Well if anyone else is a fan of this movie I would like to tell you that they are remaking this movie and it should be out early next year. I loved this movie when I first saw it. Even though the middle is a little weak the beginning and ending make up for it. I should also add that they are remaking the sequel (When a Stranger Calls Back) that was made for TV in 93 and I must say it was pretty damn good. Carol Kane was perfect for the original, I wonder if she'll make a candid appearance in the new one?
Any thoughts?

The beginning of that movie is horrifying. I still find it horrifying to this day. I know a lot of people don't care for the middle section with Colleen Dewhurst, but I find it quite disturbing and unsettling.
They're also remaking my beloved Don't Look Now, which they will all burn in hell for. What's next? Videodrome? Halloween? The Bad Seed? Freaks? I mean, c'mon.

I LOVE that movie. Just bought it a few months ago. Videodrome has caught my intrest but ive heard its more like a soft core porn than anything. Freaks would be an interesting remake IMO.

I actually just got When A Stranger Calls on Netflix and have yet to watch it again. I did see it a long time ago and remember it being pretty scary but I don't remember any details. I'm not big on remakes though so that doesn't really excite me.

I did like how they showed how the killer adapted to the outside world in the middle. Even though its a little slow it is still interesting. My mouth fell to the ground at the end I was NOT expecting it at all. Right after i got it I showed it to all my friends and everyone loved it.

No moreso than Don't Look Now. The scene in Don't Look Now goes on for 15 bloody minutes and it's rumoured that Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland actually had sex while it was being filmed.
Videodrome is great, as are most of Cronenberg's movies. The "stomach vagina" has to be seen to be believed, and it scores extra points for having a nude Debbie Harry. Great plot and James Woods is great.

I was just talking about the original the other night. I think the beginning is just about the best premise ever.
I still haven't seen the whole movie. I watched it my first time babysitting as a teenager, & the power went out in the freakin' neighborhood twenty minutes into the film right when she opens the front door to find the large guy standing there. I sat in the dark for 45 minutes. When the power came back on, Colleen Dewhurst was on the screen, and I turned it off. She scared me enough in Ice Castles as it is.

Ack, you saw the end first? That sucks. -_-
The first time I saw it, I was totally blown away by the twist at the end. I never saw it coming, though looking back and putting the pieces together it was pretty obvious. That movie is a masterpiece, I adore it.

I will.
I was in Austin last week & saw Hide & Seek, which sucked, of course, but I'm lamenting that none of my friends here likes horror movies at all. I rent them, but don't see them in the theater unless I'm out of town. So I guess I'll add WASC to the rental list.

Pay attention to everything. The ink that he spills in the beginning, the scene where he sees his wife and the two sisters dressed in black and on a passing boat, etc. It fits perfectly in the end.
The women are very creepy, but I think the entire movie is creepy and disconcerting. By the time the "chase" scene Christie, Sutherland, and the mysterious wee one in the red slicker came, I was exasperated. And the final confrontation killed me. It was so shocking and well-done that it was almost orgasmic.

Hide and Seek was putrid. DeNiro is a joke these days. A pale imitation of a man who was once one of the greatest actors around. I say they round up him and Cybill Shepherd for a Taxi Driver sequel. :p

Have you read the story by Daphne du Maurier? If you can find it at the library, I suggest reading it; it's really good and you won't be able to put it down. The one that I have is in a book with four other stories by her and they're all pretty darn good.

There was talk of a Halloween remake, but I don't think that will happen until the sequels are finished. Pt. 9 is in the works now! The remake of The Fog; however, will be out this October!

Yes, i keep hearing about Halloween 9. I have all of them on DvD and video and I love all of them (Even part 3). They are really going to have to pull some good stuff out for this one because they have basically killed off all the main, intresting, characters. Who knows maybe Laurie will have powers like her brother?
I am happy they are remaking the Fog thats a personal favorite of mine. It was such a great idea but they didnt portray it as well on the screen as it could have been, so maybe this one will be better? Love the idea of the movie though.

Yeah, the Halloween movies have always been favorites of mine. 3 was OK if you don't think of it as part of the series. There are always rumors that character of Laurie will return. JLC said she didn't want to do any more, but she said that after PT. 2 also. Money talks! And really, we never did see her body. Sure she got stabbed in the back and fell about 3 stories, but it's a horror movie, so anything is possible. I have a feeling they will do 10 and then end it, and I think if JLC doesn't come back for this one, they will offer her a ton of money to come back for the last one because most fans of the series want her to be the one to have the final showdown with Michael.
I love The Fog also. I wonder if they were thinking of our own Stevie when they named the character "Stevie Wayne"?

Yeah, they were both really great. I hadn't found out about them until recently when I was surfing a horror forum. Were they ever realeased in the theaters? Never heard of them until then.

I can't go through a horror movie thread here without mentioning the two laughably worst ones ever, Audrey Rose & that one from the early 80s about ghosts that had all the famous old actors in it & flopped. (I never remember the title, but somebody here always knows it.)

They both have stars in the cats, too!
Audrey Rose has Hannibal Lechter & (I think) Marsha Mason, & Ghost Story has some of the classic Hollywood guys who were on their last legs. Total wastes.
Horrible scripts. Horrible dialogue.

Audrey Rose is a guilty pleasure of mine, though it is bad, but Ghost Story is one of those movies where you can picture them all gathered in the editing room laughing at it.
If you want some good stuff, rent some stuff things from Dario Argento (his pre-1990's films). He used to make great horror movies.

Does anyone remember Lady In White with Katherine Helmond (Mona from Who's The Boss?) I remember it playing on HBO when I was a kid (5 or 6) and it used to absolutely scare the **** out of me.

Never saw it, but assuming it's based on the book.
My favorite Katherine Helmond was in Overboard, I think.

Yesssssssssssssss. Lucas Haas was in it, too. That is quite a scary movie. Scared me so much as a kid that I still find it to be disturbing, especially the scene where Haas' uncle is trying to break into the car to kill him.

YES. The whole scene where he finds his uncle in the yearbook and puts two and two together, then when his parents force him to go and practice archery with the creepy uncle. I haven't seen it in years but it was really a sick film.

Of course.
I remember when it came out on video, a lot was written about how it was doing much better on video than it had done in theaters.
These days the supermarkets here sell the DVD for $9.99 on special display bins.

That's so funny you mentione Audrey Rose! I just got it from Netflix a couple of weeks ago. I remembered my sister and I used to get so scared from watching it when we were little, especially when she burns her hands on the cold window! It wasn't as scary watching it as an adult though. The girl who played Ivy had a really annoying voice too.

You're kinder than I am. The trial scenes could have been written better by middle schoolers.

 It's no ghost story, just pre-face-surgery Goldie in a romantic comedy. Light fluff.
