You can help with the Hurricane Katrina disaster
Volunteer
Many of the people displaced by Hurricane Katrina have been moved to Texas. If you would like to donate or volunteer for the Texas efforts, see the One Star Volunteers page.

I thought it would only be a matter of time before something like this showed up. I'm not sure how much it will honestly do, but of course the more resources that are out there for people to learn how to help the better. I hope links like this are also showing up on other artists websites (and I'm sure that they are)

Do you think there's any chance of her/the Mac doing one of the benefit concerts coming up?
I know it's a horrible time for her. Just wondering out loud.

I think she might surprise us and do something...a concert, or donation. She is a caring soul.

I would like to add a positive note here, to any who want to listen. Without finger-pointing, blame-assigning ANYONE! The efforts that have been made by Texas, not only by major cities such as Houston, but many of the smaller border towns to Louisiana, have been exceptional. My hometown of Beaumont opened a number of shelters which have accomodated more than 35,000 displaced and homeless. Hometown doctors and nurses are volunteering in full force to assist with medical care. Clothing, food, formula, diapers.....even luxuries as cigarettes have been donated. A local attorney has purchased an entire apartment complex to house families in need. Many local families are taking people into their own homes. Even our hospital nurses have served as transportation, to and from, the shelters.....The astrodome in Houston is housing over 250,000 homeless...and plans are in the works to possibly open the Reliant Center as a school for children who cannot return home to New Orleans, Biloxi, Gulfport and many other cities afffected. Please, please, please....for any who have influence...encourage those who have time to complain to volunteer their time. If they cannot come personally, they can spend their time collecting much needed items for these people to send. Complaining, whining, blaming are counterproductive in any situation....and have no value in a situation there is so much need for compassion. JMO, may not be of any value to anyone here but me....but I had to voice it. :)

Texas has been amazing in this - Texas really saved the lives of tens of thousands of those poor people. Other states have contributed as well and I do not mean to slight them. But, Texas just grabbed the bull by the balls and God bless them for it.

I think you should march down to the rescue center closest to you and tell the people there that their complaining and whining much less shrieks for mercy for five days were counterproductive and they ought to just be thankful and quiet. Better yet, find one of the mothers who watched their baby die in their arms and ask them why they were/are complaining, help eventually came so they should just be quiet. Do you not grasp that these people were screwed by our Federal government and they and most of America are pissed off about it? Do you not also grasp that if people do not complain, W and his cronies will get away with yet another large scale f**k up and without these complaints they would have done as little as they could. So, I will complain until I am red in the face thank you very much.

Am I missing something? Did Stevie actually express her opinion on Katrina or write something about the disaster?

I don't think so. I think it is a Nicksfix thing and not a letter from Stevie, herself.
