I need to get this off my chest

Ok, I have a problem here. I just went and looked at my aol email and I recieved an extreme vicious email from someone commenting on my going to hell 666 post. Whoever this individual is said that no one cares about my posts and I'm a fat ugly faggot, (Sorry I had to put that in there, but thats what he or she said) and that they saw me in Vegas with a shisrt that wouldve fit me like 10 years ago. This really hurt, and I have no idea why whoever did this would do something like that. I know sometimes I post stuff that people donet respond to, and he also said the only reason I post is to get my #'s up, which is not true. I really enjoy coming here and talking with all the people here, but I wont put up with annonymous emails from people that have nothing better to do than to be hurtful to others. Whoever you are, I would appriciate it if you would come out and identify yourself, because it really takes alot of balls to do what you did you SOB!!! :mad: I'm sorry to be ranting like this, but I try to treat people with respect, and I would like the same in return. It's just very hurtful, and I wont come in here if I'm going to get talked to like that. Disagreeing with someone is one thing, but this is totally different. I mean I'm not an ass am I?

I'm sure most ISPs wouldn't appreciate someone using their services to harrass someone like that, and it might be against their terms of service or something. Make sure you save a copy of the e-mail. :)

I would contact Yahoo and find out what they can do. The person obviously created an e-mail address for the express purpose of harrassing you.

Thank you AMber, I really appriciate it. I havent been coming in here long enough to know who some of these people are. I guess the fact that I'm open and honest about who I am and my life, seom people are threatned by that. It makes me think more and more about that song Vanessa did during the stevie tour where she talks before the song about this song being for those of you who are in relationships that are not approved of by you or the government. By the way, anytime someone receives harassing emails such as this, you should always make sure that you report the abusive email to the proper channels (AOL, Yahoo, etc.).

And if the "in-house" Ledge messaging system is EVER used for threatening or harassing messages, please make sure you report it to a moderator.

All I can say is that it was rude and crude, but, it happens all the time on the internet, unfortunately. Some of the folks who've been on the Net for a few years will remember the time the Nazis posted on the old Fleetwood Mac newsgroup. Some actually started using my screen name to post as me, using a lot of the same phrasing I use, and even my signature, but they said things that I'd never say. Luckily, everybody figured out early on that it wasn't me posting, but the newsgroup was never the same afterwards.

I've struggled with that myself. I share a lot of who I am with my friends here and when things like what happened to you happen to me (they have a couple of times) I start feeling guilty and questioning whether or not I should be so open about my beliefs and who I am. I think it's worth it to present yourself honestly and without reservations. I think that's a more fulfilling way to be than hiding things in fear that something like this may happen. When people do say inappropriate and cruel things, I find that I can't help but be hurt and/or angry, but I've found that the more I deal with the craziness of the web, the more I grow accustomed to immaturity like that. You will bounce back quickly, too. :nod:

As long as you've covered yourself as far as security and privacy goes and reported it as you should, I wouldn't think twice about it. I don't know how many of you have been faced with discrimination, but being caucasian, female, straight...I didn't realize the impact of the statements until I was a victim of it myself. When I started in nursing over 16 years ago, I had been assigned a black families daughter to take care of in labor. I noticed that the atmosphere seemed a little tense, but I did what I could to make everyone feel comfortable...offer extra blankets, allow more family in...make coffee...hand out snacks and soft drinks...please, thank you, etc. After about two hours, they said "Look, you seem nice, and it's nothing to do with you, but we'd rather have a black nurse" I was left dumbfounded...the only thing I could say was "I'll do what I can to find one available, if that is what you want". Called somebody in, changed patients...all was good. But that situation so many years ago left me changed for the rest of my life. I knew about prejudice and bigotry...but until I experienced it for myself, I never fully understood. When they left the unit, they thanked me for my help and said "We hope you understand". I understand now....DavidMn, you have been a wonderful person here...I can't wait to meet you in person...don't give anyone with this kind of mentality the time of day!!! Love ya!
