As some of you may know, I held out until the day of the show to get my ticket. I had never done this before, and it was extremely stressful. Two of my girlfriends were driving from Asheville, while another friend and I were driving from Greensboro. Anyway, my Asheville friend's husband got on Ticketmaster while we were driving and landed us third row seats. We were beside ourselves!!!!
When we got there and saw where our seats actually were, Diane (best friend of 25 years) started crying- she was so excited. Just before the show started, we walked up to a security guy and just boldly asked him if we could go to the stage. He looked at our tickets, and told us to go ahead! No sneaking! No feminine wiles (not that they would work at this point, but I digress)!
We were at Stevie's feet- it was amazing. Just a few tidbits:
When she first walked out, she had the sweetest smile on her face. The crowd was really going wild, and you could tell she was really enjoying it. Every Stevie show I've been to, it seems as though it takes her a few songs to "warm up". This time, though she looked a little tired at times, she seemed to be really into it. Lots of smiles, and animated facial expressions. Rock and Roll was beyond awesome. Same with Beauty and the Beast.
Did anyone notice at the beginnning of the Edge stage walk, she seemed to recognize someone in the crowd and waved like crazy, smiling, talking, etc? That was cool. And now for the best part....I touched her hand !!!!! For the first time, EVER. When she took my hand, I figured she would just keep going and not look at me. But she didn't! She squeezed my hand and looked right at me and all I could think to say was, "Thank you Stevie!" I know, I'm an idiot- I couldn't think of anything else to say.
There was a major downside for me- if you're not interested in this kind of thing, then you can stop reading now.
Apparently, there was a woman who had spent $500 on her ticket and felt that sheshould have been in front of us. She kept trying to edge her way up to the stage, pushing, and just being really obnoxious, while loudly complaining at the cost of her ticket. We felt bad that she spent so much on her ticket, but also felt that perhaps since she did spend so much, she should have secured her place at the stage. Anyway, during Stand Back, a security guard came up to Diane and I and told us we had to move. Diane looked at the women and said, "that was really rotton of you..." and the woman said that she'd had nothing to do with it. Security was really nice and said that we didn't have to leave, just let this woman and her friends in front of us. Actually, the moving part didn't bother me at all, I still had a great view of Stevie. What DID piss me off, and continued to piss me off through the entire show, was that these women did nothing but talk (loudly) the whole time. During HAEWAFY, I could barely hear Stevie over their talking. I mean, what was the point of them getting in front of us if they weren't even interested in the show? It appeared that just BEING in the front (and taking pictures in between loud conversations) was the purpose for them- not experiencing the show. Then, two of them left for at least 30 minutes to get beer, and made sure to say LOUDLY to each other "watch our spots!!!" They must have been really into the show to leave to get beer for 30 minutes, you know?
I'm sorry to have made this into such a long rant, but the whole thing was utter bullsh*t and really messed with the whole experience. Diane kept trying to be really nice to the main woman, b/c she felt that Stevie would not have wanted fans to be fighting over being at the stage. The more we talked about it later, though- we wished we had busted some ass after the concert.
ANYWAY- I met a Ledgie at the hotel pool after the concert. Enchanted1- I don't remember your real name! It was really nice to meet you (and other fellow fans at the hotel). Stevie fans DO rick- it sucks we got wrapped up with a bunch of losers at the stage.
