So, I've been dealing w/ this upper respiratory infection crud since last weekend - went to the doc on Tuesday, got some antiobiotics....blah, blah. Well, last night I started to lose my voice and it's even worse today, even though I feel fine. Anyway, I've been having some fun with it, I keep singing Storms and Rock a Little, and my voice is cracking in all the right places. :D

The other thing I've been doing is singing the Peter Brady song - "When it's time to change, you've got to...re-arrange...."

But my question is - who else but me does silly **** like this when you're hoarse? And what are you favorite Stevie songs, and songs by other artists, to sing?

I've never lost my voice... even when sick. Not even a tad husky...tho if it ever happened I know I would be doing my best Stevie impression!

Love singing Storms- Sisters of the Moon, When I see you again, and even Rhiannan.
I have a somewhat husky voice to begin with a la Susan St James speaking voice. but I always wanted it to be huskier and sexier
Not Bea Arthur (Maude ) husky
but like
Brenda Varcaro, or a Lauren Hutton, or a Dyan Cannon type of husky/raspy
voice.
I have to count my blessings- At lease I don't sound like Jessica Simpson or Katie Couric (yuck!!!)

When I have throat problems and stuff like that, I don't even speak. I get strep throat every year and I usually get it bad, so I stay mute for a few days until the meds kick in.

or a Lauren Hutton

I always thought she had a very sexy voice. Same with Demi Moore.

Yeah me too- but I don't sound like her (Or look like her either for that matter).
I have a trick for you- When I was a child (years and years ago- I always, always had very bad sore throats-tonsilitis-anyway I had to have my tonsils removed -but my point is...when you have a sore throat a very yummy treat that my Mom used to make me was ice cube orange juice.
All you do is take an ice cube tray and fill it with OJ- Let it freeze and then later when you mouth feels that AWFUL dry, burning, miserable, hot , scratchy mess, that you know it will feel like in a few hours....suck on an OJ ice cube- VERY GOOD, and you are even getting some vitamin c too :xoxo:
just a little tip from the tipster~~

I love to do that...although it does damage the voice (if you're a singer). I love to sing Love Don't Fail Me Now...why? I don't know...I just always feel the need to sing it when I'm hoarse...which really rarely happens

Maybe you should record your vocal of Rock A Little for The Gold Dust Project?

Hee-hee - well, the reason the Peter Brady one is so fun is that I can't control my voice or when it cracks, and I sing off-key - a LOT!

People at work are calling me Kathleen Turner...

Haha! I am just getting over one of those myself and I totally did the same thing!
I Sing for the Things is totally different when I can make my voice crack right. I can also sing Landslide original version much better, it's a little low for me normally. But I tried it with quite a few different Stevie songs.

Too funny! I'm an "It's a Heartache" man myself. :wavey: Another good one to sing when you're sick is "Broken English" or "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan" by Marianne Faithfull.

Mmmmm, my fave Faithfull tune. Her voice cracks on every line of it.

Firstly sorry to hear that you are sick...... :distress:

Secondly...when I get the whole throat thing I can't speak or sing...which is not a bad thing because my singing is truly atrocious[sp?]...however...husky voice permitting....it just has to be Stand Back when no one can hear me...LOL!! :D

I have always enjoyed singing when I have a cold/flu, and sound raspy, I have always admired singers who just sound raspy like they "just might" lose their voice, but do not. Janis, Stevie sometimes, Bekka Bramlett's Mom, Bekka, and Rod Stewart. It is not fun to be ill, but cool to sound that way for a few days, LOL..

I can't stop singing , even when I'm sick. And I'm a natural tenor, but when I'm sick my voice goes into a total deeper register, so I love singing all the songs I can't normally sing well. I remember recording a demo once when I was with one of my old bands, and I was right in the thick of a cold. It sounded great but when I got better and tried to sing it, I couldn't hit the lower notes anymore.

This thread reminds me of that episode of Friends where Phoebe gets a cold and starts singing the blues because he voice sounds so sexy, then when she gets better she keeps trying to get sick again. She even licks Monica's drinking glass to catch her germs. LOL!

I've been calling Bruce at work all day and singing random Stevie songs..."when I see you agaaaain, will it be the saaaame?" He just called to hear my raspy voice one more time and I said, "Hello, I'm Brenda Vacarro and I'm here to talk to you about Playtex tampons." And if you remember that commercial, you're at least as old as me! LOL

I had walking pneumonia last November and had barely anything of a voice. So I walked around the house grumbling out sounds and pretending I was the Godfather. It was pretty cool...(not the sickness, of course).

My natural voice is somewhere in the middle. When I sang in chorus I couldn't even keep up with the soprano section (where 90% of the girls were), so they switched me to the alto section. I felt like a guy. :distress:
