For those of who who have plenty of cash & would never dream of buying generic/off brand, stop reading & keep your comments about our broke asses to yourself.
Now, friends, I am pretty frugal. I usually buy the things I need when they're on sale, I try to stock up on some items, etc. I will almost always buy generic products if available except in a few instances. Here are some:
Mac & Cheese: Kraft is the only way to go. I have had Tops (our local store), but it's not the same. Wegman's (our other store) is just horrendous.
Lotion: for my face, which is sensitive & prone to breakouts, I only use Purpose. For body I prefer Lubriderm or Curel, but Jergens has been just fine lately. I refure to use Suave, it's just horrible. I never, ever use generic, it's like water.
Body Wash: Oil of Olay or Dove sensitive skin only. Everything else makes me itch, and store brands never lather well.
Diet pop/soda/soft drinks: Pepsi, occasionally Coke. Never store brand. Tastes like crap
Paper Towels/TP: I bought some store brand PTs the other day, forgetting why I stopped. They are terrible, they rip & soak up nothing! TP - I prefer Cottonelle. :)
Foil/plastic wrap/etc.: They just don't work as well as brand name.
Shave Gel: Satin Care only - everything else makes me itch/break out. Stupid skin sensitivity.
So, how do you feel about generic/off brand items?

Pepsi owns KFC and Taco Bell, you know.
I usually don't buy generic stuff because I'm as shrewd as an Arab trader when it comes to coupons and sales at the grocery store. If I can't get it at least half off, I don't buy it.

I know. There's only so much I can do, OK? I already hate Taco Bell & haven't been to a KFC in months, so get off my back, man. I just can't live without the Pep. :sorry:
And I am SOOO about coupons. I love them. I do not shop without them. Getting good stuff cheap makes me giddy. Especially clothes.

I am a coupon/price matching WHORE. When the stores have their triple coupon weeks, I take stacks of the flyers and cut out a million of those things. I haven't had to buy toilet paper or paper towels since March because I bought so much with the triple coupons.
If there's a CD or DVD I want, or anything else, I always take a flyer from one store to a different one and have them price match it so that I get the lowest price PLUS an extra 10-15% off.

Wow - Paula - my list is almost the same as yours - except -
I don't use shave gel
I only drink Coke products.
Ok so other things I only buy brand name:
cleaning product - Scrubbing Bubble - I don't use anything else for my bathroom
laundry detergent- generic or store brands always smell awful to me
salad dressing - it's gotta be Marie's Bleu Cheese
Peanut Butter - I won't eat anything but Jif!

I've been getting screwed on the triple coupon thing lately. Tops only triples up to $.99 & every single coup I've had has been for $1 or more.
SQQQUUUUEEEE! I've never tried the CD thing - it really works? They're always on sale at Best Buy, which is miles away & I never get there. If I could grab the ad & trek the 2 miles to Media Play or Circuit City, it would be SO much easier!

MY list of things that you brought up include:
Mac & Cheese: Homemade- Call me crazy but I am a wicked "Suzie Homemaker" and when it comes to Mac and Cheese-nothing better than mine-YUM
Lotion: for my face, Estee Lauder-hey I am 47 and people think I am in my early to mid 30's so all the $$ I have spent on Estee Lauder has paid off. For body I use new stuff from Olay called QUENCH- Try it- It is Fantastic!! I also refure to use Suave, it's just horrible.
Body Wash: Neutragena Body wash or Yardley Lavender Soap
Diet pop/soda/soft drinks: On occasion Diet Pepsi or Diet Coke, and they have to be ICE COLD- Cuz Diet drinks that aren't ice cold taste like she said , "crap" and, Never store brand. Tastes like crap
Paper Towels/TP: VIVA- White and select- a -size, they work great
TP - Charmin Ultra (Double roll)
Foil/plastic wrap/etc.: Have to have Reynolds wrap (foil) Saran Wrap (plastic) and I will uise generic for wax paper...it's just waxed paper
Shave Gel: I use the body wash or the soap- Just put on lots of QUENCH when done
OTHER STUFF:
Rarely do I buy generic, not even aspirin- Call me a snob but even when I try and buy dog bones that aren't Milk Bones, and I try the store brand...they are more like crumbs than bones, all broken- No quality control in generic!!
I spend more money on groceries than I do on clothes-Sick!! :distress: :distress: :distress: :distress:

I had a bad experience with Jergens. It smelled good going on. We then went to see my father in law at the hospital, we was in the waiting room and I started smelling something atrocious. Smelled like somebody had pissed in the chair I was sitting in. On the way home still smelling it, just thought it was burned into my nosehairs. The next day put it on again, a few hours later, the same horribe smell. I then discovered it was me reeking the whole time. :o :o
Now I use Aveeno or Johnsons & Johnsons.

I agree with the other things you mentioned besides this, though I can't stand store brands of body wash. But I have a thing for Suave, which is pretty much the cheapest thing you can get besides the store brand.
Anyway, I can't stand the store brands of Ice Cream. No way.

makes sense. Um...I usually buy most things except cat food, and maybe mozzerella cheese sticks (if I get them) at Whole Foods, so, they don't really have generic. I don't really have anything against it, but for some reason I've never bought it. Actually, though, I suppose Safeway brand is the generic, and I've definitely bought that stuff. Plus, they make grapefruit soda, which is really good. I don't get it any more, but I used to love it.

No, it's nice, though. Pictures of me that were in my sig were automatically better. (It's me, that's why). Also otter pops were better. Flying cat was better. Paula's sig is better.
It's really good, though. EYNH!!!! :wavey:

I just moved in with a new roommate, an 18-year old girl. The first time I opened the cabinets in the kitchen- I was like, yep- 18-year old girl. She's obsessed with shopping at Aldi, and the only food in the kitchen was all snack food and junk from there. Generic cereal, popcorn, corn chips, cheetos, pop tarts, spray cheese, everything. Yuuuuck.
I'm picky about my cereal- I'm a name brand girl. If I'm not being good and eating Puffins, I have to have Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Captain Crunch. I tried eating some of her generic fake peanut butter Captain Crunch this morning- not grooood.
I'll eat generic mac n' cheese- I buy Kraft when it's on sale, but otherwise I'm cool with either the Dominick's or Jewel brand. They're really not bad.
I will not touch generic shampoo, soap, or lotion. I have about seven different shampoos and seven different conditioners, we realized- and they're all overly expensive. I use Oil of Olay bar soap and Oil of Olay moisturizing lotion- it's cheap-ish compared to my other shampoo and L'Occitane type stuff, but I've never liked anything more. I use Aveeno lotion.

Yuuuuck.I don't know. A lot of the 18-year-old girls I know aren't like that. They eat like that occasionally, but usually they're health nuts and must eat healthy and work out constantly even though they're rail thin. Well, I'm just basing this on the ones that I've had the misfortune of having to live with early on in college. They seemed to like all that and lots of drinking and pictures of naked men with fake gigantic cocks on their walls.

Shampoo-Pantene and NEVER any other brand...Dont give a flying donkey trot about any other brands, Deb got us hooked on it since it is very tangle free with long haired folk.
Soda-Usually root beer of any brand name (Tugs, IBC, A&W & Dad's), But give me a Barq's root-beer and see how fast I can nail yer head with the bottle/can/glass/etc...Barq's=Nasty ****!!!
Blank media-TDK, Sony, Samsung, Maxell...As long as it is Japanese manufactured I will pay extra $$$$ for quality over crap (I will say the newer silver Memorex's seems to be fine)
Mac & Cheese-F**k you!!! I would rather be beheaded by one of those current jihad-a-tard ass-pirate groups than EVER eat that barf...Hell, Ya could offer me $$$$ and/or free music to eat it and I would still turn ya down.

Same here. I'll hand the cashier an obscene stack of coupons and usually get the evil eye from them. Bitches.
One thing that I have to mention that can't be a cheap-o brand: candles.

Pepsi owns KFC and Taco Bell, you know.
And, Pizza Hut, Long John Silver's & A&W Root Beer (the fast food place...Pepsi still owns the soft drink portion of the brand).
But, that's all 5 years past-tense. PepsiCo sold off those companies to "Yum! Brands" (as a package).
The brands that ARE PepsiCo:
Gatorade
Quaker Oats
Tropicana
Frito-Lay
Rice-A-Roni
Starbucks (?!?!? That surprised me!)
SoBe
Aunt Jemima
Propel
Lipton

I'm surprised about the toilet paper comments.
Target brand toilet paper is actually pretty good; really soft, and thick enough too. (I can't believe I'm actually typing about this, LOL).
I am not ashamed to say that I buy Malt-o-Meal bagged cereal! It stays fresher that way anyway, because the bags are resealable! And it tastes fine! So there! :p Most of the other stuff I buy is name brand though; but I shop at Super Target where the prices aren't too bad.

Huh??! I live in Starbucksland and I've never heard this. I'll have to do some research... this doesn't sound right. Maybe they have some sort of partnership where Pepsi sells Starbucks coffee and ice cream in grocery stores?
