I know not everyone will have an opinion about this, but what the hell.
I've had a chance to travel quite a bit and I wanted to share my favorite 3 cities in the country I've been to. (Besides Minneapolis of course, which will always be #1 for me :) )
#1.Boston. Besides being the home of my favorite baseball team, Boston has so much to offer in such a small area. I mean, I can walk around there for likesd weeks at a time and never be bored. The Boston Common alone, along with the public garden next to it are top places to see, along with the freedom trail. And then there's the FOOD!!!!!!, a subject very near and dear to this fat fag's heart....(6'4, 265) The North End, OH MY,the best Italian food I've ever eaten bar none. And then there's my other fav, seafood, or is it see food? The Union Oyster house, along with many other establishments have been eaten at by yours truly, and they've never dissapointed. Boston, #1
#2. Pittsburgh. Everytime I tell my friends this is one of my favorite cities to visit they look at me weird and say "What the F**K are u talkin about?" I say to them "You need to enlighten yourselves.." Pittsburgh is to me one of the most picturesque cicites going. You've got the 2 rivers coming together at Point State Park, a place I always spend time at when I'm in the Steel City. Then there's the Baseball park, PNC Park. The finest sports venue in the country in my opinion. You can look out over the right field fence and have the river and downtown right in front of you. And as far as food goes, mmm those Primanti brothers sandwiches. with the meat fries and wahtever else they can stuff into them, this is not for the clogged of arteries. Pittsburgh, #2
#3. San Diego. To me, bar none the best city in California. It never seems to ever get above or below between 65-75 degrees, and the Gaslamp district is a real treat with it's many great resturants. Also, a very safe city to talk in at night, and least in downtown where I was. Oh, and San Diego is also the first place I ever saw Fleetwood Mac in the front fow in 2003. :D San Diego, #3.
So there's a little sampling of my opinions, for whatever that's worth. And, no I dont work for the travel channel........ HAHA  PLease feel free to share your opinions as to places youve all been to

pittsburgh kinda makes me want to die. :x
i've lived here all my life. i love certain parts of the city, like the south side, and squirrel hill, but other than that, ergh. i've lived in cranberry, zellienople, bellevue, and sharpsburg, and i didn't really like any of them that much. i guess since i've lived here so long, i just don't get it. to most visitors, it's like, the most amazing thing ever because we have so many hills. haha.
i will admit, the local music scene is pretty good. and the billions of record shops. but, i still prefer cleveland and philly, so yeah. we do have eat & park here which isn't too bad for cheap food, but i cannot stand primantis. i also hate the steelers. i am obviously not a real pittsburgher.

it is. if you've lived in a city your whole life, you're allowed to have whatever opinion on it you'd like. :D
i just never understood why everybody thinks it's so great here. maybe it's just the parts i've lived in, but i've been everywhere in this city, and it's just not my cup of tea. it's like there's a code for each part of the city - there must be 3 pizza shops, 10 bars, and a church within a 10 mile radius of the next burough or whatever. there's some cool stuff in pittsburgh, don't get me wrong. one half becoming one gigantic shopping mall, and the other half is going downhill by the minute, give or take a few small communities.
oh yeah - favorite cities?
1) cleveland
2) philly
3) DC

Chicago. Los Angeles. St. Augustine. Those are probably my top three.
I must say, though, that I do like Lexington quite a bit. Although not large by any means, we have some good restaurants and shopping and plenty of performing arts. I know many people do not enjoy "college towns," but I think the university adds a great deal to the community. Plus, I think it's beautiful....from downtown to the horse farms you'll see by driving just a few miles out. :)

Favorite Cities:
1. Boston. I agree with everything that you said DavidMn! I am very lucky however because I live about an hour away by bus, car or train. As a matter of fact we went there last Sunday all over The North End. We went to G'Vanni's which had a pretty good lunch special and then we went to Mike's pastry. :) We also got caught in the thundershowers all day. We also went to Downtown Crossing and I got a pair of fabulous clogs.
The Saturday before we went to The Natural Museum of History at Harvard.
You are right when you say that you can never get boarded in Boston!
2. Philadelphia. OK this city gives me kind of the same vibe as Boston even though I have not explored it as much. It is only an hour away by plane.
3. New York City. I love going there. So much to do but $$$$$. I met a nice person on the train when I went in July. He told me a bunch of fun things to do that don't cost a lot of $. One of them was to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and enjoy the great yet cheaper food there. We were only there for a short weekend so we did not get a chance to do it but maybe in the fall we will try it.
Maybe we can all post a fun place to go or see in some of our favorite or not so favorite cities. I am always looking for places to take some nice photos.

Out of the cities I've been to, Austin is the only one I could live in, so I'm going with that as my choice.
Dallas & Houston...blech...I hate the fact that if you're gay, you're pretty much relegated to the "gay ghetto." New Orleans is nothing to write home about, outside of the French Quarter. My native Shreveport is rightwing Southern Baptist territory, and I can't believe I survived being a gay adolescent in that place without at least attempting suicide.
Until I see something better, I'm staying right here. :D

I have to concur with Macfanken regarding Vegas .It's ok for about 48 hours and then I feel this urgent need to make it to the airport.Really it's more an amusement park for adults than a city though and when you leave the strip it looks like characterless suburban sprawl.

I have a completely different perspective of Vegas. I have a fantastic time when I'm there, and I take in as much as I can without getting too loaded so I can enjoy the experience more. Alot of people I know tend to go full throttle when they go to Vegas and need to return quickly, understandibly. heh.
I'm not sure SF would make my top cities.
But at least compared to Sacramento and LA and Vegas, it's Shangri La, so it might be better than other cities, too.
I'm just really, really mad at the weather, the homeless poeple, and the bland, square houses stacked on foggy hills in the sunset and down by Ingleside. Ticky Tack indeed. Also at the exorbitant rent.
But, Golden Gate park and Presidio Heights national park are cool.
Anyway, I really, really want to visit Austin, I heard it's a great city. and
Atlanta
I'd like to go to Boulder

Columbus, OH.
I adore this city. So much to do and see...I like that it is a "smaller" big city, without huge touristy things and such. But it is so clean and is growing at a very quick rate. Beautiful neighborhoods like Victorian Village and German Village, great restaurants and art galleries in the Short North, shopping at Easton Towne Centre, shows in the Arena District. Love love love it. I always said that I had no desire to stay in Ohio, but I'm really looking forward to living full time in Columbus after graduating.

I want to give a shout-out to Chi-Town (Chicago), because I feel like it's being somewhat neglected on this thread compared to other cities.
So, to plug the Windy City:
We experience all four seasons here.
We are on one of the Great Lakes, and have a sandy beach for summer fun.
The Magnificent Mile, where Stevie loves to do some serious shopping!
The Art Institute of Chicago, the Field Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Adler Planetarium, all easily accessible by public transportation and fairly close to each other.
Tons of music & theatre, and great restaurants! There is a plethora of things to do here every day and night of the week! :wavey:

So what's the deal?

I want to give a shout-out to Chi-Town (Chicago), because I feel like it's being somewhat neglected on this thread compared to other cities.
My kind of town...CHICAGO! :blob1:
Although I am getting tired of the long winters... :distress:

That's part of it. Really, though, when people talk about how hip Austin is, they're really only talking about downtown and South Austin. If you go north of the UT campus, it's suburban sprawl everywhere, with Wal-Mart SuperCenters and tacky chain restaurants. And I just think, eventually, that's going to creep down into central & south Austin, too. And the Republican soccer moms & dads will follow.

Yep. I can totally see that. Too bad, but at least one cute gay couple is moving into the suburban sprawl. :p But usually, if you have a campus there, there will always be a certain hip thing. I like that. I've only actually lived near campuses, at least since I moved out of home. :)

ITA! But you forgot to mention the plethora of furniture stores in North Austin...what's up with that?? LOL I rarely venture north of campus - except to go to my dentist (183 & Duval) twice a year for cleanings.

There are a lot of furniture stores, and they seem to always be going in and out of business. I have no idea what that's about.
Confession: I live in North Austin. Mainly because the house I'm renting a room out of is less than 5 minutes from my job. When I move again, I want to move South or Central. I hate living up here!

Let's see ,I was 12 when my super progressive parents moved me out here in the 1970s so they could join a hippie commune(I guess this apple didn't fall far from the tree ;) So alot of the tourist type things I have never really done here like the cable cars and Fisherman's Wharf etc. There are still alot of neighborhoods in SF with their individual charms .North Beach, Chinatown ,The Castro ,which I don't go to that often being kind of a Folsom street type but is nonetheless entertaining for an out of towner.Like Amber mentioned Golden Gate park and the Presidio are nice and if you've never seen Redwood forests Muir woods is right across the GG and the wine country is gorgeous if you can make it up there. Of course there are innumerable great restaurants and to me the weather in the city is great .Like perpetual springtime.

I'm a lifelong Angeleno, so I have to say that Los Angeles is absolutely awful. I really hate most of the entire southland -- what they call the Basin. It's a pressure cooker of people & development & madness, & tranquility is relegated to a few scattered spots, like the Huntington Museum in Pasadena or the Arboretum in Arcadia.

I love San Francisco... i have lots of great memories of the city, i get kind of sentimental whenever I'm there. It's one of my top three favorites... along with New York and Seattle.

Yeah, the congestion, out of control homeless problem and housing prices detract from a beautiful city... similar to the problems we have here.

Actually I have never even been to Seattle or Portland! but from everything I have heard about them they'd probably handily make my top 5.

I was in both cities and at both shows along with GreatDarkWing (Alex) we might have run into you at some point. I liked the row of stores in Champaign, however. Came in handy when I needed a new SD card for my camera.
The highway from Madison to Champaign however. SNOOZE......
Yeah, and that arena in Champaign was a TOTAL DUMP!!! Absolutely the worst of the whole tour. It was so F**Kin hot in there. I remember a security gaurd telling me that that was the last concert there for the summer cause the place has no air conditioning :distress:

Las Vegas didn't make anyone's list? Interesting.
I liked Vegas when I was there in May, but since I'm not a gambler, I'm not really sure I wouldve gone there if it wasnt for the shows.

Well I didnt really think to put cities I hate, but here's a few.
1. No Contest, Buffalo, New York. I went to see Fleetwood Mac there in 03, and while I pretty much just drove in for the show and left right afterwards, what I saw made me think this city was really in trouble. Incidentally, that concert on 5-15-03 was one of the best of the whole 2 year tour I saw, so go figure.
2. Detroit. the whole downtown seemed so old and outdated, to say nothing of the surrounding area. I'm just glad that last show in '04 was outside the city!!
3. Houston. There's nothing like the smell of refineries in the morning....

Faves:
1) San Francisco: no matter where I go I still adore this city, it's got so much character and it's right on the Bay :)
2) LA: probably not central LA, but northern LA area, like westlake, malibu, and venice beach, but unfortunatly they are not really "cities" so I just lump them with being in the LA area.
3) Is Santa Barbara a city? If it is the I would love to live there, its soooo pretty and a blast to walk around.
Yeah I'm a real california girl :)

Good God, what the hell did you see?
Apparently not the gorgeous architecture, the Elmwood Strip, the theatre district, the waterfront, Forest Lawn Cemetary, the Albright Knox Art Gallery, Delaware Park, Shea's...
OK, OK, I'm getting a little defensive here :p . Everyone has the right to their opinion. You are not totally incorrect -our city IS in trouble, financially & politically - if it weren't for the idiots in public office, we'd be a hell of a lot better off. We've always been along the same line as Cleveland & Pittsburgh, but Buffalo has been a lot slower with a comeback. And it is not a huge happening place like NYC or San Diego - you have to find the cool things about it, but they are here, I swear.
It really is a beautiful little city with wonderful people & a nice low cost of living. I urge you to come back & check it out when you have more time to explore.
BTW - You're right about the Buffalo show - it rocked!
