Sorry, but y'all know how I am when I get mad sometimes. I just got off the phone with my mom. She had to go to work, which is ridiculous but that's another story. One of the teachers she works with a is F*CKING MORON. This is what she said

"God was doing house cleaning in New Orleans because you know all those people there are heathens who live the good life too much and He was just cleaning house! It's just like Sodom and Gomorrah; they got what was coming to them."

Now, I know there are some idiots here...okay, lots of idiots. But it astounds me that people would say things like that outloud. It confounds me to try to think of what kind of sick mind would even think such thoughts.

I was happy that my mom spoke her mind to a degree because she told the woman that if she 'actually believes that there is a god that is capable of happily doing those things' then she doesn't know 'how she could function on a day to day basis knowing that about her god.' The woman just said, "That's just my theory." I really, really want to slap her. I am not a violent person at all and have never slapped anyone but there are some people that I want to slap and she's on the top of my list right now.

There were people at my mom's work who have relatives who are now homeless, and there are people who are not sure if their relatives are alive or not. Many of the teachers cried at school the entire day. And that woman can stand there and say that ****.

Some bitch at my work was talking about that too, saying how the sinners got what was coming to them. The gem of the story is the new girl heard the bitch talking, and whipped around in her chair and said "Since we're talking about sins, let's talk about how you need to tone that bronze hair! That's a SIN!" Apparently she has friends in NOLA, and doesn't appreciate the condemnation from some hick Minnesota Lutheran with a bad dye job.

I about fell out of my chair laughing. Now the new girl is my new favorite.

Just watched a TV report where some overseas are saying we caused this disaster ourselves by causing global warming

Believe me, If I could cause a 'disaster' I would cause my eyesight to go just as I was entering Hugh Hefner's Playboy mansion, So I would have to retort to feelin' my way around...Well, Maybe that would be a blessing instead of a disaster wouldnt it? Oh well...

Mine too, I love that new girl. That's a horrendous thing to say. :distress: This storm did not discriminate and took good, bad, whomever. Besides, its the visitors who are the real "sinners". Most people there are just living their lives as normal people do!

Hill, when I saw your title I figured it was something really bad for you to come up with that, and it is. It does make you want to smack 'em for sure.

I had someone tell me the exact same thing almost word for word. They are pea-brained, uneducated, thoughtless people that have no idea the intensity of what they are saying. You must realize by now there are 5 idiots for every person with any amount of sense in this world...just keep on going and don't let it get to you.

But those are some depressing numbers you presented there. If you ran into someone as well then there must be way, way too many people running around saying stuff like that. One is too many.

There's speaking your mind and there's common frickin' sense. LEARN IT PEOPLE.

Yes, all Muslims are terrorists.
Yes, all black people are criminals.
Yes, all white people are racists.
Yes, all New Orleans residents are sinners who deserved this, sinners only live in New Orleans, ya know.

This lady thought God said "Trains...this way."

:distress: I'm sure my grandma is peddling the same s**t. When the tsunami happened I heard she said "God was angry with those people". She thinks just because she sits her butt in a church pew every sunday and coughs it up for the collection plate that she's the flippin right hand of god. It's because of crap like that I've had nothing to do with the woman for 6 years.

Kudos to Hillary's mom and "New girl", the world could use more of them

Joni Mitchell might have been describing people like that, when she wrote "The Magdalene Laundries":

They wilt the grass they walk upon
They leech the light out of a room
They'd like to drive us down the drain

I talked with her the rest of the afternoon. It turns out Nancy, (the new girl) is pretty damn cool, loves Stevie, and wants to have drinks with a few of the lucid ones around the office. You can't argue with that :)

Tactless, mean spirited, and moronic - what a combo. I can't believe someone in LA said that, especially. I can't bear what's happened there, and I've never even been there. I would think someone from the state would really be mourning. What was one of the greatest, most unique cities not just in the U.S., but in the world, will never be what it was. Millions of people are enduring extreme hardship, hundreds are dead, thousands have lost loved family members and pets.
The only thing that "caused" this was nature, a bit of global warming, and a very ill advised location to build a city all coming together in a terrible way.
I can't believe some others of you have heard people say that as well! I feel blessed, you'd really have to go out of your way to hear someone in this state saying something like that. Sheesh.

some people are just idiots...if she had family that lived there then she would be singing a different song.

This lady is a ****ing moron...even if one were to consider her way of thinking...then what about all of the churches and "good bible thumping christians" that lived there and lost their life?

It is a stupid statement...and I just pray to God to show that lady what real love and compassion is!

I can't believe someone in LA said that, especially.Yeah, that makes it even harder to take. It's just as bad when someone says that the tsunami was God being mad at those people but you can see why people say that--they're racist and/or it hasn't happened close enough to their home for them to be able to understand. It doesn't justify it in the least but you can see how when something like that happens on the other side of the world, people are more inclined to say ignorant things because they just can't wrap their minds around it. But this is easy for us here in LA to understand. This meant devastation of some kind to our families or at the very least our friends and/or acquaintances. The fact that someone can be that close to it and know well how real it is and still say that is astonishing.

some people are just idiots...if she had family that lived there then she would be singing a different song. I think so, too. But it's sad how some people are so heartless that the only thing that would really make them feel is if it had affected their family. It shouldn't have to take that much. :distress:

which is a shame!Yep. There are lots of good Christians on the Ledge (and everywhere) who, obviously, cannot be put in the same category as that woman by any stretch of the imagination!

You hit it on the head there...it shouldn't have to take that much...but I'm afraid in the world we live in now...it does!

I hear ya. I have met SOOO many true and wonderful Christian people in my life...who truely had been touched by the life and message of Jesus...which is to LOVE! I try very hard to live my life by those standards...wish more of these so-called "Christians" would open up their hearts a little more and their "Christian rule book" a little less.

This is such a ridiculous and hateful statement, but the irony is that the people in New Orleans hurt most by the hurricane are the poor. They lived nothing close to the good life, and probably were the most church-going folk in the city.

Indeed :)
I see many people who have no clue of what the big picture is at all. The entire point of Jesus was love, there was a reason the son of god was born into what was considered the "scum of society". Every time someone is quick to judge and point fingers at someone they find "beneath them", all they are doing is crucifying him all over again.

hi - i don't post much (i'm 'posed to be workin') but i had to put my two cents in. i'm an unpractising catholic (catholic school for years, nuns the whole nine yards). but i am a christian person. and i've learned, in my 40 + years, that being a christian isn't going to church everyday/week it's how you act outside of church. this disaster down south has broken my heart.

I thought the Christian God was an all-knowing all-forgiving god? I didn't know he was an angry vindictive punishing God....sheesh...glad I don't follow that religion...any God who would kill innocent people isn't someone I would worship...I would run like hell from a god like that...

The ironic thing is, didn't the early pagans believe that if a natural disaster struck it was a result of "angering the gods?' or if your crop failed or whatever it was because the gods were punishing you?!!

I have always heard that Christians were "just this side" of pagan. I guess that would explain why some believe in this evil punishing godhead as their Lord.

My boss made the same statement yesterday and I just kept my mouth shut because I thought if I spoke, I would explode (tomorrow is my last day at work, but still-no need to explode). I was surprised to see all of the posts here with other people saying the same thing, I thought it was just my boss's maniacal thinking.

You're right, anybody who thinks that way is a sick f*ck. What's so holy about having no sense of humanity, or even basic empathy? I wonder what she's do if her family lost their lives in some natural disaster? Probably revise her "theory" pretty quickly!
