What's the best meal you've ever eaten?
Mine was at Delmonico's, which is Emeril Lagasse's restaurant at The Venetian in Las Vegas 1/02. I had steak and my friend & I split a bottle of syrah (is that right?) I'm not a wine person, but this was just perfect with the meal. I've never tasted anything like it before or since.
Honorable mention to mom's lasagna every Christmas. :D

The best meals i've ever had are at a place called Carl's. It's down the stairs and into my dining room -- great Italian food. Except I have to bus my own table :distress: Seriously, we never eat Italian out -- my dad is the best chef

The best meals depends on the company. A bowl of cheerios for dinner is great if you are eating it with the right person.

-My friend Heidi's signature meal is wonderful - lasagna, garlic bread, and dirt cake
-Chicken teriyaki, potted bread with strawberry butter at Patti's Restaurant
-Anything at two local restaurants - Dudley's and Desha's

Can I ask You something? What is garlic bread? I see in movies that's usually seen as something Italian, but we really don't eat anything like that as a habit.

sourdough, butter, garlic. delish. come to think of it, my grandma didn't really make garlic bread, either.

I've seen it made lots of ways. Usually Italian bread covered in garlic, butter, and cheese. I think it's more Americanized Italian -- the fattening stuff.

It sounds interesting. :) The only thing that is a bit close to it, is what we call bruschetta, a slice of toasted bread (our typical bread called casareccio), on which we brush some garlic and add olive oil, sometimes tomatoes, etc. For us is an appetizer before pizza, usually.

The best garlic bread is at Bob Chinn's, outside of Chicago. And it's not even an Italian place - it's seafood.
The best meal I ever had was Mexican at Don's in Lake Havasu, Arizona. Sadly, Don retired a while ago and sold the place.

Yeah, garlic bread is typically even simpler than bruschetta. Usually, it's sourdough bread (often a baguette cut once lengthwise) with a mix of butter & garlic on top, & then broiled lightly or toasted. Sometimes it's topped with parsley or melted cheese, but often it's just plain.
It's often served as a side in Italian restaurants in America, but you see it at a lot of different kinds of places, like barbecue joints & even standard coffee shops. Americans really grow up on it.

I really can't remember a single best meal, but several come to mind: Morton's of Chicago (porterhouse steak) in Sacramento, the cioppino at Scoma's in Sausalito, a Japanese sushi restaurant here in Monterey Park once prepared a special thank-you meal for us that was filled with the most amazing sushi I've ever eaten, the dungeoness crab pie at Phil's Fish Market in Moss Landing ... plus dozens of amazing meals cooked by mother, sisters, aunts, etc., for family occasions.
My favorite down-home, good-time, relaxing, atmospheric restaurant, however, is still -- all these years later -- North Woods Inn.

Bruschetta is very good. I miss living with my Italian mom. :D
Friends of my parents used to have a Vietnamese restaurant. Ate there for a birthday and a few other occasions before the place went bust.. it's so delicate and delicious, I love Vietnamese food. One thing I made at home for christmas once, it's very thin ricemeal pancakes that you fill with various things, fresh vegetables, some meat or shrimps, fresh herbs (especially coriandre/cillantro or whatever you call it) and a chilidip.. mmmmm!!!

It's always served chilled, & sometimes comes with peanut sauce or sweet fish sauce for dipping. It usually has prawns (or shrimp), cilantro, bean sprouts, & sometimes even a little bit of chicken or pork -- all wrapped inside that wonderful rice paper.
You can be comfortable in any neighborhood you move into ... once you find a great Vietnamese restaurant.

One of the best meals I ever had was while traveling in Costa Rica. A couple of friends and I took a little boat to a remote village on the Caribbean side of the country where we hired a guide to take us hiking into the jungle. After a day of hiking our guide got in a canoe, went out into the ocean and caught our dinner. He cooked the fish (I think it was red snapper but I'm not sure) over a fire, along with black beans and rice. I don't really care for fish but it was sooo good... or maybe I was just REALLY hungry from a day of hiking? :p
One more REALLY good meal I had was at a Chinese restaurant... in Venice, Italy! A friend raved about it so I had to check it out when I went to Venice. My friend was right, I ate there two nights in a row!

Wow, nice. I think your first story the meal was great because of how hungry you were. Hehe. I have had some great stuff while traveling too.
In San Fran I had this seafood dish with mussels and a broth that was really good. The best part though was their chewey bread dipped in this, it was heavenly. But I have no idea where I was. Lol.
In Vegas I had the best California roll ever, they used real crabmeat instead of the standard imitation stuff. It was the Asian fusion place in Caesar's who's name escapes me at the moment.
Fugakyu in Brookline has the most amazing sushi, omigod. I love fresh mozzarella prociutto, basil, and olive oil subs from the north end. Mmm. Any food there is good.
Bagels on Long Island, they really are better there somehow, they were amazing.
Texas Roadhouse fillet, omigod for 13.99 you can get a little fillet, just enough, and a wonderful salad or whatever 2 sides you want. Plus their homemade squishy rolls with cinnamon/honey butter. Its a chain so if you've seen one and haven't gone, GO!
I love everything, I could be here all day.

YUM!! I love their rolls and cinnamon/honey butter!! I went there with some friends a couple of months ago and I'd never been there before. It was great! I had the chicken strips and fries. I don't eat steak, so.....
I can't really recall the best meal I've ever had. I've had lots of good ones, but I'm also VERY picky and am easily pleased with just a good burger and fries. LOL T

My mom's tacos.
Any pasta by my grandma (she puts meatballs and pepperoni!)
Most of my best meals out have involved Salmon. This salmon w/capers thing I had in Chico for my 21st birthday comes to mind. The hamburger I had in vegas at the Irish place at New York hotel was fabulous. Now, I like hamburgers, but this hamburger was above and beyond any hamburger I'd ever tasted.
I like most everything, so it's hard to pick. I love unagi at a good sushi place. Which there are about a billion of around my house, and in the city. Also, any sandwich I've made where I had all the ingredients I wanted. I make kick ass sandwiches.
Mexican food is almost always good. Such basic ingredients, so it's hard to pick the best. Mainly I judge by the salsa. :)

Yes, of course her meatballs are the best. She is italian. Also, somehow, I don't like any vinegar/oil dressing as much as the one my fam makes.
It's weird, it's mainly just vinegar and oil...very mysterious. but the gran makes a tomato/celery salad that is too die for.
My freezer is not stock full of that, though I wish it was. And, yes, I know It's healthy. I constantly nag my friend who doesn't like fish to take her omega 3 pills. But I wish she would just eat fish. :) She doesn't like nuts, either, so I'm very worried! :p
Salmon is expensive, unfortunately, but I buy it from whole foods anyway. I haven't had any this month, sadly. And my cats love the skin, which I feed to them. BTW, Salmon with Capers is awesome. Obviously, it's better if it is a lighter tasting salmon, but you can't really tell, and salmon is strong fish anyways. Okay, end of salmon love dissertation. I'm kind of a dork, I could talk about food for a long time. :D

Thai seafood soup. I don't even like the seafood (except the scallops). But this blend of herbs and spices is the best ever known. If you get a chance, ever, order Thai seafood soup. And if you don't like the seafood part (like me) pick it out, or just order the broth. Sesly, the blend of spices is....coldgasmic. (It can cure your cold, and it's orgasmic). :woohoo: I order it with all scallops, because non fried shrimp makes me barf. :) I don't like the oysters that much, either.
