View Full Version : Job Woes

I need to vent so watch out.

I have been working my job since 1998. I worked from July to November. I delivered pizza and was horrible at it. I was only 20 and the guys all treated me like some whore. They did horrible things to me and on my last day, someone threw a bucket of water at me. I walked out and didn't go back until May of 1999. My job had just closed down so I went to Dominos so I could go to school.

In late 2000 I decided to become a manager in training. I never did to go school and by then I just thought I needed a higher position. My home life couldn't be worse so I just needed something positive.

That lasted about a month. 60 hour weeks and 16 hour Saturdays sucked so I quit for a week and they begged me back...so then I just was a shift runner.

In 2001 I changed stores when my store just became too unbearable. Since I ran shift, it was all I did with a driver's pay. I couldn't afford to live anymore.
THis new store I drove for 6 months straight and then ran shift for 6 months while driving. I made the best money. In 2002 I was moved to my old store as a manager in training again. I drove one day a week. I was making more money but my manager was a bitch. She totally backstabbed me as much as she could. She was fired and instead of giving me the store in 2003 this guy got the store. He was incapable of wiping his own ass so I got alot of power. I ran the store pretty much but he got all the credit and money...so finally in 2004, I got my own store.

I worked 60 plus hours a week for a salary and bonus. At first, it was ok, but I was so tired and worn out.

But now a year later I no longer get a bonus. I am over working 60 hour weeks. The kids that work for me all hate me and plot my death all because my assistant manager never makes them do anything, so I am the bad guy. He also never gets yelled at by me but he hates me too. I kind bent backwards to make things good for these kids but I find they are all quitting because they hate the job so much. I am left confused and hurt.

I was **** on the entire way to getting my own store so when I got it, I promised to be really nice to everyone, give everyone what they want...but in the end, I still get **** on.

So now I just want to start over, not work with 16 year olds, not work for owners who talk to me like I'm still a child ( I'm 27!) and work only 40 hours a week.

But for now, I am so hurt and Im so tired...
thanks for listening.

I'm so sorry. You have an amazing work ethic, you should not be in a job where various factors make you feel that way. Personally, i think you should definitely leave the chain. I have more stuff to say, but it's late. Just wanted to let you know someone cared. :)

That's really terrible.... its sucks that people are such ass-holes. I can relate in some aspects... i've always been the doormat for people, its the price you pay for being a decent person i guess. People who you think are your friends let you down & stab you in the back.... this is why i stay away from most people, i'd rather be alone than in pain & feel like a fool.... You're obviously a nice, hard-working person, your best bet is to get outta that job ASAP, or you'll get stuck in a place that you hate. Right now, my mom is trying to get out of her job & work somewhere else, the people there treat her like **** too.... its hard to see her so unhappy :( I know its hard to go somewhere else when you've worked there for so long, but you definitely shouldn't stay in a place where you aren't appreciated, cause no matter how much harder you work, it won't change the minds of those ignorant, ungrateful jerks that you work with. Stay strong... you will find a way out of that hell hole

Janet, I hope you find another job soon that's much better (well, I think most jobs must be better than that!). You working your ass off in such conditions should count as something when applying for other jobs, I think.. good luck!

Time to dust off your resume, Janet. Get out of that place before it kills you. You clearly have a great work ethic, and valuable retail management experience. But there is no need for you to be working hours like that in conditions like that. Think about what kind of stores/businesses you like to shop in, and try to find a job in one of those. It will change your work experience greatly. There is no need to to work with people who are mean, disrespectful, etc. They are clearly unhappy - they don't need to crap on you. We spend a lot of time at our workplaces - a huge chunk of our lives. They should not be a source of misery.

Good luck to you.

Dang woman, find something else!! I worked at the damn Dollar Store for 4 days and the day before I quit, I went home crying. It's NOT worth it!! Find something you love!! I work at home (although, I live at home too, and don't make much a year, but I'm content..finally).

It's not you, it's them. These people working today, who are mostly teenage kids and young 20-somethings expect to be paid to do NOTHING. There are hardly any people today who have work ethic, it seems. They all probably hate you because you make them work and that's ridiculous.

Seriously, you should not be working your a$$ off to get no respect.

That sounds awful. I hope you find a job you enjoy more. It's just not worth it to work all the time and be miserable. :)

janet...i hope everything goes as you wish...

recently they hired an interim guy for my boss who left after 5 years...well...on his first day he was hands-on, and started with the "whats wrong with my computer bit" while he leaned back in his chair and i had to lean across the pig to fiddle with his mouse! i wont go into every little f'ed up thing he did over the course of three days but the last straw was when he whispered in my ear "i dont like the pencils you are using, the erasures are too HARD."

needless to say, I had his ass terminated that day
