I guess I'm really in the mood to start threads tonight. I was thinking about quotes I've read from Stevie and from other artists about Stevie (artists that she was a fan of). I remember reading something a long time ago about how excited Stevie was to be meeting the Eagles and how much of a fan she was. Then, she had relationships with at least three of the members and just toured with Don. Someone here also posted about Tom Petty's first impression when he met Stevie. He said "she was a stoned gone fan". Then of course she went on to record with him and became one of his closest friends. Also, in Storytellers, some guy during the Q&A said something about how he knew Stevie was a groupie (lol) and then after she got a funny look on her face, he tried to sort of talk his way out of it. But seriously, she was probably as big of a fan of some of these artists as we are of her. So, I wonder what it's like for her now to be their friends, record with them, have relationships with them and be in their inner circle. It would be like one of us becoming good friends with her. I just wonder what she thinks and if deep in her heart, she still is a "stoned gone fan".

I think she considers herself a diehard fan of many who came before her, someone who has earned her place with her contemporaries, and a mentor/role model for the next generation. I think she's still at least a little blown away by Joni, Janis, Dylan, etc.
Then again, she did say she chickened out of calling Sting, who's her age.

For Bombay Sapphires, so she ended up with Macey.
Which is cool, because I can't stand Sting.

Didn't she kind of make a face because the guy said, Jackson Browne, in addition to Tom Petty? Then she kind of rolled her eyes and did that bowing thing?
I don't think Tom Petty would still say that about her because they are so much closer now. It is cool how she goes on to record with these people and sometimes has these wonderful affairs with them.

Haha - I always thought she got that weird look on her face because of the word "groupie!" While the word originally meant just a real die-hard fan, I think it's taken on its own definition since oh, the 60s or 70s... Maybe that sort of threw her off! I think she wouldn't put herself in the same category as Sweet Connie.
