Here ya go, Hawkeye! ;)

To me, this song is just OK. It's not a favorite, but I don't dislike it either. The music is very pretty, but nothing spectacular. It sounds like a country song (not that there's anything wrong with that.) I'm surprised they released it as a single - it did hit #32, though, according to Nicksfix. Not too bad, but disappointing compared to Edge, L&L or SDMHA's chart positions.

Favorite lyrics:

"the dream keeps coming even when you forget to feel"

"even thought the living is sometimes laced with lies"

I am glad she did this live on Enchanted, if only to hear something different than her usual setlist. I think she handled the vocals extremely well & still could. I wouldn't really want to see it back in the setlist, though. Too slow.

*Sorry, my computer's acting screwy & I couldn't post a poll*

I love it. I also liked it live when she did it on the Enchanted tour!

This is a slightly more complicated one to answer. I always think I don't like this song - I don't like the opening bars, I don't like the first line. But... if I don't get to the CD changer fast enough and wind up listening to it, I do find myself singing along, and even liking it. I definitely like the words better than the music in this one. I'm a sucker for pain and heartbreak, and I love the lonliness and sadness of it.

My fave lines:

For me...it's the only life
That I've ever known
And love is only one fine star away

I can relate to this line - it talks to me (wow - do I ever sound flakey!! ) To me it says, I've sacrificed so much for this life, I love what I do, I wouldn't change it, but I do wish I had someone to share it with. And that was so prophetic of Stevie's life, and it's one part of her writing that I understand, too.

*sob* *sniff* *sob* Oh, man! That's a little too heavy for so early in the morning! (yes, this is early for me)

I'm torn. I like the lyrics but I'm not a huge fan of the melody.

I like "Glitter." It doesn't have that brazenly in-your-face appeal of Stevie's better-known pop songs, but it is actually one of her best song-qua-song works: in terms of construction, it's nearly a perfect little work. The parts all fit snugly into the whole; the lines scan with the proper foot count in almost all stanzas; the music enhances rather than overshadows the import of the lyric; the arc of the melodic line weaves its way through the fabric in a standard binary format; & the cadenza-like final measures with their suspended vocal are a masterly summation of both the chord progression (modulating from the tonic to the subdominant, back to the tonic & then forward to the dominant) & the form in general.

The song has had its major fans (Robert Hilburn of the L.A. Times, Jim Ladd) & its detractors (Rolling Stone's Bella Donna reviewer).

I love the song lyrics but i'll agree, the music isn't anything to write home about. However, live, it's amazing. It's a very honest song, IMO.

This is actually one of my favorite Stevie songs - I just really really like it - always have.

I think my favorite line is, "The lonliness of a one-night-stand is hard to take"

OK actually I like the whole section:

"The loneliness of a one night stand
Is hard to take
We all chase something
And maybe this is a dream
The timeless face of a rock and roll
Woman...while her heart breaks
Oh you know...the dream keeps coming
Even when you forget to feel"

So good...LOVE it.

It's okay. I used to like it much more in my early fan days, but the appeal has lessened some for me. And that's strange, cause I usually like her "country-ish" songs.

It made a great ending to side one during the album days.

I think ATGF is one of BD's lesser songs. I do love the lines:

Oh you know...the dream keeps coming
Even when you forget to feel

It's an alright song for when you're in a country mood.

I hated ATGF the first few times I heard it but it has grown on me. I usually don't like country sounding songs so that is the main reason but after listening a few times I can definitely deal with it. It's very catchy and I'm always singing it for a while after I hear it. Like someone else said when I first hear it I'm kind of like "oh no" but after it plays for a few seconds I want to keep listening.

I actually think this is one of Stevie's best song. In a universal sense, it has a mass appeal beyond her persona....much like Landslide. The fact that it's been covered several times shows that other artists have connected with it. For example, I can't see many people connecting with Edge Of Seventeen.
I don't like country music, yet I like when Stevie does country. (I love the Highway Man!) Even though she is the consumate rock and roller, she comes off very authentic. (Must be channeling the muse of her grandfather.)

The only lines in the song that somewhat irk me are: "What I SEEM to touch these days has turned to gold. What I SEEM to want..." In a literal sense that really makes no sense! I think what she was reaching for was something like "What I touch seems to turn to gold...what I what want..it seems I find a way."

Don't make me go through my Seven Wonders diatribe  She says a lot of things that make no sense but you can't tell her to change it because "it's beautiful!" :p

I love all of Belladonna so once again I have the same answer for each song: I love it. I actually like some of the other songs on the album better but this was one of the first songs that got me into Stevie. Even though I don't like country music I really like all of Stevie's country-ish songs.

Easily the worst song on Bella Donna. I cant say I HATE it, but its almost always beign skipped by me, I really dont care for it. The only one on Bella Donna I dont care for. I do like the whole line of "The Feeling remains even after the glitter fades" its a great line that applies to almost anything, but thats not saving the song!

I'm ambivalent about this song: the album version is a bit lame for me, but I love many of the demos, especially the one with the mandolin.

I love the lyrics. Like someone said, it is a very honest, straightforward song. The country feel to it gives it a certain kind of edge. I've always thought it was weird that she was talking about the Hollywood life...the rock and roll, but the song is country? That's our Stevie.

btw...the mandolin should have stayed in the final product.

When I first heard this, I was disappointed because it has such a "country" influence, even though I love country music, I want my rock stars to actually be rock and rollers and I dont think thats happening here. However, having listened to BellaDonna on repeat 10 times in a row, I really started to love the lyrics. So sad and beautiful and more so because they are prophetic for Stevie, not with hingsight. I actual like singing along to this one more than others.

So for me, lyrics - yes, music - not so much, song overall - me likee!

ATGF is one of my all time favorites. I love that song! Love the words. Love the music. Love the message. Most inspiring line?

"What I seem to want well you know I'll find a way"

"Seem" suggests future tense and SN did write this before they had any success - Freudian slip, perhaps?
Although, tenses and making sense never really bothered Stevie's songwriting, so maybe she just needed to fit a word in there... works with "what I seem to want..."

I'm a country music freak . Stevie is to me is the country music qween. besides
Tammy,Loretta,Patsy,Dolly and Shania. Stevie can sing country from the heart
period..... I remember the first time I herd that song on country radio, I said thats Stevie. I almost died. It should went to number 1 on the country billboard chart .

Well, you couldn't say that to Bob Dylan.

Sorry - couldn't resist. :]

I like it ok. It's pretty good. The thing I like most about it, now, is how it's prophetic. She wrote it before she was famous, but it's all mapped out there. I like how it makes me think stevie really had a plan, and stuck to it. And how she already knew how she would feel when it all happened to her. That kind of ambition and emotional planning makes me happy. :D

I love it. My favorite Stevie song is Twisted and on the Enchanted tour, I thought she blew that one big time. The song, tried to stay true to the demo, instead of LB's fantastic production...Anyhoo, ATGF was one of those songs that I totally enjoyed during that tour. I loved how Stevie came out in that beautiful reddish dress and her vocals were so heartfelt. Mindy Stein added so much to this song live...I remember really feeling blown away by it in 98. Completely the opposite from the feeling I got from Twisted. Love....hate. High...low.
I always liked it on the BD album too but after seeing it live in 98, it took the song to a whole new level for me.

Remember years ago debating what the line "the loneliness of a one night stand is hard to take" mean? I always felt that line referred to gigs, ....but so many people thought it was a sexual encounter. Funny!
