Many of you know I have been working with Senator Battin in crafting legislation to protect California's children against Sexual Abuse, and Family Court abuses.
Here is the latest info from Sacramento on SB 33: (those of you that live in CA and can (or are willing to) fax the representatives, please see below:

The hearing on SB 33 (Battin and Alquist), a bill to end the incest exception, will be held Wednesday August 17, 2005 at 9:00 am at the CA State Capitol in Sacramento in the Assembly Appropriations Committee, Room 4202.

This is the last step before this miracle bill goes to the Governor for signature.
The Assembly Appropriations Committee will be deciding if funds should be spent to protect children from incest. www.protect.org for information
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/bill/sen/sb_0001-0050/sb_33_bill_20050602_amended_sen.html for bill language

PLEASE ATTEND THE HEARING if you possibly can. Call Ken Devore (916) 445-5581 to make sure the hearing will be as scheduled (and thank Senator Battin for all his work to protect children.) http://www.senatorjimbattin.com/index.asp

PLEASE FAX a very polite and enthusiastic letter of support for SB 33 to Judy Chu, Chair, Assembly Appropriations Committee, State Capitol Building, Sacramento, CA 95814 with copies to the committee members listed below. (We know faxing takes time, but we found that emails are not effective.)

You can mention how delighted you are about the large majority vote to endorse this bill in both the Senate and Assembly, how you and others want our tax dollars to be used to provide equal justice and equal protection for sexually abused children, and that you thank them for a yes vote on SB 33. Even if you are from outside CA, we need all the support we can muster! Thank you from all the children. Connie

any and all help is greatly appreciated. This fall, we will tackle MY issue of mandating supervised visits under certain conditions.

I just want to say that I think you are absolutely amazing for the work you are doing.

It is so amazing to see people consistently willing to stand up for an issue because that is what makes our democracy so great I think.

Coming from a politically active background I know how hard it can be sometimes so it gives me even more respect for you.

I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you for your kind words :) There are quite a few grassroots groups that are all trying to tackle this issue from several different angles. I personally think that the best way to tackle it is by changing the current law and by holding the Judges accountable. I wish we had something similar to SB 33 at the Federal level, then all 50 states would have child-protective guidelines in place. *sigh* maybe someday...
