I love the energy, I love the music, but I don't really love this song. Lyrics - way too many "he said, she said, and he says..." for my taste. I have particular disdain for:

"She probably goes under another name
Well that's a good idea."

and

"Well, I think she just went home"

Sounds like she's chatting with her neighbor or something. The lyrics are not poetic, not dreamy & mysterious. Way too literal & boring. Yeah, they're kind of sad (I get "well, I'm lonely but that was my decision, so I have to live with it" from it) but I just don't "feel" this song.

Live - no way. Not now, at least. Maybe in 1986, but I'm sure it would have been a mess. So no, I am not that upset that she never tried this live.

BTW - just because this tune is not one of my faves does not mean I don't howl "don't cry baby, I can save you" when it's playing.

Craptastically Spectacular. I love it in all it's bawdy, blowsy splendor. And especially the WHOAHWHOABAYBEH! of course.

I've always liked this song. Okay, so it doesn't have the majesty of Rhiannon, but if every single song was an epic then they'd all get old after a while. It's good to have some nice simple rock tunes from time to time. I think it's a lot of fun. Plus, as a songwriter, I've used the he said, she said format before. It's kind of like building a piece of art within a structured framework, a conversation put to music. :)

Hey, you should share that line with Stevie, so she'll have some explanation to use....when her lyrics suck......

I love it. One of the first songs I fell in love with on RAL.

Ok I hated this song for the longest time. It ruined RAL for me and refused to listen to it and it was the only song on the album I would skip. A lot of times I don't like the organ sound in songs and this song is no exception. It's also some of her weakest lyrics and it just doesn't move me in any way. However, about 3 weeks ago I decided to listen to it and it him me! Now I really, really dig it, especially the verses. It's a really fun song along the same lines as Sister Honey. Not deep and no special meaning but an enjoyable listen none the less. Finally I have a Stevie album where I like every single song! (not that I love every song on RAL but there is no longer a song on there I hate).

The elevators suck.

Lord Child - that entire hotel experience, other than the company, was FROM HELL -

the family of nine African Americans in the room adjacent to ours

their crazy stalker father yelling at us for almost stepping on the salt and pepper shakers he apparently had recently thrown into the hall way (perhaps when he threw them at someone and missed)

the thumping banging sound at 7:00 a.m.

the GROSS room service

the stinky hallways

the nasty worn towels

and a few more things.

But, it was sooooo convenient and I LOVED being with all of you all. So, that and the $85 price tag made the rest okay.

It's a fun, fluffy kind of song and I like it's energy and that's about it. When I first got RAL it was one of my favorites on the album but now it's just ok for me. I can take it or leave it.

I think this is the best song ever written about the Sunset Marquis Hotel (West L.A.).

Never mind the fact that it might be the only song ever written about the Marquis, "Imperial Hotel" still rocks. One of my favorite songs off Rock A Little, & a perfect little snapshot of what was happening in Stevie's world at that point.

Enough's been said about her vocal -- it kicks butt.

This song is about The Sunset Marquis? That's right near my house. Where did you hear this? Did she say that's what it was about?

A good performance on Stevie's part, but the song itself has always struck me as unmemorable. Formalism over substance, as them intellectuals say.

I love to hate this song. I just listened to it again for the the 1st time in a while. As much as I love the music to it, I cant understand a fuccking word she is singing. Stevie probably was coked off her ass when she recorded the vocals.

Yeah yeah im using the cocaine card again, buts it true!

You know is it me or does the No Spoken Word studio vocal sounds too quiet? It sounds like the music is being recorded in the studio. Then Stevie is singing the vocals through a screen window from 2 rooms down?

I love RAL, but so many of her vocals are blaaaaa. Too much partying going on! It still amazes me that most of the die hard fans do not love I Sing For Things like I do.

We can't complain too much, though. We had the biggest room. :D

"Sits across the table- same glass table....
says to her friends oh why am I so all alone??"
Sounds like she has gone over this question with herself and her friends more than once- Don't cha think?

I like/love this song.
Very upbeat 80'ish sounding but the vocals sound like they just did it live- I like that about Enchanted too, I agree sounds like she is just sitting there but instead of talking with her friends-she is singing...but I always sing along  I don't hit skip...

LOVE this song

It's so fun and I LOVE the part:

"Why am I alone he says...baby baby baby this is the path you have chosen...." :blob1:
