still - I also get bitter about being so damn single sometimes.

I am very single....I would be alone in my room, except that my computer is in the living room....and I have a roommate to keep me company (when his nose isn't in a book).

I ended my last relationship back in February 2002. Sometimes I forget why I did it, and yes, I'm lonely from time to time. Between 18 & 28, I had three long term relationships, each lasted about three years - give or take a few months here and there. By the age of 28, I had decided that I had had enough of it all. I dumped my guy, gracefully and compassionately, and have been on my own ever since. I'll lie and say it's nice to be single....though I sometimes wish I weren't so alone. I will admit to having small moments of sadness when I see other couples who are obviously happy....cause I miss that... But, I just remind myself that it was I who wanted to be alone, I who needed to grow into myself, and I who felt like I needed to discover what was 'out there' and what my place in the world is - and what I wanted from it. After three years....nothing has changed really....except that I'm stronger emotionally, and I work more.

Sometimes, I hear Stevie sing that lyric from Doing The Best That I Can....and I flinch a little, 'cause it's me...."she thought she was out there, but nobody saw...."

I'm not looking for a partner...I'm not dating anyone....I only want to do the 'relationship thing' once more....so it better be right....but when he finds me, I'll know.

I'm partly single and partly in a relationship. It's nothing serious, though, so I don't know what I'd call it. F*ckbuddy is too crude a word for me to use this morning, but give me a few hours and that's probably what I'd call it.

Yup - that just about sums up my life, too. I've had my chances... but something has always stopped me from taking the proverbial plunge. I'm not one to settle, and I enjoy my own company, so I'm not completely miserable. I also have great friends, so I'm not at all a loner. Bitter, every so often, for sure, though! I sometimes look at couples and go, okay, if they found someone, what's wrong with meeeeee? My first true love just set the bar too damned high. *sigh*

I am recently single (again!). And as much as I'd like to not be, I know if I were to pursue something with someone at this point it would just be to distract myself and avoid dealing with sh*t in my own life that needs to be dealt with before I drag someone else down...

No you're not. But think less about what you think you need to "fix" and more about who is acceptable to you, when you're ready.

When I think back one thing I would have done differently is compromise LESS of myself when I was younger. This is a healthier way to be. You are so young there is no rush to be in a relationship, is there? If I had it to do over again I would have dated when I was young instead of serial super-close relationships. Too young/ too confusing. I guess you gotta play the way you feel it though. I was so different then.

I have to laugh because I think to myself how am I going to meet anyone and my first date was with a guy who came to fix our fridge.
I am not that great socially either and actually when I do go out all that I think about is the fact that I can't wait to come home and go online. My boyfriend and I have been together for almost 8 years. We've been living together for about 4. It's really weird because many of my friends are getting married and having children and I'm so not ready for any of that. We (boyfriend and me) have discussed it, and we both decided whenever the time is right we'll know and there won't be a question about it.

It's a little depressing to watch these programs where they go over the statistics of unmarried couples living together. The probablity of separation and divorce being higher...plus your friends who are married/getting married/have or are having kids begin speaking in condescending tones regarding your relationship.

Plus my mom! Dammit, she's the worse: "You really need to be contemplating your future and thinking about marriage already...you are 24 and you aren't a child anymore, and you need to start being serious about your life for one moment and blah, blah, blah..." Most of the time I feel like I get that "look-at-you-filthy-fornicating-immoral-little-tramp-why-can't-you-be-decent-and-honor-your-parents" look from my parents' friends. It 'aint easy I tell you...

People need to get it out of their heads that a couple can't be happy and complete without being married. I'll be glad when that out-of-style viewpoint is gone, though I don't know if it ever will be gone completely.

I don't know your parents' friends but I think it's plainly idiotic for them to look down on someone like you.

Yes!! People should just get a clue that we are living in a different time and stop getting all uptight and fussy about other people's lives. I'm at a point in my life where I really feel good but I'm not ready to take any steps or leaps or any of that crap...I'm happy at the here and now and I feel like having a few big adventures before tying myself down completely.

And I honestly feel that anyone out there who is single or isn't ready to marry should not have to feel bad about it in any way. Life is far too short to let meddling old hags and whatnot bother you. K, that was mean, but still...I mean it.

I fell HARD about 6 years ago. But, apparently, it wasn't meant to be(not by MY choice :( ). I was as down as I've ever been. I'm still not over it. I doubt I ever will be. And I've not dated since(although I've had quite a few offers). I literally have no interest. I can't settle for less.
How depressing. :sorry:

I was in a 3 year on and off relationship that finally ended for good over a year ago... I know that this is the one that I'll never get over. :distress: I've dated a couple of times since then but I haven't felt that same connection.

Oh, btw, I'm currently a combination of

very single, like "and now alone in my room as it all begins again" single

and

i just sorta get it when i need it. don't do dating or relationships really.

Does that make sense?

Makes perfect sense. I'm missing the "I just sorta get it when I need it" chromosome. wish I had it.

Hey - what happened to the GF - you all were a little hot and heavy there for awhile - oh well, her loss is Miami's gain ;) :D

All those single Miami women better watch out, cause Alex is on the prowl

As far as Lauren goes, yeah we were hot and heavy to say the least. Hell, we even went to Vegas together twice....It was probably the funnest relationship I have had, but her and I just couldn't see eye to eye on alot of stuff, so I had to finally pull the plug. We still talk, which is wierd, cause she always asks..."So, whats new? Anything new in your life?" Oh, just come out and ask me what you REALLLY want to say... "Any new girls in your life?!" LOL!!

But yes, Miami girls better watch out.....

I'll take him too but I'm more into Morrissey. Do you know about their feud? I think it's hilarious! Robert Smith said he has never liked Morrissey's music. Apparently Morrissey will trash talk Robert Smith whenever gets the chance! HAH!

You wish it was what you wanted ? That is interesting.

Maybe if you wish a lot more, you'll want it?

It's not for everyone. And the alternative must be satisfying ! Been on both sides of that fence, myself. Depends on the year...kinda.

Hahaha. That's funny. It's like, who can be the weepiest, eyeliner-clad english mope rocker?

I'd say Moz, since, well, he's more weepy. Robert tends to make me happy. <3

Random sex isn't what i want though. I wish it was. :distress:Pre-Joshua (my boyfriend), I always said that my love-life would've been a lot less complicated if I was just into the random hookups that all the other gay guys around here seem to be into. (Well, not ALL the gay guys around here. We also have our fair share of the "you seem nice -- so since I'm single and you're single, let's move in together this weekend" guys.)

Some of us just don't seem to be "wired" for it though, so I feel your pain.

Can I be a hermit and a married woman? I've been married for close to four years and the most fun we've had in the last year or so are FM and Stevie concerts! He got into FM and Stevie because of me. He's not a die-hard fan like I am, but he has been more than generous about my need for concerts. ;)

But most of the time I enjoy staying home and reading manga, watching anime, listening to Stevie, visiting my sites and lately getting all interested in space and flying again. What a dork I am. :p

Me too! Unless it's a song like Trust which basically puts me on the kitchen floor. I'm a mess when I listen to Trust.

 That's scary. Practically the scariest words I've read here since "husband hunters."I won't lie, Justin... it won't be easy being one of the "relationship oriented" guys, because you do get quickly written off by the guys who "just want to have a good time," and you also get quickly latched onto by the guys who are desperately seeking someone, anyone.

Of course, the guys in both extremes do make it a little easier for you in many aspects, because they basically weed themselves out!

But there are guys out there who aren't going to rush you into a relationship because they wanted to be "married" yesterday, and there are also guys out there who won't go into panic mode at the very thought of something even remotely resembling commitment. It's just a little harder to find them. :)

I'm glad you get it! I feel like one of the few who won't just **** around with someone. Not that I haven't done it, I just end up feeling worse after than I did before. Some people can just enjoy the physical at the time. Myself, I feel like I need more than that.

Sometimes I'm bitter about being single, other times I prefer it.

I;'m the same way too. My singleness is like an organism too. Sometimes it gets hungry, other times, it's doin' just fine! :D

I learned how true those words were, and knew I never wanted to feel like that again. :distress:

Some people can just enjoy the physical at the time. Myself, I feel like I need more than that. :shrug:I know what you mean.
The bad part of it is, that most guys then assume that you want to be madly in love with them before you'll do anything, so they run the other direction... when it's not really that at all. It's just that you want to feel a little deeper of a connection than just mutual horniness.

But don't worry too much... guys like you and I are out there. I know that for a fact. :D
You will find someone.

I usually feel like being celibate for a really long time after a one night stand.
