Any fans here? They did a free concert this afternoon in front of the L.A. coliseum in honor of the 40th year of the NFL. It was pretty cool! I'm not a big Kanye West fan (I haaaated that stupid Grammy performance where he busted out the angel wings), but he knows how to get a crowd going. The orchestral component of his music is kinda neat, too... he had a small group of classical musicians backing him. No political statements today... he said he was under contract :p.
Maroon 5 are a guilty pleasure (hey, Stevie likes them too  ). <STRIKE>Hottie</STRIKE> Adam Levine did one song with Kanye and then the band played 5 or so numbers from Songs About Jane. The Adam/Kanye duet was just weird, but the band's set was awesome. See them if you get a chance!
Some girl named Rhianna played too (she sucked - lipsynched almost everything), as did Good Charlotte, but I had to go to work so I left before they came on. I took a few photos if anyone's interested.

I know nothing of Kanye West.
Maroon 5 on the other hand... I heard "Harder to Breathe" and loved it. I heard "This Love" and loved that one too. So I bought "Songs About Jane" and... liked all of two songs on it.
If only I had waited until they released "She Will Be Loved" then I would have had the necessary warning to stay away from that album.

I thought I was the only one out there who haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaated his performance at the Grammy's. Crikey, it was unbearable. Not a fan, but he's got some good stuff that I kind of like. I do like that he's not your average rapper, he has more substance.
No comment on Maroon 5 or Adam Levine.

Hello Lover. <3
Maroon 5 is a great band. I need to listen to them more often than I do.
I switched back & forth b/t this & Big Brother, but I did get to see Maroon 5 which is who I wanted to see. I saw them when they toured this year & they are an awesome band.

GREAT pics, Tiff! I love Maroon 5. I don't know much about Kanye West's music, but I love that he had the balls to say what he said about Bush on live TV!

I like Maroon 5. And I even like Kanye's new song "Golddigger" (despite Jamie Foxx still trying to milk his Ray Charles impressions). Haven't liked anything else Kanye has done, tho - a little too self-important, or something.
And the angel wings weren't the only thing that made me  at Kanye's Grammy performance. Don't forget there was a coffin (maybe several) onstage, and that whole part where Jesus appeared in silhouette...

That **** made me wince. Seriously. But, then again, other than the marvelous and beautiful Bonnie Raitt, Franz Ferdinand, and Melissa Etheridge, that whole show was unwatchable. Jamie Foxx annoyed the **** outta me.

NFL kickoff show falls short at Gillette
excerpt...
Yet it was disconcerting to hear his name [Kanye West] booed loudly by Patriots fans who evidently didn't appreciate his nationally televised comment the other night on a Hurricane Katrina benefit that President Bush ''doesn't care about black people." The boos were thunderous and lasted for much of his number.

Yeah, I usually skip that song too. As Dissention likes to say, he sounds like he's got his balls in a vice. I thought the rest of the cd was pretty good though!

I must admit I love the song Pon De Replay by Rhianna. I think that is the same chick not sure though. I guess that song would be counsidered a guitly pleasure.
Maroon five is okay.
Not a fan of Kayne West but my brother is. He is into ALL rap...

No, I was right there with you. It was so tacky. I might have to check out some of his stuff though. He does kind of have that "intelligent rap" rep. I don't hate rap, I just hate when all they talk about is bustin' caps and pimpin' hoes.
Good ;).

Ha, that's funny. Totally different reaction where we were. People went nuts for him. The only booing was when he announced he was under contract to keep his mouth shut. Which then elicited cries of "say it, Kanye!" and "break it!"
I wish we had gotten Green Day! That would have rocked.

Oy, I can't stand rap for the most part. There's this one song by who the hell knows that goes something like "All you niggers die" and I just cringe at it in agony when I hear it. I think that one song alone soured me from rap.
After I got over Kanye West's ridiculously large ego and the unbearable likes of "Jesus Walks," I thought he was pretty decent. Not the kind of stuff that I would listen to every day, but he has a few good ones that make me pop in his last album every once and a while. Haven't heard much of his new album except for that Jamie Foxx thing (ewww) and the so-sweet-my-teeth-are-decaying song he does with Miss "I Don't Know Who My Baby's Daddy" Brandy.

He does! The thing that I found funny was that when they had that monstrous 5-Acts-On-One-Stage opening at the Grammy's, he was singing higher than Fergie was.

Thanks Danielle. It was probably the same person. She did like 4 songs... one of them sounded really familiar from the radio, but I don't listen to pop/hip-hop stations that much, so I don't know the name.

I heard about this on the news last night but missed the show. I'm not a huge Maroon 5 fan but I do like some of their songs and think they are a great band. I just couldn't see myself buying a Maroon 5 album and listening to it. I was however cheering for them to win best new artist at the Grammy's this year. They deserve it!
Re: Kanye West. I really go back and forth about this guy. Their is no doubt in my mind he has major skills when it comes to producing tracks. Musically he is incredibly talented, I don't doubt that for a second.
When I saw him on an awards show last year throwing a huge temper tantrum because he did not win I was totally turned off. How cocky can one person be? Talk about a sore loser! Thank God he won some Grammys so we wouldn't have to see another hissy fit.
As far as the rap scene goes he is one of the most political and intelligent people in the game today. He doesn't just rap about drugs and hos and gangs. He has a voice and a very opinionated one at that and for this reason I totally respect him (although I don't always agree with him). He has a reputation of being one cocky bastard but I can look beyond that because he really speaks to the people. He's controversial and I love that!
A couple of weeks ago he did an in-depth interview on MTV (did you know his mother is a highly respected college professor and Kanye is also an accomplished artist?) and spoke about the overwhelming homophobia in the rap community and about how he used to be homophobic as well but then discovered a cousin was gay and changed his views. He was basically asking the rap community to cut the homophobia and that took a lot of guts. He earned some major points with me for that!
