View Full Version : concerts you missed and are kicking yourself for

I, in my frequent state of retardation, forgot to go to a concert once. I had tickets for Buffy Sainte-Marie and completely forgot about the show until my sister called at around 10:30 and said "Uhhhh... wasn't Buffy tonight?" Apparently the show was fantastic and I can't believe I missed it!
Another was in 1996, I think. The Cure played in Vancouver and I was a student at the time, so clearly couldn't go. Word on the street is they sang Love Cats and played for like three hours. Sigh...
My mother missed an opportunity to see Elvis by one day. She still is "reeling! It hurts [her] feelings!" over it! And I'm pretty sure "it hurts [her] self esteem. it hurts [her] everything!"
My dad missed a chance to see Roy Orbison and kicks himself over that one too. And the reason! They got too drunk to make it! WHAAAAT???? Yet, funny!

Oh, God. This is an easy one:
Fleetwood Mac on The Dance Tour.
Stevie on the Enchanted tour.
Stevie on the TISL Tour.

Lindsey's Soundstage show. I will forever want to kill myself for not going to C-Town. :(
I wish I had been an LB fan back in the day so I could have seen the OOTC tour. I would have been about 17 in 1993.

One more for me. Before I saw the film Ray, I didn't know Ray Charles' music very well but now I absolutely love it! He was here maybe 5 years ago. That would have been something. And the best part is a friend of mine went and he had an announcer who said, between every song, "Ladies and gentlemen... Ray Charles." She said he laughed hysterically every time he said it, 'cause he said it totally schmultzy!

"Enchanted" tour - Radio City Music Hall :distress:
i went to the Jones Beach and Holmdel shows, but not the NYC show.... as it turned out, NYC was the best show of the three and one of the best on the entire tour... She hadn't played Radio City since the "Wild Heart" tour, and hasn't played there since... i will always regret not going to that show :(

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on tour for "The Last DJ."
I even had a ticket to go see him at the Sleep Train, but the person I was supposed to go with bailed on me. :(
I ended up using the ticket as a bookmark for awhile, but then lost it altogether.

I wish I could have seen Buckingham/nicks back in 1973. Okay I was only a wee lad, and had no idea who the were, and didn't live anywhere near where they played. I still wish I would have seen them though. And let's not forget Fritz back in the late 60's. Can you imagine seeing Stevie open for Janice Joplin? *sigh* oh well......

Had a chance to see the Mac on "The Dance" tour and didnt go. I wasn't that into them at the time...I had only heard "Silver Springs" from the album. Late that year near Christmas I just went Mac-nuts...I've been kicking myself ever since.
The only other group I wish I had seen is Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers...but he is still touring so I may catch him eventually.

Truthfully, the Cher Farewell Tour was pretty lame. I really like Cher, but she did so many costume changes and took FOREVER to come back on stage. You'd get super excited while she did three songs or so and then she'd disappear while they basically played the entire Silkwood film! Then, she'd come back out and you'd get excited again and she'd disappear again. Eventually, we just stopped getting excited. She kept pointing at me in the audience though. So, that was cool! She looked great too. But honestly, don't be too devastated about missing that one. Beh.

I feel so bad I missed that show. I wanted to go but the seats were like $400 a pop and I had just seen Fleetwood Mac multiple times, so it wasn't really in the cards. Oh well, hopefully she'll tour again.

And I thought Stevie changed her clothes too much... Seriously, I get peeved that Stevie does five songs and then leaves for five minutes, so I guess I would have been annoyed with Cher too.

I LOVE Joni Mitchell too! I saw her play the Edmonton Folk fest in 1993. The thing is, I only knew her earlier work at the time and had no idea her voice had changed so much from all the years of smoking. So, I was expecting her to sound like Blue or Ladies of the Canyon. At the time, I was really disappointed in her voice. So, that is one concert I would really like to experience again. 'Cause in retrospect, she was fantastic but at the time I didn't appreciate it. WOULD LOVE to see her again and she truly never plays live. Like maybe MAYBE one show a year.

New Order this year, should've gone to Sweden to see them a while ago, but couldn't find anyone to attend the festival they were playing in with. And now I wish I would've gone there alone. http://tcwozere.co.uk/smileys/banghead.gif

Not going to count all those mac concerts in the USA since I've became a fan, I simply didn't have the money so that was out of reach anyway.

Fleetwood Mac September 2003 at the Fleet Center Boston.. I was poor and had no vacation time left to take but I wish I could have been there.
And after reading all the concert reviews from Stevie's current tour, I wish I could have seen her when she was here on the east coast but again the money factor :(
I would have loved to have seen Journey in 1981-1983.

Sadly, there have been a regrettable few:
1. 1976 - Pink Floyd - Anaheim Stadium, CA
2. 1977 - Lynard Skynard - Anaheim Stadium, CA
3. 1997 - Fleetwood Mac - Rose Garden, Portland, OR
4. 2002 - The Cure - Tempodrom, Berlin
5. 2005 - Stevie Nicks - Red Rocks, CO
1. I missed because my b/f and I broke up just before the show - 500 people were arrested that night for possession of pot.
2. I missed because my friend and I got tickets then b/f wouldn't let me go because we didn't get him one. Their plane crashed shortly after that show.
3. Day late and a dollar short.
4. Ditto.
5. Just dollar short.
I have attended MANY excellent shows over the years, including The Ramones, Bowie, The Stones and U2 coming up. So unless I want to change my last name to "Banger" - I shouldn't be too upset over the ones I missed. Numbers 1, 3 and 4 cause me the most grief tho.. mostly because there will never be another chance for shows on the same magnatude.

only a couple come to mind:
Guns N Roses/Smashing Pumpkins April 6,1992-Oklahoma City, OK (Was attempting to move that day...And the move fell through, As did any chance of seeing this show. At least GNR's portion was professionally recorded so I did eventually get to see this show, Which included about 20-30 minutes of boob shots before GNR took the stage.)
Stevie Nicks/Vanessa Carlton July 17,2005-Grand Prairie, TX (Didnt want to chance yet another ER visit by attending and making myself even more ill..."Ya win some, And ya lose some")

Heart - around 1991 or 92. I had to work. They never came around here again.
Petty - Last DJ Tour. I finally made up for this when I caught him last month.
Pat Benatar - played a FREE show downtown at Thursday in the Square around 2002. I would have been annoyed with the 200,000 people who showed up, but I should have gone anyway. I also missed her when she came to UB the next summer.
Nirvana - they played a small college show here before they hit it big. 1989 or 90, I think.
Bruce - Summer 2003 - he came twice & I didn't bother. I'm not that huge a fan, but I like his music & I hear he's never put on a bad show.
Stevie Enchanted Tour - I wasn't obsessed enough to travel in order to see her yet. Also, I should have gone to the 9-10-01 Toronto show instead of holding out for the 9-12 Rochester show, which was cancelled.

Easy one: Fleetwood Mac 7/7/1977, Providence, RI. I was just becoming a big fan at that time and the show was sold out. I had no idea that people would most likely be selling tickets outside the venue or that the venue might even have tickets that night. I thought that sold out meant forget it and I did not even ask my parents because unlike Alex's parent mine were pretty darn clueless.
I did get to see Lindsey in Boston at the Paradise nightclub and the next night he played in CT. I had no idea were the venue was located, where to get tickets, etc. Now with the Internet you can buy tickets, print out a map, find a hotel close to the venue, etc. I still kind of have regrets that I just did not call up my friend and say let's just go to CT to see Lindsey.
Also when I went to see Lindsey in Boston I did not go up to the front of the stage. I don't know why maybe because I was too shy.
I did not have any problem flirting with Walter Egan in 1978 at Rocky Point Park in Warwick, RI, however. I was right in the front row and I was 13.

I was going to list Nirvana too. Once again, an ex had tickets. He wanted me to go even tho we weren't together, but I turned it down. They played at the local armory. He said Cobain never looked up, just stood and played with his head hanging, hair in his face and eyes closed. Within weeks he was dead. I never really got into Nirvana.

It's a 2 and a half to three hour drive - the only problem is only one full-timer is allowed to be off on any given day -and my news director is off that whole week - so we're all stuck here...
and I can't leave early because my day ends with my air shift - so I'm tied to the board from 4-6:30 - then I have to do a couple of recorded newscasts :distress: So it's pretty much a wash - can't go :(

I am dying to see the Stones, but I just can't bring myself to fork over the money for the ridiculously expensive tickets!!!! I'm not sitting in the nosebleeds for $250 per ticket. It has been this way for five tours, and that is why I still haven't gone. I know I'm going to regret it though. :distress:
Also, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were in Nashville on Wednesday last week. I was dying to go, but I had to teach/run cheerleading camp for 100 girls. I live three and half hours from Nashville, so I just could not go and be back ready to cheer/dance at 8:30 A.M. I'm not a happy camper. :distress: I hope he tours again in the next few years. :distress:

The Ferry takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes :(
Really? I thought it was a big time saver. What the hell's the point? No wonder the first owners went under.

LOL - well under the first owner it only took 1 hour 55 minutes!! Apparently - these guys are taking it a little slower to save money on fuel etc.
Well it takes like three hours to drive - so it's a small saver...I do want to take it eventually - it just can't get me to Toronto to see Dolly :distress:

I'm feeling a bit better about that one now that I've heard how it actually was.

I met John Waite in 2001. He was very nice. I got a promo copy of his album "Figure in a Landscape" at the party.
I envy you. I've been wanting to see him in concert for years, but to meet him would be a dream come true. :)
