View Full Version : CBGB's
I am really supprised that no one has made any mention to the possibility of CBGB's getting closed down. Is this not concerning anyone?? It is only one of the most important and legendary venues in America.
I am going to NYC this weekend to stage some sort of vigil...not really...but I will walk by angry and perplexed at the mere thought of it not being there.
I am actually going to NYC....Strandy....you are going to meet me and xxMx there for some drinks, right? Your alcoholism is needed... ;)

There's a club here in Minneapolis called First Avenue that while it isnt quite as famous as CBGB'S, is legendary around most of the country. It's been open for almost 40 years, and it actually got shut down last fall for about 2 months beacuse the dumb**** owner screwed things up. but it's back up and wunning now, better than ever. I'm curious if anyone has heard of First Avenue?

I've never been to a show at First Avenue, but I work with the guys there constantly. They're good people. I was glad for them that the club is staying open so they could all keep their jobs. Our shows are always at either First Avenue or the Quest, which I've heard people don't like as much, or the Orpheum, which I don't really know anything about.

Isn't this referenced in "Life during wartime" by Talking Heads?

Yup, CBGBs and the Mudd Club, the more "upscale" version of CBGBs. One of my favorite Heads songs, too.
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
This ain't no fooling around
This ain't no Mudd Club, or CBGB
I ain't got time for that now
