I read an earlier thread about some people not liking Everyday and especially the "I close my eyes it gives me hope" part. You know what? I was just watching the video and Stevie could have been singing her recipe for Fleetwood Mac Party Dip and it would have still sounded wonderful. Her delivery of that part is so honest and sincere, it still makes me weep. And the strings and lush arrangement. I'm sorry if y'all don't like it but I do. I just wanted to defend this sweet little song. :)

I hate the song. She sings it in her granny voice, so I think she sounds awful. And the lyrics are nothing special either. But that's just my opinion. :)

There is so much emotion in that song; I don't know how people don't see that. And that is one of my very favorite Stevie voices, too. She sounds very sexy in it.
And please don't think I'm being an ass, but I have to say that it's "Every Day," not "Everyday." "Everyday" means something different. I'm an English major so it's one of those things. ;)

The lyrics are bland and I tend to not like songs where the singer is so needy, but I think it's a pretty tune. A little too Adult Contemporary for me, but with Stevie singing it I don't mind. And the video is beautiful!

I also loved her live performance of it on Rosie. I thought she sold it to the back row, esp. the end when she threw her arms up after the bridge and into the chorus.
I like the song.

I cant listen to it mostly because of the dronning vocal at the start of the song. That lower register just grates on me. Shoe does manage to recover though about midway thru the song and the strings are very nice.
I really liked it live though.
The video, Oh gawd what were they thinking? Doesnt match the sentiment of the song at all and the rats on the dinner table were rediculous.
Too bad cause she does look really good in the video.

The song had to grow on me. I can tolerate it more now than at first.
I agree that in the video she is absolutely gorgeous but still don't get the reference to all the weird images like the rats, people in the trees with masks on, etc... Kind of felt more like a "Eurythmics" video to me. What were they thinking when they made that video? I would expect more of a relationship type video showing a couple or something.
She does look great in that peach/pink dress in the video though.

I couldn't dissagree more about the live part It translated really well on stage,
The part right after she sings "it cures the silence......" got really quiet, and the crowd at both shows I heard went nuts.! LONG LIVE EVERYDAY!

Hell yeah. Like I said before, she came back with some really strong songs and then that dud was released to radio, making her transformation into an AC grandma complete. Whoever had the idea to release that bland turkey to radio as a single was higher than Whitney after a freebase weekend with Bobby.

As much as I hate to say it, it wouldn't really matter what stevie released for radio, if your not the "hot thing of the moment" radio couldn't care less. I think say you will was VERY "catchy", VERY "Comercial" and VERY "radio friendly" , but
was again wasted on radio that just threw it away :distress: . IMHO......

I love this song. I reminds me that my Mom finally decided to like a Stevie song, and she gave Stevie a chance. Now Mom's got cancer, and when I hear this song I am going to think of the day we painted my apartment, and heard TISL for the first time. "Every Day" isn't going to rock your socks off, and why should it, anyway? It should have been pitched better to adult contemporary stations. I do not think I EVER heard it on the radio, and I know people my Mom's age (late 60's) would have enjoyed it.

It was nice to hear this story. I think I am also attached to this song in a simmilar way. My mom loves this song and the first time that I heard it was when she sent it to me when I was living in australia (VERY far away) and My mom sent this song to me with a tape of her singing along and deticating it to me. It may sound cheezy, but it was special.

"Every Day" is an innocuous enough little song. It'll never be one of my all-time favorites, but I still quite enjoy it... especially the verses.
The Adult Contemporary genre isn't all bad, and most of Stevie's '70s and early '80s fans are the ones listening to the AC stations anyway. She had much stronger material on 'TISL' than "Every Day," but I can't imagine any of the tracks getting much more airplay than "Every Day" did as it is.

I usually reserve my wordiest essays for the unappreciated songs Stevie herself wrote.
With a few exceptions ("Talk To Me" being chief among them), the songs she has covered by other songwriters, are usually ones that, even though I love them quite a bit, I'm still not too deeply attached to them emotionally.
If it helps, I do have a sweet memory attached to "Every Day," because Anne and I had been listening to it on repeat (at her request) the day I met one of the Ledgies here. So even though it doesn't relate to my friendship with him in any way lyrically, hearing it brings me back to that day and having the song stuck in my head when I met him. :)

I like it too...I mean, it's not the best to me on the album, but it was the first TISL song I heard via an online source before it was released and something about the "I see you" "I need you" parts really ring in my ear and I think it's a enjoyable song. I really really REALLY think POTU could have done SO much more for Stevie and TISL had it had the right promotion - a freakin' video and some live performances...but oh well...

Thank you for the correction on Every Day. That was karma biting me on the ass because I tend to correct peoples' English all the time. LOL!
I think the idea behind the video was that she was supposed to be immortal and the men falling asleep at the table with cobwebs on them was supposed to show that. It also seemed like a fairytale where a princess is cursed that all the men in her life are doomed to sleep forever, or something like that.
I really think that the director had a fetish for sleeping guys. This is a real fetish and I'm sure that creative people tend to insert their fetishes into their art, wether it's intentional or not.
I haven't seen the Rosie clip, is it online somewhere? I'd love to see that. And when she did it live in Orange County last year there was this wonderful moment of silence when she said "It cures the silence" and then the place erupted. So yeah, that's a pretty cool song to see live. I was with a very close friend for that show and I put my arm on her knee when Stevie sang it because it sort of made me think of our friendship. I know, schmultzy but it's true.

You know, I never thought of it that way until I read your post and rewatched the video. Good interpretation.
Now, is it just me or when the couple dances in the video, the dance move reminds me of the dance move in Gypsy between Stevie and Lindsey when the video is black and white in the speak easy. But maybe that is just my imagination ?

Nah, I think it is intentional.
Stevie talks about TISL as her masterpiece. I would think that if she chose to put Every Day on the album, it must be meaningful to her in some pretty profound way. I know there was some agreement with John Shanks to use his song, for his producing, blah blah but she did sing it with conviction and talked in that one interview about she could have easily written the song and how she relates to the lyrics.
Tiff posted an awesome interpretation of Every Day a while ago. It included everything even the black swans and such. I remember reading it and completely agreeing with her interpretation...and understanding the video concept much better. Maybe she can post it again or I can search for it. I believe it was based on a poem or story. Hawthorne perhaps? Anyone remember?

Was Every Day a cover of an existing song or did the writer just give Stevie a demo? It would be cool to hear the original version.
