Police: Rap mogul 'Suge' Knight shot in leg
Witness: Shot rang out at party's VIP section

Sunday, August 28, 2005; Posted: 3:44 a.m. EDT (07:44 GMT)

MIAMI BEACH, Florida (AP) -- Rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight was shot in the leg early Sunday during a party hosted by Grammy-winning hip hop artist Kanye West, police said.

Knight, 40, was hospitalized in good condition, police said. He was shot during a celebrity-studded party at the Shore Club, one of the many celebrations in Miami Beach ahead of the MTV Video Music Awards scheduled Sunday night, said Miami Beach Police Officer Bobby Hernandez.

Sonja Mauro, a guest at the club, said a shot in the party's VIP section rang out shortly before 1 a.m.

"I was in there and I heard a pop and I ran out and got trampled," she said.

People attending the party began screaming and running for the doors, she said.

Celebrities who attended included West, actress Jessica Alba and comedian Eddie Murphy, but it was unclear whether they were still there when the shooting took place.

Knight co-founded the pioneering rap label Death Row Records and hit the charts in the 1990s with West Coast stars including Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur.

Knight was convicted in 1992 of assault and weapons violations and was placed on probation. In 1996, he was jailed for five years for violating probation after he and several associates, including Shakur, were recorded on videotape beating a gang rival at a Las Vegas hotel. Shakur was later shot to death in Las Vegas.

Relatives of slain rapper Notorious B.I.G. have also accused Knight of involvement in B.I.G.'s death, though police have never named Knight as a suspect.

Knight continues to operate his label, now called Tha Row.

Attempts to reach a spokesman for West early Sunday were unsuccessful. A message left with an MTV representative was not immediately returned.

I'm going to flip it on a couple of times in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the Madonna documentary and to hear the clip of her new single, but otherwise, fug no.

Don't even bother trying to get the clips of her new single online, they're all fake files. I must have downloaded 30 different ones.

I'm really sad I don't have MTV, because I want to see the Gwen show tonight..... :D

on perez..
"Gwen Stefani, the most nominated artist at the MTV Video Music Awards, was set to boycott the ceremony because she was not bestowed a performance spot. However, Miss Estefan(i), as we shall call her during this weekend, was spotted at the Ritz on Saturday, and an MTV insider insists that she will be performing at the ceremony after all!"

I would have been upset if she didn't perform, too.

RE: Suge Knight - why am I not the least bit surprised? That's so typical...

I am defintely watching the awards tonight. Lord knows they are not what they used to be, they are very hip-hop oriented but I'll still tune in for sure and look forward to chatting about it tomorrow. I miss the days of Madonna rolling on the floor to "Like a Virgin". They sucked big time last year but I still want to see.

Why the leg or ass? That man is HUGE - I just don't see how anybody aiming from even 50 feet away could miss. Not that I'm condoning that, of course, but it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Of course, the cynic in me wonders if it all could have been a PR stunt. First lesbian kisses, now gunplay. Next year: lesbian gunplay.

Crappy was a harsh word. It just seems so teeny-bop to me. She went from a rocker to that and it wasn't pretty. I must say "cool" redeemed her. I have no clue why she would do a song like hollaback girl.

I would love to see her do Cool too, but I really don't see it fitting in at the VMAs. It's on the subdued side, and I can't imagine what kind of stage show she could do for it. I love the video, too. I always thought she was pretty, but she looks freekin gorgeous in every shot.

I really hope she performs. I have to say I've really fallen in love with her since this album came out. She kind of bugged me when she was with No Doubt. I mean I think they are a really really great band and I dig some of their songs but something wasn't right. After I got her solo album things totally changed and now I'm in love. I may even try to grab some tickets for her show with The Black Eyed Peas here in LA. I don't go to concerts too often (with the exception of La Nicks) but I think it would be great to see her with those cute little Asian girls. I love the costumes, the dancing. I could go on and on. She rocks and I'm buying a pair of her L.A.M.B sneakers and soon as I save $125 to pay for them.

WTF was with MC Hammer doing a 2 minute routine?

WTF did Jessica Simpson have on?

WhyTF did Eve Longoria come out in a fugly bathing suit?

WTF is up with Shakira? She is hot as hell, but she moves strangley.

WTF was with those clowns rapping?

WTF was up with Eric Roberts plugging his stepson's CD?

WTF possessed them to refer to Hillary Duff as "rock's Beyonce?" Really, she's a rock star, huh?

WhoTF is Daddy Yankee & why are they singing about Gasolina?

WhoTF is Bishop Magic Don Juan?

Could Paris Hilton have looked any uglier? WTF was up with the old lady hair? And her & Bow Wow comparing "bling" or "ice" or whatever the kids call it these days - really tasteful, with the hurricane & the war & other "petty" things going on.

Trapped In the Closet
From Bill Lamb,
Your Guide to Top 40 / Pop.

R. Kelly's 5-part mini soap opera

In June 2005, R. Kelly released to radio the first audio sections, or songs, of his 16 minute 5-part mini soap opera. The songs became r&b hits and generated even more interest as accompanying video became available. With the release of R. Kelly's latest album TP.3 Reloaded, a bonus DVD is included of all 5 video segments. As TP.3 Reloaded registered sales of almost 500,000 copies in its first week, "Trapped In the Closet" has experienced a resurgence in popularity...and discussion about its content.

"Trapped In the Closet" parts 1-5 may be among the most unconventional hit songs ever. Each part of the saga is a dramatically performed reading of the story over a minimal pulsing musical background. R. Kelly himself portrays all of the characters.

Controversy has erupted centered around the content of "Trapped In the Closet." The story details a tangled web of extramarital sexual relations. Along the way closet homosexuality, gun violence, moral standing of clergy, judgement of others in relationships, and violation of personal property are just a few of the issues that make an appearance. Some individuals have expressed concern over the frank sexuality discussed in the story while others are concerned about the negative image of the clergy promoted by the song suite.

Aside from the controversy and attention, is "Trapped In the Closet" art? Despite his sordid history and current indictment on child pornography charges, R. Kelly is clearly among the most gifted songwriters and performers currently recording. It's nearly impossible to avoid being pulled into the story with a carefully constructed cliffhanger at the end of each chapter. Like some of the best soap operas, "Trapped In the Closet" also provokes laughter at the near absurdity of the tangled web portrayed. Finally, the issues touched on by the 5-part suite are serious indeed and the drama is likely to provoke needed discussion. Despite any personal opinions about R. Kelly, it must be conceded that "Trapped In the Closet" is likely to stand as a popular music landmark.

The best way to experience R. Kelly's dramatic creation is to view the videos back to back. They are available, as mentioned above, on a bonus DVD with purchase of the album TP.3 Reloaded. Alternatively, they can be watched at R. Kelly's official web site. The complete story line of "Trapped In the Closet," including plot spoilers is available at Wikipedia.

Hell nooooo. I was hoping this was just a bad joke. Just goes to show people will buy/support anything their favorite celebrity does. I do respect the fact that it is art but back to my original point of MTV having the gaul to show R. Kelly waving a gun on tonight's awards is unforgivable.

After reading this thread, I'm very much relieved that I stuck with my boycott of all entertainment awards shows. Just out of curiosity, why do you people watch this crap? I mean, you know it's going to be bloody awful and even if there is a performer you like, you have to suffer through god-only-knows how much BS just to hear one song. It's just not worth it.

Talking about masochims, but completely off-topic otherwisely, I watched the first episode of the new Dutch Big Brother series. The entire episode.

I was with friends! Could hardly walk away from them, could I? hum.. uh..

Nothing compared to Gordon and Joling. Although I'd love to see Kees Prins and Michiel Romeijn do an impersonation of that couple........
