that's a strong contender, I tell you what.
mmm....lets say it has to be a song that was played fairly regularly....
ooo, this is hard....
I really hate the song....That's What Friends Are For (aaahhh! heeelp!!!). Sooo heinous. Dionne Warwick in general....*shudder*....Also in the running...
Su Su Sudio (or however).

HAHA! Not long ago there was a thread on irritating songs, and I remember giving a nod to this one. I mean yeah it's supposed to be symbolic, but wow... a song about a cake out in the rain just seems so odd to me.

Okay, let's see, I like "Lady Marmalade," and admit that "Mandy" is bad but I wouldn't say it's the worst by any stretch of the imagination. The "All for One" song is just bland, I think. Not that bad.
My picks would be:
"Trapped in a Closet" by R Kelly (any and all parts of it)
"La La" by Ashlee Simpson
"Oh Aaron" by Aaron Carter (pretty much anything by Aaron Carter is the worst song, I think  )
"I Wanna Sex You Up" by Color Me Badd
"F*ck the Men" by Willa Ford (words cannot describe how I feel about that idiot)
"Bump, Bump, Bump" by B2K
There are some really awful remakes out there, too, obviously, like-
"Tiny Dancer" by Tim McGraw
"I Can't Get No Satisfaction" by Britney Spears
"Rhiannon" by Waylon Jennings
"Dancing Queen" by those damn A*Teens
"Little Drummer Boy" by Jessica and Ashlee Simpson
I have to agree with those who went with "Rico Suave," "Informer," and "Sorry 2004," too.

Natasha Beddingfield - These Words
*gasp*
I love that song! But on to the issue at hand...
Some contenders for the worst song evah:
Barbie Girl - Aqua
Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus
Forever Young - Rod Stewart (horrible remake which ruined the original for me forever)
Shut Up - Kelly Osbourne (who told this girl she had the right to sing?)

Forever Young - Rod Stewart (horrible remake which ruined the original for me forever)
Umm... that's actually not a remake. The titles and theme are the same but the lyrics are different, although Stewart did split the royalties with Dylan.
Rod Stewart:
May the good lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
Surround you when you’re far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you’d have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you’ll always stay
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
With a prince or a vagabond
And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Forever young
Forever young
And when you finally fly away
I’ll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell
But whatever road you choose
I’m right behind you, win or lose
Forever young, forever young
Forever young ,forever young
Forever young, forever young
For, forever young, forever young
Bob Dylan:
May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

"Stand Back" is a good example, IMO. What if there were a country version of that? What about "I Can't Wait" or "Sister Honey" or "If Anyone Falls"? I don't think those work at all. JMO.
EDIT: Also, I think that there are some Stevie songs that are very uniquely Stevie and I wouldn't really approve of any remakes. I think "Rhiannon," is one of those, as well as "Edge of Seventeen" and probably "Trouble in Shangri-La," too. If I were a famous singer (oh how nice that would be) I would cover something else besides those because I would be embarrassed to cover those. I might do "That's Alright." Or maybe "Think About It"....yeah. Sorry, I got caught up in the fantasy. :o

Not to worry, you and I and Celine all suck at something. ;)
My favorite Celine Dion Sucks Moment was during the rehearsals for the first VH1 Divas Live. Carole King (who is the complete opposite of Celine Dion) was sitting at the piano rehearsing "You've Got A Friend" with Celine, Gloria Estafan, and Shania Twain. In the midst of rehearsing, Carole decides to go over a particular vocal part- Celine decides to do her typical over-emoting by taking the phrase and adding multiple-gymnastics-notes and Carole stops her dead her tracks and says, "No, no, no- just one note. Not a lot of notes- just one note." You could tell that Carole was irritated by the whole thing.
I was like Goldie Hawn's character from Death Becomes Her, where she was watching the Madeline Ashton movie where Madeline is being strangled to death. Helen (Goldie's character) keeps rewinding the tape over and over and over to savor the moment.

Those "Pickin' On" albums are great! I didn't realize how MANY of them there are, though...I'd go broke trying to collect 'em all. They take the songs from a particular artist, then rearrange them for bluegrass instruments (fiddle, dobro, banjo, dulcimer, flat-top guitar, etc)...all instrumental, and they're amazing!! I mean, c'mon, "Pickin' On...Cream"??? U2?? Led Zeppelin?? Black Sabbath??? YIKES!! But, they all sound wonderful! I DO think there's a "Pickin' On Fleetwood Mac", too!
Edit: Upon further review...no, sadly, there's no "Pickin' On Fleetwood Mac" album. "Okie from Muskogee" by Merle Haggard...Take it from a person born/raised in Muskogee, 99.9% of the population in Muskogee HATE that f**kin' song because it is 100% inaccurate

Did she tell Aretha the same thing
Don't even attempt to lump Celine Dion into the same world as Aretha Franklin... for shame.
Agreed. Heinous.
There isn't enough room in this thread to hold all the nazzzztiness that is Lionel Richie's solo career. At least he had some style when he was in the Commodores.
ON EDIT: The video for that song makes it a thousand times worse than the song is by itself. It's mid-80's dreck at it's worst.

Ugh. I don't care if I never hear that song again.

Here's the link to the "Pickin' On" (@CDUniverse) (http://www.cduniverse.com/sresult.asp?HT_Search_Info=Pickin%27+On&HT_Search=ARTIST&cart=265004269&style=music&altsearch=yes) section of CDUniverse...they have 30 second clips of their songs.
I just the "Pickin' On Franz Ferdinand" album and it's a ****ing riot.

Kim Carnes: Chain Letter
Though I like the sappiness of it (sucker for the sappy), the lyrics are awful:
"I read your letter and it feels like chains, yeah. I read your letter and it's chaining me to you!"
If I had a barfing emoticon, it clearly would be used now!

I felt so cheated when I bought the cd after hearing What You Waiting For and was subjected to that swillYou know, my mom (who tends to listen to a lot of modern music these days, while I'm buying old FM albums, so clearly we should be switching places) talked about how "What You Waiting For" and "Hollaback Girl" were crappy songs for the longest time and then all of sudden she bought the CD and she keeps playing it in her car. There are only a few tracks she doesn't like. I don't want one of my own, though. It seems that I preferred her in No Doubt.

Not a lot of notes- just one note." You could tell that Carole was irritated by the whole thing.I try to ignore modern Celine Dion to a degree. Yes, she plays around too much. I love her French music, as I've said at least eighty times. I made the mistake of buying an album of a concert in Paris because it has performances of some of my favorite songs (not just of hers but of all time) like "Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore" and "Les Derniers Seront Les Premiers" and I was so, soooooooooo disappointed because she ruined all her own songs by playing with them. They were perfect on the original albums but she put all kinds of acrobatics with them that didn't belong on this CD. It was awful. And what was even worse was that in this song called "Un Garcon Pas Comme Les Autres," she had children singing with her! You have to understand how ridiculously inappropriate that is because the song is about the pain of being in love with someone who's gay! Why was was a childrens' chorus singing along? That really baffled me. And I have this other live CD that someone got me as a gift that was yet another Paris concert in which she was singing "Le Monde Est Stone," which is quite dark and talks about wanting to die and she had to make all these stupid noises when she did it live! It was totally inappropriate!
So, I know what you're talking about. But I will always love the album versions of many of her songs. Some are just plain beautiful and have wonderful lyrics (not written by her, of course). Plus, I performed "Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore" twice at my university (and I didn't play with it  ), and I got numerous compliments and people telling me that I should be a professional singer, etc. I don't deserve that and it saddens me to an extent because I'd love to be a singer, but "Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore" will always be very close to me because of that.

Honey, that song is the most self-indulgent, ridiculous, heinous piece of **** I've ever had the misfortune of hearing. It hurts my everything and always has. What bothers me even more is that it's so popular.
You hate it so much you were forced to use a Stevie lyric to describe your dislike.
And you are freaking CRAZY to think that song is the bad let alone the worst song ever.

Hands To Heaven - Breathe (can't stand that song, WAY too cheesy)
The Thong Song - Sisqo (I liked it at one point, until public radio overplayed it within an inch of its life)
....And basically anything rap these days gets on my nerves.
