As I was flipping through the channels I saw that Oprah was in New Orleans. She went into the superdome and I was so sickened by it. I couldn't believe how bad it was until I saw it with my own eyes.
Anybody else see this?

I'm watching it now and it's amazingly well-done. I was jumping for joy when she aired that story about the man who was reunited with his dog, but crikey, that family that Lisa Ling interviewed had me weeping. Jamie Foxx had some very interesting things to say, too.

What did he say? I knew she was going to cover this, bless her.

I saw and learned more in that 1 hour of Oprah then I have in the hours and days that I've been watching CNN!

He said that he was most disturbed and affected by the "blatant disregard" of the people who couldn't do anything to help themselves, like an 80 year old grandmother he saw in a wheelchair who was left to die. :distress:

If I watch it at four, do you think I might break into uncontrollable sobbing?
Is she in NO? Or in her studio with flashback footage?

Most definitely. I did. I think it's amongst the rawest coverage out there.

No, she's at the Astrodome in Houston. A lot of the footage is from talking to people there and from Lisa Ling walking the streets of New Orleans and talking to the people down there who are separated from their families. There's one piece from Nate the carpenter dude that'll break your heart.

Great show Oprah! I hope after all is said and done we can all turn to our own communities and do whatever we can to make sure this never happens again. It is not acceptable that people are wheeled into a makeshift morgue to "die in peace" because the resources are not there to do anything for them. I only wish that everyone would quit playing the blame game long enough to realize that but for the grace of God this could happen to any one of us, regardless of our economic status. If anything good comes out of this mess it is that we don't ignore these same conditions in our own communities and volunteer our time to make a change.

When Nate saved that man's 14 year old dog by taking it home with him until the owner was safely relocated--wow--that had me streaming tears. It was a great hour. Often too shocking to contemplate as that Doctor was dealing with the dead bodies.

I don't like Oprah, but her coverage of this is exceptional. I recommend giving it a few minutes at the very least.

You don't have to be an Oprah Fan to be touched, sickened and amazed at today's show. I feel like a different person for watching it. It put this whole disaster in a tight format that you can see, feel, and even smell. It's not easy to watch in some parts, I will say that.

It's the rawest and bravest coverage I've seen yet.

I'll look for you, but I know there's video from the show on her site. She started the show by saying "This country owes these people an apology" and I knew that she wouldn't hold back.

I am watching it...The raw footage is very similar to what I saw 10 years ago in my own backyard (Except for here in OKC the celebs did not want to be identified nationally for helping out in the aftermath of the Murrah Building attack.)
Heartbreaking to say the least...
"What's the World Coming To?", I'm afraid to find out.
