I thought it might be fun to name our top 10 favourite albums by decade.
I think it should be albums other than the Mac/Stevie/Lindsey etc because I'm assuming they would fill most people's top 10's and that might get a little boring.

So here's mine for the 60s:

1. The Velvet Underground & Nico
2. The Byrds - Sweetheart Of The Rodeo
3. Rolling Stones - Beggar's Banquet
4. The Who - Tommy
5. Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
6. The Stooges
7. Love - Forever Changes
8. Led Zeppelin II
9. Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
10. The Band

There are so many I've left out too!

Well for Simon & Garfunkel it's either Sounds Of Silence or The Graduate soundtrack for me. I don't have much Aretha Franklin but Lady Soul is a real classic. :D

Having the Beatles at number one is cool, but I think you should say your favourite Beatles album of all time as well!

Mine is definitely Let It Be, but it just missed out on the top 10.

I left out Boudewijn de Groot and Cuby & the Blizzards' Groeten uit Grolloo. Dutch masterpieces, but I chose Golden Earring as the only dutch record in the top ten. They do have SOME name abroad....

Okay so I skipped the beatles to 11. Couldn't live with the absence of another Dutch masterpiece. Shocking Blue's Venus is The only song EVER to hit billboards nr 1 three times!!!!! (first time on February 7, 1970, second time on June 20, 1981 by "Stars On 45"; third time on September 6, 1986 by Bananarama). And it's dutch friends, dutch.

I just think it is beyond cool you are such a big Nico fan. I absolutely adore her. I think she is amazing, fascinating, and not like anything else I have ever heard. I've read her biography and her life was really original. She is the definition of a bohemian gypsy...and it's quite cool how all these men were in love with her and she couldn't care less. :)

I've only got Chelsea Girl and The Velvet Underground & Nico.
John Cale really stuck with her over the years but I was always wary of her other albums that didn't feature the Velvets.
Any recommendations for her other stuff?

Ah, c'mon! :) It's so easy to say "everything by the Beatles". :p
Can't you do a top 5 at least?
For me the fun is making the list and seeing where others have placed those albums in their lists...

It depends on what you go for, really. Her other stuff is very different from "Chelsea Girl." Its darker, more gothic and classical in feel. I love it very much, but it isn't for everyone. I think my favorite is the "Desertshore." It's my favorite album of hers and I think it captures her very well. My friend who is generally into gothic music thinks "Marble Index" is probably the most brilliant album he's ever heard. I enjoy both, but the former is something I really cherish. She was really different...I think getting into her is worth it, but you have to understand a little of her life..she was kind of a vagabond, to put it kindly. :)

BTW: I'm the biggest J.Cale fan so anything they did together is gorgeous to me.
