a doomsday article David sent me... it talks mostly about earthquakes but also mentions an earthquake triggering an eruption... I think there's also a tsunami in there somewhere! Good article though.
