Per requests, I'll skip from BD over to RAL. I may not go in order this time as far as the songs go - I like to get a lil' crazy sometimes, ya know? ;)

This song has so much damn energy! It gets me moving. Yes, it's typical 80's synth-pop/rock cheese - that is why I love it! It's the kind of music I grew up with. I prefer the album version to live - I am not a huge fan of the RAL tour in general, and I don't think the song translated well live - maybe due to all the synthesizers? Not to mention the fact that her voice was all over the place that tour, so it just didn't do it for me.

Favorite lyric:

"She wonders how many more hours
her heart will feel broken
in secret she says she needs to see him
but no words are spoken"

I never knew the deep background vocal was singing "how will you feel 10 years from now?" until I bought Enchanted & read the lyrics again.

Ext. rock version vs. album - eh. Doesn't matter to me. I guess I prefer the album version with the instrumental break in the middle - so I can do the Stevie Hand Jive from the video at that part, of course.

Speaking of the video - that GLORIOUS video! Again, the epitomy of 80's cheese - the B&W clothes, the staircase, weirdo Mick cowering on the stairs then creeping away, the walking up/then downstairs choreography, the previously mentioned Stevie Hand Jive. Superb. My favorite part is after she says "somehow she still believes him" & stares at the camera for about 3 seconds before looking away.

Please share thoughts & opinions.

Yep. At first I didn't like it, it was too cheesy. That lasted for 2 or 3 seconds. I tear up just thinking about how fricking cool this song is, and how much I love it.
Oh, and I can't imagine my life without the line "Well she danc-ez a-round in a cir-cle, well" So bad it's delectable.

Also I think this song could be the most screwed up lyrically on the Rock a Little Tour. She probably messed up something everynight the MOST on this song. But I love on my Iowa 86 dvd how she does the little dance and waddy has to untangle her shawl in the beginning.

I love it. Love, love, love it! Any version is great! This song hooked me on Stevie Nicks when it first hit the radio. For some reason I related to it strongly at age 13. And the video? Ugh, so corny and so awesome at the same time!

First of all, what a great way to start off an album!?!?!!?!? It has the perfect tempo and opening music to set off Rock A Little. Like Paula, I prefer the album cut to the Extended Rock Mix on Enchanted....just for the fact that I also dance to the little synth break they have in there. It makes the song, IMO.

I also love the fact that it is a one time vocal. It shows that if you just go balls to the wall the first time around, no other take will compare. I like how her voice is all raspy and angry. :)

My favorite lyrics:

Put the blame on me....if you want to...to be continued. <33

....and it's my favorite video. EVAH!

I was 16 years old when this came out, and I thought the song sounded fabulous ~ another instance where Stevie clearly shows she can rock just as hard as she can sing her beautiful ballads. Prior to this video, I hadn't really seen one where she was this 'wild.' I loved the line 'how will we feel 20 years from now?' ~ I envisioned that then, wondering what Stevie would be like and what I would be like, and it's hard to believe, but we're coming up on that pretty soon...

The video is very high-energy and very 80's, which is cool! I've never liked how Stevie's hair kept flying into her mouth, though...then or now. It seemed like every shot she was having to dig it out! Did that bug the hell out of anyone besides me? Stevie looked so beautiful, but I also remember realizing that things had changed for Stevie, and drugs were obviously getting in the way. Not from the video so much, but from the album, and especially the tour.

At first I found it too cheesy, especially the beginning of the album version. Recently I've realized that it's a really catchy and fun 80s dance tune, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I like it, but I have to been in the mood for the 80's synthesizers.

Video is good, but I could do without weirdo Mick. Why does he seem to make these cameos in her solo videos? Gotta have that attention, I guess!

Mariel, I had forgotten about that part.... OY!!! Too much.

This song was the confirmation for any guy in his teens that if you liked it, you knew for sure you were gay. It has coming out written alllll over it. Probably Stevie's gayest song ever. This was her jumping the shark Cher moment for sure.

Love, love, love of course! The music is just wonderful, it's a great beat. Plus the fact that I'm a synth-pop whore kind of helps.... But yeah it's an awesome song, most definitely in my top 5.

The video makes it that much better -- the amount of energy Stevie has in that thing, it's like wow. For some reason, I absolutely love the fact that she holds up four fingers when she sings "Blame it on something at first sight".... it just cracks me up every time!

Love it! Always have, always will. I'd say it's one of the top ten rock songs of the 80s. I just wish Stevie had done a whole album like this. And the crazy dancing in the middle of the video rocks!

I have no real problem with Mick other than his disloyalty to Lindsey. No matter what happened on that August day in 1987, Mick should NOT have used it to help sell books. I am quite sure Mick has many skeletons in his closet and I dont recall Mr. Buckingham writing tell alls about that. (No, Mr. RockCock is not a tell all)
That and he is a money whore.

I love the song. I love the video. The lyrics are awesome and she sings them with tons of passion for that era. BTW..I LOVE the backing "ten years" vocal. Wow.

Yeah, I've got that feeling now.

Crazy vocal from Stevie that I love and a few good lyrics, but the production is so sterile and seems so calculated for the charts that it takes away from the power of the song. She goes as ape**** as she was every going to vocally on a studio song and the intensity of her vocal is practically unmatched, but I just wish the production and overall sound was as raw and intense as her voice. Also, it does nothing to move me.

another missed opportunity for Stevie to dig out this song for her 2005 shows.. and this year, like no other, would have added special importance to the lines "how would we feel in 20 years from now?".... would have been the PERFECT opener for her shows in Vegas... but as usual, she fears performing this song live... if she could ruin "Gypsy" the way she did in 2003, why not give "I Can't Wait" another chance in 2005??

I have taken the liberty of posting The Tower's comments from the "opening tracks" survivor thread. Cuz they're f'ing hilarious.

Ingredients:

(1) pre-written synth music track circa 1984

(2) cartons of Kools in the box

(1) case E & J V.S.O.P top shelf brandy

(1) pint distilled bitterness from Jimmy Iovine dumping the project

(48) ounces of premium Columbian grade cocaine

(1) set of disjointed cut-and-paste lyrics from drunken journals

Combine synth track with 1/4 case of brandy. With poor judgement in place, liberally add cut-and-paste lyrics to music. Smoke one carton of Kools, washed down with a 1/4 case of brandy, a 1/2 pint of bitterness and 12 ounces of snorted cocaine. Record uninspired vocals. Rinse and repeat. Use Jim Keltner as inspiration to get acceptable track.

Combine remaining ingredients with awesome 80's hairdo, faboo dress, three large staircases, equally coked out friends well-wishers and bandmates, and breakable brick wall and put on high heat until you achieve a rolling boil. Record for posterity and file recipe under "Dated- Won't Hold Up Under Scrutiny of Time" recipe file.

*** WARNING!! Please note: do not attempt to recreate this recipe live as the case of brandy and the 48 ounces of cocaine tend to react badly on stage, causing the artist to spin wildly and fall off the stage.

Do you know what is so funny? For the past few days I have been listening to this song and I kept thinking...'God, why didn't she do this song in Vegas??'. I could just picture her coming down that little ramp with her boots on and some fab shawl and totally strutting and rockin out. And when I thought about it, it gave me chills! Stevie, if you're out there...we are deciding the setlists from now on. LOVE this song and always will...no extended mix, remix, etc..original in all it's glory.

I have to say that I Can't Wait is high up on my favorite Stevie songs. I remember how pissed off I was that Nu Shooz came out with a song of the same title the same year and I would get all excited to see it on a jukebox or "coming up" on a video station only to find out it was some crappy pop band. LOL!

A coming out song? Hmmm, never thought of it that way. I'm gay and I loved it then and love it now. Maybe there's some merit to that. :)

I did find it interesting in one of the live recordings where she messes up the first line but really covers well. "Sometimes she wakes up and sometimes when she's only dreaming... then when she really wakes up..." I can never recover like that when I'm singing. I thought that was great.

Does anyone have any idea where the "How will we feel 20 years from now" sample comes from? I really don't think it's Stevie's voice and the quality of the sample leads me to think that it's from a movie. You can tell there's some background noise on the sample as it's played in different speeds during the break.

I love the extended version but was really upset they took out the little synth break. If anyone here has the 12 inch, listen to the instrumental dub. They take that little synth break and stretch it out to the extreme. I actually edited that part into the main extended remix and let it end with the dub mix because I love that part so much. It takes some of the steam out of the ending but it just sounds so cool. I have a habit of adapting songs to my liking. I'm such a geek with editing tools.

Also, I have to call Stevie out on this one. She said that she only did the vocal once but on the rock mix the third verse plays twice and the second time its' a completely different vocal. I don't think she was counting overdubs in her statment and they probably used the first recording she did anyway. I just notice these things. Again, I'm such a geek. LOL!

Heh heh, you're welcome. I didn't even start on the video but I think everything cool about it has already been said, LOL. Except I almost spit out my tea when I read "the Stevie Nicks handjive". You know, when I go out dancing even today, all these years later, I still do that thing she does during the little synth part, where she sort of bends forward and does circles with her hand, like she's twirling a lasso. I swear, I learned to sing by watching the Tusk doc, I learned to write songs by dissecting her lyrics, and I'm just now realizing that I think I learned how to dance from her videos. I swear if I wasn't a guy I'd probably be running around in chiffon robes and tall boots all the time. LOL!

I'm just kidding. I'll joke around stuff like that but I'm very down to earth. I think sometimes people let their love for an artist's work become an obsession for the artist themselves and that's just not healthy. Although I do admit, I would love to meet Stevie someday. I've been fortunate to have met many of my inspirations. Living in Hollywood you get a few more chances for this than you do living in most other places, depending what type of jobs you have. But have never had a chance to meet Stevie. Maybe someday.

I hate to rain on the love here...but I can't stand...I can't stand this song. Am I wasting my time while you make up your mind?

I always program this one out on any CD it happens to be on. Of course, it wasn't always like this...when I first heard Rock-A-Little, I couldn't get enough of it...even bought the 12" (and prefer the version of The Nightmare on that too). But alas, the song just grates on me now and I hope never to hear it again. Rick Nowels is not my fav writer or producer. He faired better working with Belinda Carlisle rather than Stevie.
