And I havent seen or heard of the women's pants thing.
I do remember the boxers as shorts fad of fifteen years ago.

That's the FIRST THING I think of when I see people pop their collars. Then, of course, I think about how stupid they look. Laaaame.

It's worse when people wear, like, 3 polo shirts. All with popped collars. Gah!

I'm chatty tonight.
People like that deserve whatever **** they recieve about wearing so many shirts.

Nothing wrong with being chatty.

I used to do that when I went to a school where you had to wear collared shirts. At first, I'd tuck the collar underneath the shirt, like, roll it under. I'd get yelled at for it, then I'd pull the collar up as high as humanly possible just to spite them. I mainly did it to piss people off.

Ah the popped collar - yet another fashion trend that did not need to make a comeback...there was this dude working here who used to do that - he's since moved on - and I no longer have to look at his stupid collared shirts.

---And yes, there was a horrid trend of wearing pants backwards - I never liked that one- wasn't it started by that horrid little rap duo Cris/Cros or something??

Then there was the whole one side of the overalls un done

Um - four different colored pairs of socks...with high tops and weird taper-folded jeans :p

I realized awhile back that what was intense dislike for Napoleon Dynamite became complete, all-encompassing hatred because of the audience at the theater when I saw it. I go to a movie theater that is in a more upscale suburb, and the entire theater was filled with smarmy little teenage ****s with their collars popped. *stab*

I just think it looks so smarmy and ridiculous. It's like they're aspiring to be James Spader in Pretty in Pink or something. It's laaaaaame.

Hee. Kriss Kross and backwards pants. I missed the bus (uhhh), I missed the bus, and that is somethin' I will nevah evah do again. My brother's favorite album at the time.

 I think there's another evah in there. I used to work for Sears in the juniors' department and we got music videos every month to play there and that song was on one. Damn it would stick in my head! I didn't think anyone else knew that song!

My brother always wore his collars up, in junior high. That was a long time ago. He was a punk and he liked it that way. I think his 7th grade pic is him in a pink shirt with the collar up, a mullet, and a smirk. Exactly as it should have been in 1986!

My calves are so thin I always had to pin my pants or they wouldn't stay pegged. I forgot about the multiple socks. You had to have high tops too. WTF were we thinking? Blech.

Oh yeah, and we'd wear them with those long ass shirts with... shoulder pads! Oh the horror.

Well I was a little behind - I didn't even do the folds until the trend was nearly on the way out -and no, I never pinned them - I was a purist - just the fold lol...

If I were wearing pants right now I'd totally try and do it lol-just for nostalgia sake - I wouldn't keep them that way - but I'm wearing a skirt....:p

I used to love to peg my jeans. I was so good at it I didn't need to pin them. They would just stay that way all day.

As for the original topic, I don't really like to turn up my collar but I do every once in awhile if I'm outside for a long time and I'm trying to keep the sun off my neck.

Another one I remember from the late '80s is women pushing their white socks down to their ankles. Not pulled up or rolled down like in the 70s, but pushed down to look semi-slovenly. I always thought it looked dumb.

My little brother (he's 16) pops his collar on his polo shirts (preferable the pink ones...of course!) and it drives me insane! I always tell him to fix his shirt, like it's like that on accident. That pisses him off. It just looks so stupid.

It was HUGE in my school at the beginning of last year, but it seemed to have died out by the end of it.

aside from the not-quite-dressed air it gives a person, it also lends one a somewhat geekish appearance does it not? not the most attractive of looks, Ill concur!

I don't, but I'll try to explain. Back in the olden days (the late 80's :o ) it was not cool to have wide leg pants. Either you bought them tapered tight all the way down the leg or you pegged/folded/pinned them tight. You fold the hem of your jeans over to make them tight on your ankle. Then you start to roll them up. 2 or 3 rolls should do it. Sometimes they stay, other times you need to safety pin them. Absurd, I know. We looked like a bunch of assholes.

did you notice that boys often pinned theirs, while girls usually had "the roll"? You know, statistically more likely. It was better to just buy the guess jeans that were super, super tight on the bottom and had zippers.

If your pictures are scarier than mine, I might consider it. The worst of the lot that I have is my drivers license picture that just happened to be the day after I got my perm and my hair is HUGE- it takes up the whole frame of the picture. Not like that scary Phil Spector picture, but close...

Thanks! Although, I was more of a freaky type of person back then, rather than a hipster. All the "hip" people in the late 80's were either eclectic REM types or hair band rocker guys.

He does look cute! :) Towie, you knew how to sport the mullet! :]
You know- at the time, I didn't even realize that my hair was a mullet. Now that I look at that picture, all I can think of is David Spade from Joe Dirt.

Ewww is right! I wasn't aware that there even was a 'guys wearing girls pants' craze going on. (I live in a small town.) But if they are going to play the game, then they should use the appropriate products that go along with it. (like nair for intimate areas....)

I did see a girl riding a bike the other day with pants *literally* half way down her rear. It was not attractive.

Like, oh my Gawd! This whole thread has just given me a major flashback to highschool. Every single one of the fine fashion trends mentioned above were part of my life. I was in high school from 1983-1987. Need I say more?

The couple I didn't see mentioned.... neon shirts??? My favourite was my sort of pinkish-orange one, worn of course with a long, stright black skirt. And paisley!! I had the coolest paisley shirt - it literally hung nearly to my knees, and looked oh, so cool with a pair of stirrup pants or that same long, straight black skirt. And of course, my Madonna perm, parted on the side and covering one eye, and as many rubber black bracelets as I could physically get on my arms.

Holy crap. :o

I grew up in Texas in the mid 80s...so I dont remember too many horrors, nothing that I'm too embarrassed of anyway. I remember HyperColor shirts, those stupid slap bracelets, Nike Jordans with the pumps, and shaving symbols into your hair was "cool." I remember my friend Robbie had the Batman symbol shaved into the back of his hair. Weird.

A History of The Tower's Hair 101

In the early mid-80's, I started growing my hair out into a mullet. It was mousy brown.

When I graduated from high school, the mullet was looong and unkempt and I had used sun-in stuff to make it this nasty bronzy color (not a good idea).

In my most recent picture post, the first picture with that long mullet was the beginning of my freshman year of college.

The blond poof feathered thing was just after that- that picture was from one of my college jazz choir performances.

When I left college, I cut my mullet hair to a conservative cut to get a decent job and went back to the natural mousy brown. I let my hair grow out longer and longer and then decided to spiral perm it (I also cellophaned it this cheezy red wine color  ). That's the Kenny G picture.

During Bush the Senior's horrible reign, my car broke down and I asked my boss at the time if he would approve a payroll advance loan to fix it. He said sure, but I would have to cut my hair off. I was pissed, but I did it. After I got laid off for that job, I kept it in an early 90's gay cut ala Morrissey.

Once I got a new job, I started growing out my hair again. I let my hair grow out really, really long and left it straight this time around (a good choice, finally...). I posted a picture of me with longish hair from one of my performances in the late 90's in another thread.

At a certain point (I think in 2000 ??), I got sick of my long hair (it was about to the middle of my back) and cut it all off. Since then, I have had a variety of short styles. When I started going gray from the stress of my last job, I stopped dying it. It is now in its 60% silver gray state that you saw in Vegas.

Okay, that makes more sense now. I was loathe to believe you got a perm, but it did turn out to be the explanation for that crafty 'fro. I couldn't see that it was red, I thought it was really dark. Speaking of fros...Can you dig it?
