New topic. What's up with the chick on the back of Go Insane? What is that her feet are on? A foot massager? A rug? A bubble bath submerged below the floor? And why is Lindsey so angry with her? She seems awfully upset about the situation, what with her head being hung in shame and all. Is he mad at her for splashing water all over his freshly scrubbed black tile floor? It was clearly an accident. Just look at that innocent face of hers. You can't stay mad at that forever. But he must have said something that he shouldn't have because it appears as though he has been banished to the harsh elements of the outside world (see front cover). He barely even had time to put his jacket one. His hair all disheveled. All he has to greet him outside is the cold wind and the dark storm coulds approaching from the west. Which brings up another question. Is he floating? Did he leave the argument and possibly leave the relationship and walk out the door into heaven? Maybe it was the best thing to ever happen to him. He thought that he was in heaven when he was with her, but it turns out, heaven was waiting for him on the way out. Or maybe she killed him (figuratively?) and he didn't know being with her was so destructive until he walked out the door and found heaven. Of course, he could be on ground. But is he vertical? Or horizontal? There are too many unanswered questions. Not to mention that wrong note he hit during the Rhiannon solo in Japan 1977. I mean, 1982, sure, he hit wrong notes all the time. But 1977? I don't think so.

Special kudos directed in an outwardly direction towards the general area of lagringader&r for aiding in the birth of several of the brilliant insights included above.

Ok, even though I participated in the making of the above brilliance, I can't stand to see this thread wither away without a reply. I also always reply to the threads with no replies. I am take-pity-on-the-thread-chick. So this thread will have one reply. GI is the only Lindsey I have and I don't have it with me so I have to go from memory. I do remember the cd covers pretty well because I thought they were interesting. I remember the room being girly and frilly so I think it's her place, not his. She was naked and in a chair with something draped over the chair (her clothes? a towel?). So, either out of a shower or out of somewhere else. *Ahem* I remember a rug, but the rug was very thick (so it did almost look like a big bubblebath). Her head was in her lap. You couldn't see her face, BoBo. That's all I remember about her. He looked pissed off and he was fully dressed, so I'm thinking she just had a shower? I do think the front cover of the door was after their thing in the room. I think if it would have been in order, the front cover should have been the back. It looked like a door to heaven. It's hard to say if he was vertical or horizontal. I remember he looked demonic. I wish I had the cd with me so I could look at it again but I always thought the back cover was interesting. Why was she naked? Why was he not? Were they fighting? Was she driving him insane or him driving her insane? On the front cover, was it a door to heaven and why? There were clouds. You're right, there are too many unanswered questions. I love to look at cd covers and try to figure out what they mean. As for the bum notes, hasn't he always hit bum notes? Even in 1977? Which bum note was it? Shall shall shall.

I appreciate the pity. If the room was hers, maybe he's just so obsessive compulsive that any room that he's in must be spotless. She could be so fed up with his problem that she's becoming awfully frustrated, hence the head between knees. And he's angry at her for not loving him for who he is. "I didn't choose to like cleanliness," he says. Maybe the covers are out of order because of the aforementioned events, and everything is insane/he is now insane, so time is even all out of whack. This event is why he's Go[ing] Insane! So insane that time doesn't flow quite the way it used to. Or maybe she cured him of his need for everything to be just so, and he shows it to the world by having his front and back covers mixed up. The 1977 wrong note I'm referring to is when he was sliding up to a higher note, I think. I may have to watch it again. But he obviously made a terrible mistake on the way up. Anyone who has seen it surely can back me up on this.

I didnt have the patience to read all of that, but I will say the woman on the back cover to Go Insane is BEAUTIFUL. Whatta body. Lindsey would be nuts if he wasnt "hittin" that.

Patience is a virtue.

I am sure Lindsey was "hittin" that but if memory serves, the chick's face on the back cover of GI is not at all visible and only the side of her body. How do you know she is beautiful? But yes, whatta half a body! And, Lindsey wasn't nuts. He was INSANE. In all fairness, she could have been the insane one though. Shouldn't judge. Impossible to judge. We cannot judge the unhappy couple.

Yes, I agree that Clincal insanity is quite the taboo subject , and may I suggest we all tread lightly as talk of the before mentioned subject, As it could result in banning and/or hand smacking of the offending party....

ah yes Kinky, Another subject that tends to raise eyebrows , mostly out of curiosity but it could also offend, and once more I suggest,Tread lightly...

Ah yes, my documentary. Treading lightly is a game that many of us take for granted. A game that can have deadly consequences. Sometimes when you're off with your friends, caught up in the moment, you can do some things you might come to regret in the coming winter months. But just remember, as long as you always wear your disestablishmentarianism cloak, you will remain the favorite in the animal kingdom.

Clinical insanity is a delicate subject. We feel ridiculed.
Thanks Lux. Seriously.

I think it might have been Les, ages ago, who said she thought the naked woman in the fetal position was a symbol of vulnerability. That rings true to me, but it's not only about vulnerability, it's about trying to protect oneself despite that vulnerability. Look how she is holding her hair to cover her face. http://www.buckinghamnicks.net/lb/images/LBuckGIBack.JPG . I could go on with my ideas about the symbolism of the photo in greater detail incorporating the other aspects of it but I think that if I did so, mylittledemon wouldn't be the only one skimming and yawning.

So I'll just say, overall, despite Lindsey's high hair, the cover art (back and front, but especially back) for that album is wonderfully done. I wonder if Lindsey helped design it - I wouldn't be surprised.

Thanks for posting the pic. I hadn't seen that cover in a while but I remembered thinking it was very interesting. I keep up much more with Stevie than Lindsey, but I think all cd/album covers tell a story and this is one (of many) I didn't understand. I'd like to hear your theories on the symbolism, even if you think others might tune out. The vulnerablity thing sounds like it could be what the symbolism was. What was she protecting herself from or why was she protecting herself from being vulnerable? What is draped over the chair? Her clothes or a towel? Why was he fully dressed? Do you think the front cover was after whatever happened on the back or is it not related at all? Doesn't anybody else like to look at a pic and try to figure it out? Especially cd covers? Thanks.

I love the painting--the choice of artwork is very important. In that cold, harsh scene, in the backround is a reminder that he is "going insane" and whatever is happening may be out of his control.

But I think SHE is going insane. I think she is the one who lost control, she is a mess. Because she has gone insane, he has gone insane because of his love for her.

To me, I see a story of him and his girlfriend, and he caught her in the act of doing something wrong--and she was already naked when he caught her...I see him storming in, maybe he threw her clothes or they were there...but he is clothes because he walked into another of her mess's. Notice her clothes are all white..the shoes, the other clothes around it, her robe...I wonder if that's kind her innocence stripped off her, on the floor, because she is tainted now...

But I also get this from the album, all those lyrics of lust and insanity.

This was interesting and it all makes sense. I always got the feeling that cover had a story behind it.
