Would you play Ledgie Survivor. If there are at least 12 Yes's the I think it should be done.

We already have people who regretably feel like outsiders... the last thing we need is a "game" that would seem to enforce the idea of cliques and popularity contests (even if the contestants are willing parties).

No way. Why pit people against each other? The idea of hierarchy this promotes - 'So and so is better than so-and-so' is very immature. I don't understand why anyone would want to volunteer for such a thing - maybe seeking validation or trying to prove something.... I don't know. I do know, however, that it would royally SUCK to be one of the losers. And I wouldn't be too entertained by the sycophants and kiss-butts coming out to "support" their buds either. Lame, lame, lame.

Sorry Hawkeye - not trying to attack you - just can't you see this is a bad idea, if you think about it?

The thing is, the outsiders who played would most likely win, and someone like Dissention (if he played) who is a clique leader would be one of the first to go for sure. I really think you guys are blowing this out of proportion.

I am? News to me. I thought I mostly pissed people off.

The whole Ledgie Survivor game is ridiculous. Why create more drama that is anything but necessary? As Nancy said earlier, seeing someone voted to Best Ledgie Ever!1!!!11! would be gag-inducing and the whole idea is just stupid, for lack of a better term. No one needs to be hurt or belittled by something as asinine as a Ledgie Survivor game.

I probably would not participate in a Ledgie Survivor, mostly because I'm not on the Ledge as much as I used to be.

I personally would not care one way or the other if I got voted off early. (since I know I've made ssoo many friends here. cough, cough) But some people probably would take it seriously and it might not be a good idea.

As to the idea of there being "cliques" and "clique leaders," I wasn't aware that we had them. There certainly is division among Ledgies in terms of which band member they most support, but I wouldn't go so far as to call them cliques. And Dissention? Is certainly not a leader. He stands on his own in his efforts to generally piss off (and crack up) everyone else.

Just my thoughts.

OR,maybe =beacause they think it would be fun?

why would it be fun, Hawkeye? Perhaps you hope to make it pretty far, so you'd get an ego boost out of it? Perhaps you're looking for an opportunity to bestow lots of compliments on your friends, and make them feel good? Perhaps you're even looking for an opportunity to express negativity towards others, and make it clear to them how you value them less than your friends? If it's not one of these, then what is it that makes you so desperately want to play this game? I'd honestly like to know.

I'm not sure why you seem to have so much invested in doing this but it's very unhealthy, IMHO. My respect for anyone who particpated would plummet, not that that's a deterrent to many folks, lol.

DrummerDeanna

I agree with Nancy - I can't imagine someone wanting to participate in a Ledgie survivor - and as has been stated it's the LAST thing this board needs right now.

I notice that pretty much none of the 10 people who have said yes have posted anything - you may easily get 12 votes - but remember -folks who don't post but are registered (and lurking) or trolls - or whatever can vote...

Baaaaaad idea. Very. bad. idea.

Hawkeye, I think it's a fun idea. Defending eachother or voting eachother out with subjective reasons makes it fun to play, and can make some great discussion. I was number 11 to vote yes so, you need only one more. Let all those oversensible ledgies think what they want. Because 75-80 percent think it's not a good idea, does not mean you shouldn't do it, like Johnny Stew wants you to believe. If 20% of this board wants it, it's completely valid to do so. H*ll, even if it was 5 percent.

I just got really excited when I saw a Stevie photo in someone's sig. I think it was Kimberly/CreepingDeath. She has a photo of Stevie taken by Jim Welander, & Jim Welander is, as you know (or maybe you don't), the greatest photographer of concert Stevie in this, our life.

JIM, WHERE ARE YOU??!! PLEASE COME BACK TO THE LAND OF THE INTERNET LIVING!! PLEASE SELL YOUR PHOTOS OR POST THEM FOR ALL TO SEE & IDOLIZE!!

I bow down, my nose scraping along the ground, before the Camera God Jim Welander.

How about a compromise?

Those who say "yes," that they want to play, are the only contestants, and you can all vote each other off.

My vote is NO.

As I said in other thread, at least it will be interesting to see who is lame enough to want to participate (no offense, Hawkeye, I know you are intelligent, I still hold out hope that you will see the light! Resist the lameness, my friend! Stop now and maintain your dignity!)

I can see them all now. "Oh like my friend is so cool and smart, I love reading her posts, I always agree, she is such an asset for the Ledge, she makes my day bright - [insert name here] is boring, and likes stupid songs, and annoys me, and even if I did like her she is just so much less cool tham my awesome friend!" :xoxo: :blob2: :xoxo:

I can see this going sour too, either that or becoming unbearably fawning. Probably the latter, admittedly, unless someone is acting out a vendetta. But I shudder to think of all the kissy face smileys that will be employed in such a project. I think I shall again proceed to gag.

why would it be fun, Hawkeye?

Well if I ran it, I wouldnt even be playing or voting so no ego boost there. And what friends are you talking about. I dont think I have any friends OR enemies on The Ledge. Everyones pretty much about equal. I just want to do it to see what happens. And you guys are really just being way too overeactive with this. The only way I think it would be bad is if in the first round everyone voted for the same person. Things CAN'T get more volatile then they already are and they arent that bad. Dude - Ledgie trivia - who said what, who likes what, who would want what. I love trivia, and I love people's personalities, and it seems like a fair one. Like (easy one) "Who loves OSOTM more than anyone?" and stuff like that. "who thinks That Made Me Stronger is *insert quote here*" and like that. That could be fun, and it wouldn't hurt anyone, and it is oh, so trivial! but MacLedge Trivial!
For instance "Who wishes Stevie would sing 'Sweet Betsy From Pike?'"
etc.

IE: "Which Ledgie cites Ewan MacGregor as his favorite actor?"
Ans: Moony

Keep the questions light and fun and nobody gets hurt. ;)

I also like David's idea for "What's The Weirdest Thing A Ledgie Has Ever Done?"
Whoever runs it, could have Ledgies PM or email them, with their responses to that question. Then it could be a multiple choice.

"Which Ledgie sat on an egg as a 5-year old, hoping to hatch it?"
A. chiliD
B. jwd
C. Johnny Stew

After someone answers it correctly, we'd go on to the next multiple choice question.

Ledgie Trivia sounds fun actually.

(For the record, the answer is "C." :o )

  five year old johnny stew is so cute right now!
But yeah, I think that would be fun. But who, and how, would run it? You really would need a wealth of information. I'm thinking that you'd need quite a few ledgies, new and old, to do that thing. And then, some who thought of questions in some rounds, couldn't answer, and stuff. A good way, maybe, would be if everyone submitted questions, and then someone went through them to weed out multiples, and such. But then, how would we work the part where, if it was about someone, they couldn't answer? I'm thinking, if someone doesn't answer, it might be obvious it was them, and all that. Or we could take turns, in some way...I dunno. Maybe some super virgo could work out the logistics? It does sound fun, though. (she says as if she wasn't the one who thought of it. ) I don't like the whole PM thing, it would be funner out in the open.

I have only been a Ledgie for about six months, but have been active for several years in other online communities and let me just say this:

It makes no difference what brings all of us together, there's always going to be people who disagree with each other and who flat out dislike each other. This is true of any board or mailing list. I've seen some of the worst online fighting between members of pet discussion groups - the worst being a hermit crab lovers list that I used to belong to.

Opening up a thread like "Ledgie Survivor" is just asking for trouble. It provides an outlet for those with vendettas and grudges to to say nasty things about others under the guise of "it's just a game."

Furthermore, the internet allows for people to say things they might not say in a face to face situation. Sometimes this is very good, but in a situation like this, it's potentially very, very bad. On an online forum such as this, participants don't have to see the reactions of the other members. They don't see any anger or tears their words might cause and likewise they are essentially immune to any real reprocussions for those words.

On another note, the internet also creates a much greater potential for misunderstanding than does a face to face situation. Comments made in jest or sarcasm on The Ledge do not have the benefit of inflection and facial expressions to convey that meaning and can easily be mistaken as truth. Thus feelings can be hurt and fights erupt when the actual intention was good.

Hawkeye, I'm not really familiar with you, and I'm hoping your intentions are good, but the overwhelming response to your poll has been "No." Surely you should take this into consideration and rethink the wisdom of starting such a thread. Even in this thread, we've seen a taste of the trouble that is brewing under the surface, just waiting for an opportunity, like Ledgie Survivor, to erupt.

I agree that there shouldn't be a Ledgie Survivor. If you guys couldn't handle a joke, you sure couldn't handle the real thing.

Little Cricket, I don't have a lot of anger. When I explained that my post was a joke, the not-so-nice responses continued and continued and continued. I explained that I am not that mean. I am not mean at all. I have not started one fight on this board. Not one. I'm not sure I've participated in one (till now). I didn't start that one. I explained it was a joke and then felt the need to defend myself. I would never post something against someone unless that person was aware it was a joke. I never have. I don't have hostility towards the Random Thoughts thread, like you said. If you go back and read my post, there wasn't one hostile thing in it. Just the facts. I can't be angry about insensitivity. The topic came up and I was backing Lux up with my own experience.

Trackaghost, I'm not in a clique. I don't know what you're talking about. I chat with maybe 2 or 3 people on this board and they don't really chat much with each other. So, I'm confused. I think that's it.

I don't like the whole PM thing, it would be funner out in the open.I just mentioned PMs in relation to the "What's The Weirdest Thing" game. You'd need one person to run that, armed with these little weird factoids that only they and the Ledgie in question know. But the game itself would be played on the boards.

For the general Ledgie trivia game... well, I'm not sure how one would go about running that one. And I'm too tired to try and figure it out!

Oh, man. I'm trying to keep people from getting hurt, but I'm the childish one. Fine. I give up trying to make you see what's wrong with this game. I guess you were never one of the ones who got made fun of in high school, but some of us were, and I don't want to retun to that mentality. If you do, well, I have to say it surprises me.

P.S. I do hold out the hope that, if this does continue, people will at least be ashamed to act like jerks after reading this thread, and so all we'll see is the sycophantic stuff. While lame, at least it's not hurtful.

Oh nancy, I hear what you say and I understand your position but I just want to ventilate another side of the coin. It's just that it does NOT have to be a game where people get hurt if you play it with the right mindset. It's just a reaction from me on the fact that you said " oh Look at me the most popular guy/girl on the board-gag."

That's not my way of looking at it and I think that is OK.
Same thing for your look at it and your concern for people getting hurt.

PS: I WAS made fun of in highschool. But it strengthened me. Like it hurt me too.I spent many years hurt from the way I was treated in high school, but eventually it strengthened me as well.
But the years of crippling self-doubt and insecurities are exactly why I dislike the idea of this game. Not for myself, but for others.

You view it as a harmless lark, riffing on people's online personas. But some people haven't built up "cyber identities." It's not an act for them.
I don't know about you, but despite my use of a screenname, I'm am what I am -- online or offline.
So it's easy to say that we have tough skins and we can take it... but can we safely say that about everyone? Simply because a person volunteers for the game, it doesn't mean that the potential for them getting hurt deeply isn't there.

Is any game really worth the risk of hurting someone?

Seriously I wouldn't even read this thread but numerous folks have told you that this could backfire easily, why still go forward with it publicly? It seems that the suggestion of creating your own google group is the best of both worlds: the drama is self contained and those of us 100% convinced that it will end badly don't have to see the spillover in other threads. Perhaps your sig quote is more prohetic than you originally intended.
