Anyone ever notice that in all the live versions of "Stand Back" from 1983-1986, a drum machine was used as the main beat instead of the drummer?? in some performances, both were used... but the main kick was from a drum machine... when i listen to all those boots of "stand back", i cant help but think how kickin' those performances were, at least from a musical standpoint... some of the more recent live versions of "stand back", namely from the "enchanted" and "tisl" tours, were pretty weak-sounding in comparison...

i wonder why she did away with the drum machine.. i think that song kinda needs it, unless she has a really good drummer (which she does now on this current tour, imo)...

I've always thought the music in WH tour version was the best. This must be why. That and Ms. Bobbye Hall.

Glad that Stevie has a good drummer this tour, but his hair is a bit difficult to look at.

The Wildheart Version was one of the best..I think now...the beat and the percussion are just as good as back in 1983...I have noticed that you can really hear the tss tss...tss tss sound hahaha try making the noise outload...you will get my meaning. :]

Good way to explain it... Tss..Tss.. I love that sound... It's cool and so random.

i know what u mean ;)

not for anything, but Mark Schulman's beat made "Stand Back" sound like it was playing in a garage somewhere... no bass to his drumkit whatsoever... too tin-ey sounding

No drum machine can ever beat a real drummer (I'm a percussionist myself, so I am a bit biased)!!! I do agree that on some tours Stand Back was a bit weak, though definitely not Enchanted! I didn't care much for the Street Angel and TISL-versions, nor the Wild Heart-version, but loved the OSOTM, Enchanted and 2005 versions. The Whole Lotta Trouble Tour-version is so great too, in spite of Stevie's vocals... And that was the tour that introduced the "false ending"!

I especially like the current tour's version, the percussion intro is not that long and she kicks a** vocally and in her performance! And her new drummer is one of the best she has had in a long time.

It was all very, very exciting: what happened was that after Leather & Lace, the stage lights went low & the drum machine was started. During that part, Bobbye Hall did her conga stuff -- sometimes for 2 minutes or more -- & then Liberty got seated (in the dark) at his kit & kicked it in to the bass & synth part.

So it all slowly grew in intensity until Stevie finally made her way onstage. It was really great.

i disagree with the "Street Angel" version... i think Russ Kunkel did an amazing job on drums for that tour... the kick was definately apparent.. the same cannot be said for the "Enchanted" tour version, imo

well i agree with that

Jimmy Paxton is one of the best drummers she's had in a long long time...

the TOSOTM version of "stand back" was probably the worst performance ever of this song...

No that would be the TISL version. Please take a listen to Jones Beach 01 or Detroit 01, you will be devastated.

For the TISL tour...I saw her in Hartford and Mansfield and Atlantic City and it sounded good...but like she wasnt twirling...the only time she was animated was during the AC show...kinda disapointing the other 2 times..ya know

Nah, too much of those unnecessary electronic tom-beats on that tour's version! :sorry:
