what grosses you out?

--Roaches

When I was in Hawaii I went on a Zodiac raft snorkeling trip. It just so happened that there was a HUGE thunderstorm pouring down rain once we got in the water. When everybody finally got back to the raft, the raft was going up-and-down and up-and-down and up-and-down. This middle aged lady plopped over the side and started puking into the ocean- right next to where everyone was trying to board the raft. Her puke was orange and a big long stream of it sailed right into the people who were trying to get into the raft.

When I saw that I turned away and tried to concentrate on other things. No dice. I puked. Luckily, I had nothing in my stomach so it was just clear water stuff- but still...... ewww.

My ex-roommate from the stone age had a problem with overeating. She ALWAYS had some kind of goop in her mouth and in the corners of her lips. Let's see...

cockroaches
crickets (my work is overrun with them... and these things are HUGE and black and look a hellavu lot like roaches only they arent. They're almost worse because they jump and fly whereas roaches normally just run.)
fleas
ticks
mosquitoes
slugs (I don't mind snails or worms, but slugs for some reason  )
vomit
feces
urine
belching
the smell of infection (you know what I mean... that horrible stench that comes from an infected wound)
anything dead (this includes roadkill, meat, fish, etc. but not plants)
blue cheese
cigarettes
mayo (I like to eat it on certain foods, but I don't want to look at it)
marijuana
alcohol (the taste and smell of it are revolting)
watching any kind of surgical procedure on the eye (blood and guts don't bother me... just eyeballs)

I think that's about it
Things other people have listed that I love:

Rats - Over the years I've had a total of seventeen of them as pets, though I have only one right now. I think they're adorable. And yes, the wild ones too.

Snakes - I love these too. I think they're beautiful creatures. The only thing stopping me from getting one as a pet is the fact that I love the above creature (and their close cousin the mouse) too much.

Yeah, I worked as a veterinary receptionist for almost four years and whenever someone brought in an animal with an infected wound or a skin infection, you could always smell the animal before you saw it. I don't even know how to describe the smell either... it's just awful.
But the same is true with human infections. Like if you've ever had a piercing get infected.

Anytime. :) Especially the rats.

I embarrass the hell out of my friends everytime we're in a movie theater and a rat comes on the screen. I always have to squeal "Cute!" in the highest possible pitch just to be sure that everyone in the auditorium hears me.

Here's my current baby, Stella:
(Taken just a few minutes ago. If the pics had audio, you'd hear me saying "There's a rat in my bed, call the exterminator!" in a really high squeaky voice.)

Spitting - ug, makes me want to puke
Old drunken men swaying around in bars and falling over
The smell of stale smoke and stale beer on customers in work
Snakes
Maggots
Undercooked meat - just wrong

Getting up early for work...does that count?!

I think I'm the person who mentioned rats. Your rats are cute... I'd hold them and pet them and wouldn't have a problem with them. I just don't like meeting them on the sidewalk or hearing them scampering around in my attic!

Well as much as I love rats, the wild ones certainly aren't welcome in my house. Thankfully they've never been a problem. Mice on the other hand have been a nuisance for years, and my lazy, utterly useless (but oh so adorable) cats don't do a thing about them.

People who leave pussy zits on their face. I'd rather look at a bloody face than a pussy one. EWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!

Christy demonstrates the fact that a nurse cannot chart pus-eee in a chart. "Pus filled", yes. Pussy - um, no. :o Doesn't work. Meow.

Seeing animals hump each other makes me go "ewww..."

Really? If we're at the zoo, I usually turn the camcorder on & do the sound effects. :D

Here's my list:

Poo smell in bathroom (light a match peeps - it really does work!)

Hairballs (Cosmo's been a little under the weather lately. Blech)

George Bush

The smell of burning flesh (I occasionally assist when doctors cauterize wounds. Gag)

Watching toenails be removed after being partially torn off (I've seen this twice. Ack)

Used condoms. (Did I tell you guys about the broad that called the clinic a few weeks agao & wanted to know how long sperm survived in a used condom? Ummm, why do you want to know?)

Finding a hair in my food (Oh.My.God.)

Watching this show on Discovery Channel a few nights ago about the odd stuff they've found in people's stomachs/rectums/abdominal cavities. #1 was this guy that had his malformed twin in his abd. for his entire 30-some years of life. They couldn't figure out what it was, scans showed nothing, so they opened him up assuming it was a tumor. They took it out & it looked like raw chicken with hair & teeth. I almost fainted.

Oh.My.God. I have been laughing so much because of this entire thread. My sides already hurt, but when I got to the quote above, I laughed so hard I couldn't breath.

Everyone has pretty much summed up the grossest of gross! I can't really think of anything new to add that hasn't been said....but....here's what gags me:

Mayo
Fishy smells
Most hetero porn
Any food like tofu, or with the same consistency
ALL seafood. In my eyes, crabs and lobsters are...well....basically GIANT ARACHNIDS!?! I'd sooner eat a grasshopper than a shrimp.
Raw meat, hell, dead animals, raw or cooked, period, pretty much gross me out totally
Spiders.........*spine tingles at the thought*
Cat puke...well, any puke, but especially cat puke
....the way homeless people smell....
Beer on a mans' breath....whiskey is okay though.
Phlegm
Snaggle-teeth
Bad breath....usually the case with people who don't floss....ugh, the smell of food rotting between their teeth nearly sends me into convulsions.
Kissing a girl
Farting...unless it's on South Park
Bad body odor. Some slight body odor can be pleasant...even erotic, in the right circumstances.
Smelly feet
Chai
Penthouse Magazine
smelly drains
sewage
bacne

Oh, and I smoke, but only outdoors. And I love it. Sorry.

Oh, yeah, and to all of the mentions about food in the corners of peoples' mouths. Bleeeccccccccccchhhhhhhhhh. I totally agree. *does nasty dance*

Camel toe - barf! My friend's brother's girlfriend (who is at least 45 if not older, btw) insists on always wearing tight pants that ride up her ass (and other parts) and crotch-cutter shorts. Not attractive, to say the least. Of course, her look is complete with the same feathered hairdo I had 15 years ago.

I'm trying to find a link to it & I can't. I'll keep looking. They kept saying it was a "mess of limbs, hair & teeth" or something like that. When they showed it, it looked like a raw chicken; the skin was all wrinkled & bumpy & there were some bony limbs protruding limply from it. There was an enormous pile of black hair next to it on the table. I didn't see the teeth, but I was heaving right about that time so I may have missed them.

I know perfectly well what I'm talking about. If you're going to cover Etta James, make sure it isn't all flash & novelty and nothing else. That, in itself, is an impossible task because you can feel Etta James in your bones when you listen to her voice. Stevie's take on "At Last" was a vocally superb live performance, but there was nothing else to it. It smacked of one artist covering another artist and doing it in an inferior way. "Sunday Kind of Love" was simply atrocious, no two ways about it in my book.

But over on another forum, we have a very interesting discussion going on the part that the long-period motions of the Sumatra event are playing in the ever-increasing moment magnitude gauge. Apparently, the (very real) problem is that such long periods (600-second duration rupture) are easy to capture only in normal modes & GPS data -- both of which are harder to invert for fault geometry than the P/S/surface waves usually analyzed for rupture properties. The result is that seismologists don't absolutely know the exact dip of the EQ fault plane & the rate of the slip as it varies along such a huge fault -- thus, how do you compute the seismic moment to a dependably accurate degree?

The upshot is that the M9.0 from the U.S.G.S. is probably outdated -- M9.2 is probably a better number for Sumatra (which raises the question, What do you do about Alaska '64, an M9.2 historically -- when even though Sumatra ruptured longer, Alaska ruptured wider?).

Were they about the size and shape of grains of rice? If so then they're tapeworm segments. Tapeworm is a parasite that is typically contracted through the ingestion of infected fleas or flea larvae (even just one flea can cause an infestation) and is a very common problem in cats and dogs. It actually takes a few months before you see segments either coming out of the anus or in the animal's stool and sometimes owners will find dried segments (which look like sesame seeds) in the pet's bed. Otherwise healthy animals can go for very long periods of time without showing any weight loss or other symptom of an infestation so unless this visit happened a few months ago, the likelihood that the worms came from the vet's office is pretty small.

No. I'm not a vet, but I work as a receptionist/assistant at a veterinary hospital and have worked at two other vet hospitals in the past.

Actually the last thing in the world I'd ever want to be is a veterinarian. I care too much about the animals to have to deal so closely with injury and disease and to have to deal with all too often uncaring owners (you'd be amazed at how many times I've heard things like "Well for that kind of money I may as well just take him home and shoot him"). I'd probably become either suicidal or homicidal depending on the situation.

I think the most horribly nasty thing I've ever dealt with occurred yesterday. A client's approximately 100 pound rottweiler passed away in the owner's backyard and he brought the body to the office to be sent away for cremation. I was the only employee in the building when he arrived.

It is August and I live in Northern California. Summers mean triple digit heat.
There's no telling how long that dog's carcass had been out there in the sun, and it had begun to decompose. The body was wrapped in plastic bio hazard bags but they were leaking some sort of fluid. In the process of helping him remove the dog from his car and carry it into the hospital (we don't have a stretcher so the client and I placed it on a sheet and carried it in that way) I got the fluid on my hands, my arms and my clothing. The dog was too heavy for myself and the owner to lift into the large freezer in back. So we left in the hallway - stinking up the entire building. I called my dad and had him bring me a change of clothes, but there was nothing I could do about the horrible smell in the building.
When the doctor returned from his lunch break, he and the technician rebagged the dog and put it in the freezer. Then he opened up all of the doors in the building to air it out... which helped dissipate the smell but attracted several flies.
