I've heard that here real name is Stephanie, but as a baby she couldn't pronounce it and would say TD instead. I guess that eventually turned into Stevie. I looked but could not find a thread for this question, so forgive me if it's already been discussed.
Does anyone have the real story about how she came to be know as Stevie?
Thanks &

Thanks for your quick response. I can believe that would be how she came up with it! :)

I have heard about the TD or "Teedee", but I just figured it's because Stevie is a common abbreviation of Stephanie...

First, welcome to The Ledge! You can also read this answer from Stevie on The Nicks Fix in the "ask Stevie section": (http://www.nicksfix.com). It's question #71. It's not updated very often, as Stevie has been on the road or taking a short vacation for the past several years, but if you've not seen it, it's worth checking out:

I could not pronounce the word "Stephanie" when I was little. My proninciation of it came out as "TeeDee", which was turned into Stevie. My mother still calls me "TeeDee".

She named herself. Her mother has stated that when she was little and learning to talk, she referred to herself as "teedee." Pretty cute, huh?

suuuuure... but not quite as cute as a little kid referring to herself in the third person.

Picturing her writing school essays as a little kid, using I and she interchangeably, & throwing in ellipses.

One thing I have been curious about is the spelling of her name. On the Buckingham Nicks album, it is spelled Stevi. I have been wondering for awhile if that was the way she spelled it throughout high school and added the "e" to the end when she joined Fleetwood Mac. Maybe people were pronouncing it incorrectly when it was spelled Stevi?
I really do love her name. Stevie Nicks. Very cool. I love Lindsey's too. Both are very different and distinct plus they flow together nicely, Stevie and Lindsey.

Or writing in tongues, like on her family tree report: "Sister...brothuh, sistuh...ihui dcuhuiuiuiiugiguivwoocvio3uiwipwpp!"
Not to mention twirling and kicking during her oral reports. Ah, to have taught this child.

Well, adding the e at the end only made people call her Lindsey. ;)

Stevie Nicks is a name that has snap and still flows well.
Definitely the best of the choices, Stevie Nicks  :
