Did anyone else watch this two part doctumentary on the National Geographic that aired last night and concluded tonite? (It is currently being re-broadcast in its entirety)
It was rather brutal to see the images of 9-11 again...But seeing how the terrorists masterminded the plot is even more disturbing.
If you watched it what was you opinion?

It's still so disturbing....that day is still so vivid in my mind. I'm sure it will be one of those "Do you remember where you were and what you were doing when JFK was shot?" kind of memories for our generation. (Both incidents span my generation) My best friend called me..."Do you see WTF is going on?" Yeah...we were both off work that day. My daughter's boyfriend was on medical leave from the Army with a broken back lying on my couch in the living room. I woke them up....when he watched w/eyes glazed over from pain, pain pills...he said "I've got to go back"...got dressed, got in my car, drove a mile from the house and blew the engine in my car trying to make it back to Fort Polk, Louisiana in record time. I have a whole different opinion of this war and our military because of my closeness to the situation. Is it possible to be on the fence about this one? Sometimes I'm torn between loyalty and conscience. I can see all sides. My daughter married him 10 days later, Sept. 21st, believing that he would be leaving for war. My stepson served in the military for 6 years. My brother is a retired EOD "frogman" from the Navy, 30 years. I watched him drink bottle after bottle of whiskey night after night recalling the events of the Vietnam war. Five year olds coming out of the darkness of the marsh, armed and ready to kill. His best friend getting his skull blown away just moments after relieving him early from his watch post. The American flag he carried with him, blood splattered, in memory of his friend.
I'm going on and on....sorry....This special is just bringing back feelings, old (some very old) and still fresh and raw in my mind. Just as I'm sure it is for others.

I heard about it but didn't get to see it. I'm sure they'll replay it again.

What does your brother think of this war? I am always curious about vets' opinions. I'm sorry he went through all of that. It is amazing that he even talked about it. It shocks me that you could think for a moment this war is just after what happened to him. It is not related to 9/11 no matter how much the administration tries to sell that it is.
I missed this documentary, I bet it is an eye opener. That day was really horrific. In such a way that words cannot describe. My little cousin had just moved to Long Island and she said there was funeral after funeral for her friends' parents and relatives. Just awful.

I saw inside 911 the other night, unfortunately I was so tired that night I feel asleep through the last 30 mins...It was actually kind of interesting to have a film like this that was not biased, and just really going in depth into the terrorist network itself--especially Osama Bin Laden... It was very interesting I though.

I stayed up till 2AM this morning watching all of it. I cried and I got angry. I couldn't watch when they showed people jumping or falling. :distress: I got chills listening to some of the audio of the hijackers and I REALLY got chills when they said that kid in school said to his teacher before it happened "Those towers are gonna fall soon." I got chills just typing that out! Also, seeing the survivors talk about what they went through, it just rips your heart out.
I remember where I was and not being really scared until my boss came in and said "A plane just hit the Pentagon." then I started shaking. I remember looking at the calendar on my desk and it said 9-11 and looking at my co-worker with fear.
I got so angry too because I will NEVER EVER understand prejudice and hatred. Where do these hateful men get this idea that they are above everyone else in the world and can take innocent human life expecting to be REWARDED for it!! It's just a concept I'll never wrap my brain around. :(

I thought part 1 (I taped part 2 last night...haven't watched yet) really magnified the fact that our (the US) leaders are really clueless  ...and THOSE were supposedly the "intelligent" ones  ...NOW look who we have leading (ahem...using the term extremely loosely) and what shape we're in.

Of course, most of the men in our family think that it was the right thing to do. There are so many things that we are not privy to....so many things that our military KNOWS and cannot share. On one hand I believe that if my son-in-law is ready, willing, and anxious to put his life on the line to defend our country from threat, either real or perceived, then I fully support him. On the other hand, I just say "how ignorant is this?"...which as you can imagine, does not go over well. My brother was a career EOD Naval guy...his loyalties run deep...he would not appreciate it if I didn't support our military. His uniform is in the National Naval Museum w/a bio. He's the most intelligent person I've ever known. Vietnam did a number on him, as it did many. But it stirred a drive in him to be the best. He became an EOD instructor, and from what I understand, very admired and respected by his peers. Most soldiers you talk to know why we're there, understand and defend their actions. I can't tell you how many times I've been told.."Nobody really knows, except the ones who are there and those in charge, what is really going on. There is a reason." They say revenge is a dish best served cold...I feel like there will be significant events to come...just not in the time-frame we would like them to be. Just as we were caught off guard...
Death and destruction in the name of God seems blasphemous.
So, like I said, which side of the fence do I fall to? I only know that whenever I see a soldier in uniform, I make it a point to shake their hand and thank them for their service. They deserve that, and more.

as people were shown falling to their deaths, That is still the one thing that bothers me even to this day in regards to 911...I hate when they show that footage .
I found what OBL thought to be the differences between Radical Muslim Terrorists & the US to be rather errie:
"We love Death, The US loves life
Thats the differences between us..."

I missed Part 1, which is the part I really wanted to see. Then, I tuned in last night (thinking I was watching Part 1), and got sucked into Part 2. It wasn't anything I hadn't seen or heard before, except for a few things:
1. The FOX cameraman who was filming from the plaza below the towers right after the impacts. The MUZAK was still playing over the loudpseakers in the plaza, and they left the audio in the show. It was eerie, as the footage has a built-in soundtrack. The cameraman was also the one who got a lot of the footage of people jumping, and the MUZAK can be heard on those shots too.
2. The guy who tried to climb down the side of one of the towers from one of the top floors, using something from his office as a rope of sorts. It looked like he made it about 1-1/2 floors below the window he climbed out of, which I thought was pretty amazing.
3. The "chirping" sound coming from the rubble of the fallen towers, which was the sound of the firefighters' emergency locator beacons. I had read about it, but never actually heard what it sounded like.
Now, just have to wait for a replay of Part 1 - that's what I really wanted to see - the history of how everything came together. Part 2 was pretty much just a gruesome rehash. And I'm sure they'll play both parts 20 or 30 times before 9/11/05.
By the way, did you folks know that the new season of Family Guy premieres on Sunday, 9/11/05? If that's not a big F-U to the terrorists, I don't know what is.

Yeah, they showed people falling, but not crashing into the ground, thankfully. I was afraid they were gonna include that CBS (I think) footage that was taken inside one of the tower lobbies, where you can hear the impacts of people hitting the pavement outside... :distress:

(The CBS footage) and it was absolutely disturbing...I believe that footage was from the doctumentary that 2 French brothers filmed about life for a rookie firefighter at local NYFD company, Not knowing their filming of small drainage fire that morning of Sept.11 would show the only known footage of American Airlines Flight 11 impacting WTC...The echoes of hearing"Holy ****...Holy ****" still echo in my mind of that footage (Not as much as hearing bodies from above smashing into the roof above the head of the firefighters in the lobby....The firefighters didnt know at first what that sound was, When they did realize what was making that sound you could visably see the disturbed looks in their eyes.)
The doctumentary these 2 French brothers was the best 911 related doctumentary since it was not initially about the 911 attacks.
Btw, Another part of Inside 911 (Part 2) that bothered me was the ending where the official heard FBI agents said another "911 attack may be needed to finally end the terrorists reign" (Or something to that extent.)

I really enjoyed it, as much as one could "enjoy" a docu. about 9/11. It was very interesting and did a great job of relating the times and different places and people...and what exactly was going on. It's so heatbreaking, and yet at times listening to some of these peoples stories...it gave me hope you know...hope in the human spirit! There are still good people in the world..and they were there in NYC and Virginia and in those planes that day! The people who died and the people who risked their lives helping others they didn't even know...wow! I thought the show did a great job of showing that, the humanity, along with the facts.

OH yea...I forgot about the part about the people jumping from the windows! OMG! I really started to cry...I got a lump in my stomach, I actually felt the reality of those people jumping...the images...the sounds...the screams!
