I don't care for them either. They rarely seem to fit in thematically and quality-wise with the rest of the material (Too Far From Texas, Every Day, Docklands, Talk To Me, etc.).

I think this line is perfect for Stevie! She's always all "we met at a party and our eyes locked across a crowded room... it was magic and we just knew." It's such a sweet, spare song. Still... I love Seven Wonders from my youth, so while not the better song, it's my favorite. That's my vote.

I love it. Great lyrics, sparse instrumentation (compared to some of the dense sludge on TISL), and a great vocal from Stevie. Sounds like she smoked a pack of cigs beforehand, but it suits the song.

Sheryl's version, though, wow. What a knockout.

I figured a lot of what you liked might be the sparse instrumentation, though.

Sesly, I like it quite a bit. :)

Add a third. It's by no means anywhere near a favorite, and I think some of the lyrics are goofy and sound particularly cliche when Stevie sings them: "I've run through rainbows and castles of candy" , and I think the middle eight is quite anti-climatic, but her vocal is outstanding and she sings the lines that seem to really hit home with a lot of passion. Yes, the music sounds dated and it sucks what her record company "forced" her to do, but it's far from putrid IMO.

I was going to say Cry Wolf as my fave unwritten song (yes, I LOVE it!).

But as I thought about it, it became too difficult to decide. Seven Wonders, Some Become Strangers, Stop Draggin', I Will Run To You, and even Unconditional Love became contenders!

Cry Wolf is the best. I loved this song from the first time I heard it. I think it is another missed opportunity for a hit single from that album. So much better than WLT...

IOL is really nice too, right up there with CW...

AOTH is wonderfully produced and great lyrics. Definitely one of the most cohesive song for her, especially considering the haze she was in at the time. One of my all time favorites of her own stuff (right behind Fireflies).

SIAB is good, but just too indulgent. The up-and-down in the chorus gets tiring. LAHGTP is a much better song, but the register is way too low (like Everyday)...

Seven Wonders - Obvious choice

Cry Wolf- This is one of the most beautiful, heart felt songs I've ever heard it my life. Nearly brings me to tears every time I hear it. I am SO happy that some people have showed love for it in this thread. I was utterly shocked when I found out so many people dislike this song.

Some Become Strangers - One of the top 3 songs on RAL and one of my favorite Stevie Nicks songs. The energy is amazing! Sometimes I play it in my car 5 times in a row! I'll admit though I do like the first half of the song is much stronger than the second half. And who doesn't love it when she says "I don't really need this in my life. Why don't we forget about it?" with that cute attitude!

Docklands - I'm not explaining myself :p

Unconditional Love - The alternate version (or demo?) blows my mind but the chorus is much weaker then the verses. I love "Don't explain, just lay back and watch the rain..."

omg how could i forget that one

what a stinker l

edit: i didnt realize you put this as your favorite song stevie didn't write. wow!

I actually love the line If you start to stumble, If you start to crack, If you're feeling humble, Don't look back...

I don't dislike the song at all. It was just that no one had mentioned it yet so I thought I would, just for fun. :)

Cry Wolf is the best. I loved this song from the first time I heard it. I think it is another missed opportunity for a hit single from that album. So much better than WLT...

I actually heard it on the radio when the record first came out. I was shocked. I guess that was before radio completely went in the toilet.

Talk to Me as well, love the bluesy Red Rocks version too, even though we disagree about Love Is

When OSOTM first came out I was not a big fan of Cry Wolf. But then one day, years later, I was listening to it and just loved it. And now I still do love it.

Not sure if it's my favorite song she didn't write, but it'd be up there as one of my favorites.

I can't stand It's Only Love. So boring and so Sherlyish. I always wished she left that off TISL and did some other song instead. Then again, I prefer the songs she did with John Shanks on that cd instead of the ones Sheryl worked on. I wished he produced the whole album. Not sure if that's a popular thought here with people, but it's my crazy ol' though. :p

I do love Maybe Love, and the Tom Petty songs. Although I don't like Stop Draggin' live anymore. It seems boring. But I always love the album version, and the old live versions of it around Bella Donna time.

I didn't even have to think about this one. Without a doubt it is Talk to Me. That rocks on the album and rocked in concert. I don't think she could handle it today...but I'm always glad to go back and listen to the bootlegs from RAL.
