What program do you use to make banners, etc.? I use Microsoft Image Composer or a free program called XnView. And this is what happens:

I cropped a pic to banner-size:

http://users4.ev1.net/~iansnana/starry-night3.jpg

Fine, right? But when I add text, it won't show up in my browser after uploading to my webspace.

http://users4.ev1.net/~iansnana/StarryNightBanner.jpg

I can *read* it with my browser, if I open the file from the hard drive. It also opens fine in both image programs, plus crap like PowerPoint if I insert it into a presentation.

So, what the hell? I mean, at the end of the day, it's just a bunch of dots, right? Or is there some stupid coding (that I don't know about) that is hidden within the files that I need to remove? Do I need to cross the fingers on my left hand while clicking "Save" with my right? What? What?

Here's an attachment of the file - can you read it? Any and all suggestions appreciated (about the file, or a different program to use). Thanks! :xoxo:

Yes, that's my server account. You mean you can see the pic with the text added, like in the attachment? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR@$%@%$@$%@#$%@#$

That's a horse of a different color then, I guess.

When I try to open that URL on my browser, it shows up blank. And even if I try to add it to my signature, it shows up blank on The Ledge.

Ah, OK - so it's a browser issue. I use Avant Browser, and it won't show the banner, even though you are linking from Photobucket. But I opened IE, and it shows it fine.

That's it - I've had it - off to download Firefox. Be back later.

And thank you VERY much!!! :xoxo: :D

Sooooo weird. Even pasting the IMG tag you PM'd me, I still see nada.

Thanks again for the help - at least now I can stop scouring the Web for graphic help (like I've been doing for the last 2 days), and focus on getting a browser that actually works.

Thanks! :D It's actually a lot longer, and rambling (typical Joni). But you couldn't read the text with all of it on there... But please don't tell her - I'm sure she could kick my butt.

"That's one thing that's always been a major difference between the performing arts to me, and being a painter. Like when a painter does a painting, he does a painting, and that's it. You know - he's had the joy of creating it, he hangs it on some wall, somebody buys it, somebody buys it again, or maybe nobody buys it and it sits up in a loft somewhere until he dies. But nobody ever said to Van Gogh, 'Paint us Starry Night again, man! ' " - Joni Mitchell (from "Miles of Aisles")

I've got a question slightly along these lines, but much simpler. I didn't want to waste a new thread on it. OK: How do you resize photos? I'm so completely retarded when it comes to creative things like this.

I'm glad you're on - I was just about to PM you.

I realized last night that the Ad Blocker plugin in my browser was responsible for blocking my sig. So, all those hours of troubleshooting graphics programs, downloading and installing new browsers, and pounding my computer desk when I couldn't see my creations was all fixed by simply adding my webspace address to the exclusion list of the Blocker.

I can't tell you how many hours of my life have been spent trying to create graphics, and then trashing them because I thought I was doing something wrong. Just thought I would share my stupidity with everyone.

And thanks again for your help. Knowing that you could see what I had posted finally made the light bulb switch to "ON". :xoxo:

But on the other hand, I'm empowered now. There's no telling what I might post. <evil grin>

Hmmm. Just what are you trying to say? ;)

The program I use is XnView - very simple, yet you can add plugins for more advanced functions as your skills progress. (And it's FREE!)

http://www.xnview.com/

It has a resize tool where you can select numerically the exact size you want your image or graphic to be. Like, avatars on here can be no more than 50x50, etc... It's worked great for me.

And, on most programs, you can also resize with the mouse, clicking the corner and dragging to the size you want - just make sure to hold down the Shift key while doing so to make the pic keep the same height/width ratio - unless you're going for that alien/mutant look, of course.

Awesome! I added that to favorites. Cause everyone knows my affinity for avatars.
