Since this is going around in a couple different threads I thought I'd start one on just this topic. If you had to pick one song you think she'll do what would it be and why? Then at the end we can see who was right :).

HAEWAFY - she said she wanted to do it for NYC on 9/11.
Interestingly, I wonder of Crowe or Buckingham will join her. Cuz ya know Mick is gonna be there

I think Landslide. I feel like she would to sing something mass numbers of people are familiar with. Then I think she will be part of a multi-artist finale. But I really think that would be it, even though I am hoping for more.

I think performing Landslide would be in very very poor taste.
HAEWAFY/DREAMS/RHIANNON would be a much better...anything but landslide.
PS- i love the song landslide, just not for a natural disaster benefit.

I dont get why everys so hung up on Landslide being offensive. I think Dreams with Rain washing you clean is far worse. Landslide talks about snow covered hills and reflections and hell sure Landsldies, but there werent any freaking Landslides in New Orleans, just lots and lots of toxic rain. Landslide to me wont be remotely wrong to preform.

I can bet with most confidence.....It will not be STORMS ;)
don't think Landslide either (also not appropriate)
Sara with the "drownding" line...nope
Boy when you think about her songs and lyrics there sure is a lot of references to:
rain
wind
sea
ocean
river
twister
even in The Nightmare she sings about a hurricane (although she didn't write this tune-it deserves mention)
With that in mind I think she will sing a new song that she will have written for the occasion-like Illume for 9/11
only this will be for the Katrina Survivors...
That's my story and I am sticking with it!

I was thinking about this last night...Stevie has never gone out on a limb on stage, it's just not her way...she sticks with the songs that she knows work. I highly doubt you'll see her pulling pulling "Sleeping Angel" out of her back pocket, but that would be my wish...
If she does a short set, I hope she doesn't open with "Outside the RAIN", and "LANDSLIDE" is just another natural disaster, "Silver Springs"?not with the 'ocean crashing' line, "Stand BAck"? naa..'it's alright to be standin' in a line', they did enough of that,
I think she's only left with Dreams, Rhiannon, and HAEWAFY

I totally agree with everyone's summation: HAEWAFY (most likely), but if she wanted to take it in a different direction, Stand Back would rock, EO17, would also rock. I think the reason some people feel it would be in poor taste is a landslide is a destructive force of nature.
During a landslide homes slide down just as peoples homes slid into the Gulf. The visual imagery would be too painful.
No it wasn't a landslide in NO, but still it would rub a lot of people the wrong way. Twister and Storms would also be inapproprate. But most fans know it is unlikely that she would perform either of those two, but Landslide has a good possibilty.
America is watching this one---not just SN fans.

Yup - another vote for Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You.
I really, really hope she doesn't do Landslide. Don't care if it is about snow covered hills, or mud consuming life (as in a real landslide) - wouldn't be appropriate.
So, HAEWAFY... or a cover not yet mentioned here.

Ok after seeing the first few acts in this benefit there is no way she's doing Stand Back. They are all doing slow, emotional songs. She'll do something touching. Stand Back is not touching. Looks like HAEWAFY is the best choice at this point.

I think Illume would be GREAT and appropriate. A chance for something new from her (to the public) and basically what she wrote the song for...surviving a great tragedy. Even the mood of the song would be appropriate.
That's my vote as unlikely as it is.

My initial reaction was, she can't do Illume. It was written about New York City and Sept. 11th. But, actually, the words really would be quite relevant. All the stuff about coastal cities and rivers... I guess the question would be whether Stevie would be comfortable taking a song so clearly written for Sept. 11th and singing it in response to another tragedy. Know what I mean? I tihnk it would work perfectly well - and certainly there are millions of people who have no clue it was written in response to Sept. 11th. They might think she whipped it up just for Katrina. But I guess it's all about whether Stevie would feel comfortable doing it.

Well she is supposed to sing a heartfelt tune, so I would say she will probably sing Has Anyone ever Written Anything For You or Landslide( to the discussion about natural disaster songs, it does not matter, people are not going to look for disaster related words). But on the radio they said Fleetwood Mac was going to be there and I think Sara would be very appropriate and I would die if they did it.

HAEWAFY--hands down :) IMO Landslide doesn't fit........it's too much about herself........ Although the When the rains come down--there's no pain and there's no doubt (HAEWAFY)--kind of doesn't fit either...... hopefully she will surprise us all and sing something totally unexpected......... I think she will do 1 song and then everyone will do a song together at the end...... Is this going to be broadcast does anyone know???

Illume would be good, but how well would it transfer to stage?
Didn't they have a lot of studio enhancement and technical stuff on that one?
Maybe I'm wrong...
With the Stand Back... Nah, I just don't think she'll do an upbeat song at all.
Maybe she will. Maybe they'll try to make it upbeat, but I just don't see that happening.
What I feel they may end up doing is taking a song... something in the league of "Lean On Me" and breaking it into parts (as someone mentioned before).
But... the question is...
Will there be a DVD or CD?
I think there probably will be since they're trying to raise money.
I hope so!
Maybe a single of the hypothetical group song?
My vote goes to "Beautiful Child..."
Although the lyrics don't fit the situation, it's a slower song that doesn't mention natural disasters. :p

DR was not good live. It was okay in Pittsburgh, but I'm glad they dropped it. It just droned on and on....and her vocal was too too too low. It's one of my favorites on the CD, too. Too bad it didn't translate well on stage.

They were playing it for the audience IMO. Someone said here once that their off stage chemistry is little to none (emotionally) these days. Stevie and LIndsey knows what works a crowd and what doesn't. Don't compare SG to SS, becuase SS is a masterpiece compared to this.

Well, those same people that said it was there in The Dance are mostly the same ones saying it was there in the SYW tour  I mean La Nicks was clearly playing to the audience with SS because she essentially did the same schtick every night, though I thing the emotion was true. Personally, I think they have their love affair on stage just as they say. Other than that, I keep my visions to myself.

They sure were. Everything is a rehearsed roadshow, from the speeches to the movements to the embarrassing "Landslide" pandering. That's not to say that they don't have an emotional investment or feel what they're singing, but it's still one big act that they put on because they know it pleases the crowds.
Having said that, "Say Goodbye" is perfection, definitely one of the highlights of the tour. "Silver Springs" should have never been brought back, it paled in comparison to the amazing renditions of it on the '97 tour.

Exactly! Trust me I don't think they have some secret feelings still lingering and are longing to be together again but I think for those few moments when they are on stage singing their songs to one another the emotion is real. And of course they are going to play it up a bit but it still enjoyable knowing the history between them.
FYI Jimmy you are right - SG does not compare to SS but I was just using that to point out songs they have written for eachother and performed together.

Well Say Goodbye they just looked at each other. if I stared at someone dead in the eyes for that amount of time it would look emotional too.

So do you think the '97 versions of Silver Springs on The Dance tour were a "rehearsed roadshow" or do you think there was real emotion behind it?

I think it was both, just like I think the Dance and SYW versions of Landslide were rote, but full of feeling. I think this is what they mean when they say "love affair on stage."

Both. Her conviction in what she was singing didn't waver, but that doesn't mean the performances were any less rehearsed and consciously crowdpleasing.

Bingo. Which is why I laughed everytime Lindsey gave his prewritten speech before WTWCT lamenting the loss of spontaneity of all things!

Did you guys ever see that tv performance of Silver Springs on some talk show in Holland I think it was? That is seriously my favorite SS performance ever. He walks over to her at the end and she bows her head down to him and it is just so incredible! I've never seen anything that intense between the 2 of them in recent years. I would love to believe that that emotion was real, even if it was onstage and only for a moment.

I thought Red Rover was incredible. it was Say Goodbye that I couldn't stand.
It's funny, I thought Red Rover was okay, until I heard it live....then it really really grew on me, I love it. Although, I have to agree, to hear Illume would have been great!

OMG yes and I totally forgot about that part of it! She messed up big time and missed practically a whole line where her mouth wasn't moving. Poor thing I guess she got caught up in the moment and forgot the words (yeah ok).

I didn't like Say Goodbye live for one reason - unless you're a huge fan & have the SYW CD & know the words, you could barely make out what they were saying at the shows I attended. Great for me, but I wanted the whole audience to know what an emotional song it was, rather than use it as a beer break.

Ooooh you are so fired! That was one of the best performances of the whole tour. How could you not love seeing Lindsey sing directly to Stevie the song he wrote about her and their realtionship and her intense reaction? That is so personal for both of them. Kind of like Stevie singing Silver Springs to him.
I agree 100%. Red Rover sucks. I always skip that on the CD. Say Goodbye kicked ass.

Most definitely 'Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You'. Beautiful. :)
Most likely but she needs to change the end a bit. The stuff about the men in her life *cringe* being legends and all that won't seem right.

Stevie will stay in her comfort zone!

Let's combine these two and have her do a Led Zeppelin (version of a) song that would be potentially offensive:
"WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS"
It is innapropriate because it would serve as a Metaphor for disaster & havoc.
In that setting it would not be perceived as a little ditty about romantic love.

I think Illume would be GREAT and appropriate. A chance for something new from her (to the public) and basically what she wrote the song for...surviving a great tragedy. Even the mood of the song would be appropriate.
That's my vote as unlikely as it is.
If Stevie were to ever perform Illume 9/11..
It would have been on SYW Tour! She is not going to take a risk and pull it off now by herself..she will stay in her comfort zones now till the end.

My vote is for HAEWAFY and I am thinking she may also do "Whenever I Call You Friend" with Kenny Loggins since Loggins and Messina are also on the bill for the benefit.
Krista
That would be a miracle. I dont think stevie could handle all those high notes now. They did not part as friends anyway..he has never been kind about her in past interviews. Melissa Manchester wrote the song and was to record it with Kenny..at the 12th hour the record label said she was not a big enough name..so Stevie was hired.
